Make sure you know you need to get a timed ticket for the National ZOO (Smithsonian ZOO) before you go and as of April you also need a separate ticket (once inside the zoo) to see the newly renovated Bird House that day.

My wife and I went there for our first time last year the week after Thanksgiving. It was the perfect trip. Only thing that I didn’t get to do that I was looking forward to was go to the Library of Congress. We tried one day but it was closed for “research” and didn’t understand when we could or if we could just go in and look around. We took taxis everywhere and didn’t want to leave.

Good information. We just visited and I was blindsided by 2 things. I didn't know we'd need a timed entry pass (which is practically an online lottery) for the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. Even after getting it, we still had to wait in line a long time. It was amazing though. I also had no idea we'd need timed entry pass for the Library of Congress or the National Archives and wasn't able to get into either. We'd also planned to use the Circulator Bus, but found they really couldn't stick to their stated schedules at all, most likely due to heavy traffic. We waited 40 minutes and finally gave up. We ended up relying on Lyft, which saved us a lot of time, but added costs.

I definitely hear you on the circulator bus. I was BEAT after my second day there, and wound up standing for probably 45ish minutes after seeing the Jefferson memorial to hitch the ride back to the Smithsonian station entrance. I was literally grabbing my phone to call an uber when the bus finally appeared

Rob, we watched several of your videos in the months and weeks leading up to our trip. They were so incredibly helpful! We were able to share tips learned from you with others as well. Saved us money and time. You helped make our trip a wonderful, mostly stress free, vacation. The one thing I'll add is we bought a month pass for Capital Bikeshare. That got rid of the $1 unlock fees. We also used some of their "E bikes" which are electric assist bicycles. They were a game changer. Also, not in DC, Mount Vernon was amazing. Thank you, Rob, so much!

Excellent video Rob! One thing I did right before I came a month or so ago was watch your videos on the metro, but was overwhelmed when I landed and wound up taking a cab from Reagan to my hotel. Hindsight 20/20, and knowing now just how easy the metro was and is to use, I could have saved the $30 cab fare and just gone the metro route - but hey, you live and learn.

Great video and info this week Rob. We now have a rule for our trips. Only one planned museum visit, which allows us to really enjoy the museum experience without feeling rushed to get somewhere else.

I do have some questions about the Circulator. Are there three "legs" on the Red/Mall circulator route. Is this just one route or are there three red lines that are not connected? It appears on their Circulator brochure that they might not be connected with each other. It says "Circulator National Mall Transfer Location" in the brochure. What does that mean? Also, is there a good Circulator app? And, how do you find the Circulator stops? Many seem to be hidden?! Thanks.

Rob, we are visiting D.C. mid May and staying at the National Mall. Your videos have been A+ helpful. You have pretty much covered all the basics for getting around during the day. I was wondering if you could help give advice for in the evening. We have reservations for different restaurants and need ideas for the best way to get there. Founding Farmers D.C. and Old Ebbits Grill are two of the out of the way restaurants we are going to. What do you feel is the best transportation mode to use? Thanks

Best option is on foot, followed by Metro, and if all else fails taxi/Uber will get you there.
