Those ginger chews are awesome. I am a retired Travel Agent and I always recommended them to my clients. A little hack for them is they will melt in a cup of hot water, that way you have hot ginger tea to drink that you could even add some honey to.

I tip my room attendant after boarding the train once they come around to introduce and check tickets. I ask very little of my room attendants so tipping up front just makes sense and ensures I don't forget on my way off the train.

The California Zephyr is great in the winter. If you go through the sierras it's great to see the snow on the redwood trees. It's beautiful.

My husband and I recently traveled from Toledo Ohio to San Francisco on Amtrack,stayed a few days ,then traveled back by train. We were told by an employee that Amtrack has one call center to make reservations in Florida which is not as well trained-they are subcontracted and do make mistakes more. Maybe that's where an agent had no idea Amtrack had a bus from Emeryville to San Francisco. Ask where they are before making important reservations

Allie and Rob...I flew from Seattle to Ontario, California for a physical for driving. I failed my exam because my best B/P was 180/160. So I was sent back home. After seeing my doctor and being able to lower my B/P, I went back to Lake City, MN to the head office. I had to retake my physical. My B/P was 118/70. I did not fly, I took the Empire Builder to Red Wing, MN. So much more relaxed going to MN.

I always take a portable charger. Also take two fans. One is hand held small; the other a good deal larger. AC works poorly on Superliners so I always feel hot. Also take a couple of safety pins as the curtains do not always close due to worn out velcro.

The lady at the Chicago lounge is the best! I needed a prescription filled. She called it in to CVS and set up a pick up for me!

For sleep, I have a Bluetooth sleep mask that I can play an audible book or white noise and block out light. I've used it on planes, trains, and hotels and love it. Because of your vlogs I want to take an Amtrack trip. I did an overnight when I was 17, but only have a few memories of that trip.

We did the coast starlight from LA to Seattle about a month ago after watching your videos and we are hooked. Can't wait for our Chicago trip next month. I love the videos you do that give destination accommodations options. ❤

I like figs and/or dates for snacks. They taste good, and they keep you regular. Trail mix and granola are good alternatives. If you're on a train with traditional dining, then the meals are big enough that you probably won't need snacks. I usually eat a light breakfast at home, and the Amtrak breakfast is a large traditional American breakfast.

Typically Amtrak service has been great however on a recent trip from Tampa Florida to Portland Maine we ran into some issues. Our room attendant was Great (shout out to Patrick!!) however on the train from Tampa to NYC our dining room service was not great(but the food was very good). In fact I heard our room attendant agreeing with another passenger that the dining room service was not good. On the train from NYC to Boston the service at the cafe car was truly awful. Disappointing because Amtrak service is usually very good. I don't know why but in each case I still left a tip LOL.

I'm taking the Zephyr in April. It's should be a cool trip. I'm going from LA to Chicago on the Southwest Chief, spend two nights in Chicago (going to Wrigley Field) and then the Zephyr back home. I love your videos because you've given so many tips. I bought a special pair of slippers which I call my Amtrak Slippers. A little more substantial than sandals, and comfortable.

Just finished our California zephyr, it was awesome. Going to plan a trip on the silver star next to see family.

I also love the movie CARS, also I can not find it now, but I had an Lighting Mcqueen car that makes sounds when pushing different botton, and if you push a different button the car will go forward and if it its a wall it would say Ouch and back up atomatically, that is my favorite toy.

When traveling alone in an Amtrak Superliner Roomette, I can place my carryon luggage sideways on the 1st step used to access the top berth. I hang my backpack on the hook if provided in the room. It can be a challenge for those determined to hoist carryons up steep steps to the 2nd level. Attendants may not be available to take them for passengers when boarding. I always carry gloves & disinfecting wipes to clean before use. I've had a few occasions when there was no water left in car reservoirs during trips, so personal cleansing wipes are a must for me. Organizational skills are necessary in tight spaces, so I stay as compact as possible in a Roomette.
