The performance by Kurt Masur is the Sergei Gortchakov orchestration. This one above is the Ravel version. The one is slavic and strives to be close to Mussorgsky who in fact was a rough-hewn and coarse composer when it came to his orchestral writing. Whereas the Ravel version, it is done by a Frenchman, it sounds Gallic and certainly has the panache and flavor of a master orchestrator (i.e. the giant Maurice Ravel).

Real Composer M. Mussorgsky. But, also, respect to M. Ravel for His Great Orchestration.

Without this masterpiece of Mussorgsky these magnificent performers play with exquisite skill and incomparable technology , the classical music world would have been very lonely and insipid , the enjoyment and pleasures of the classical music would have been less , and I would feel that the classical music is like the taste of stale beer

Probably the best performance of this that I've heard/watched. Unhurried, totally solid and stable tempos, just wow! A stunning performance of a stunning work!
