Extraordinarily well presented. Devoid of that certain air of charlatanism that often accompanies this subject and without the earnest preaching that marks many science-talking-heads, the content is accessible and engaging. I'm a bit surprised at how much I enjoyed the experience, as most of the actual information was reasonably well known to me before I watched. But there are some refreshing perspectives, some invitations to think and perhaps rethink, and some simple fun with the subject that makes this a great viewing for anyone even moderately interested in the concepts of the multiverse.

@@valeriematson2557 Something can't come from nothing. Nothing is nothing. Nothing is without any possibillities of becoming something. Because if it is, it is already something, isn't it? For scientists 'spirit' isn't something. But for me it is. Scientists know that conscious is crucial for matter to be observed. So their biggest issue is to find out what consciousness really is. To them it's not observable, so they would like it not to exist, but it does exist. It has no dimentions, neighter can it be localized. Still they know it's here and everywhere we look. So what if matter exist only within consciousness? And what if consciousness is conscious about itself? Wouldn't it be more accurate, modest and thankful to say ''God must be the infinite consciousness where in everything else exists''? You tell me Valerie. Complex topics are communicated to the layman in understandable terms, and he sprinkles in a little humor to lighten up these deep subjects. He's one of my favorite authors on topics I find endlessly fascinating. Like Carl Sagan said in his 1980 book Cosmos "We are a way for the Cosmos to know itself'. This Closer to Truth series is a way to bring together all the deep topics and find out what the World's great thinkers, philosophers and scientists opinions on them are. Mystical facts are far more interesting than fiction. 'We are a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma'.

I liked how he said that there are two states of reality that are not arbitrary: everything and nothing. Because if there is less than everything, there must be a reason why. Perhaps nothingness is just one more possibility among every possibility. Where God as the “uncaused cause” means that there is nothing to cause God to be one way over another, God is everything. Because nothingness is just one possibility among many nothingness is not chosen over something but exists as one possibility out of an infinite number all existing at once.

@@bipolarbear9917 He has excellent language and communication skills and translates some deep complex thoughts to plain english like very few other scientists. The ideas do not decay as he formulates them. I'll surely have a look at his books, cause his lectures and interviews are among my favorites in the field. And Closer to Truth reminds me of Carls Sagan's Cosmos as well. I haven't thought about it that way, but it's a good link. Apart of that, good fiction is as important as good science. I agree with all of the comments in this thread about Physicist Paul Davies - he’s one of the most clear thinkers and writers in a complex and dense field. I don’t agree with all his views but he’s always compelling in the content of his ideas and his expression. One idea of his which is worth close attention is his theory of the Self-causing universe, or backwards causation as the basis to explain fine-tuning. This tracks the earlier ideas of John Archibald Wheeler’s Participatory Universe.

Why do some people keep insisting that the universe is infinite in size when it is literally impossibly for anything material to be infinite in size (since matter has dimensions and infinity is boundless)?
@joshbane7671
@joshbane7671 4 жыл бұрын
I suppose it makes sense depending on your world view. If you are a materialist and think the universe is eternal and do not believe in God, the universe could be infinite and if you accept all of those, you may have to invoke an infinite universe to make a theory of existence.
@jeffxanders3990
@jeffxanders3990 4 жыл бұрын
What if it is necessary for boundary conditions to exist in order to have true eternity? From the zero point to the perceivable cosmos represents a single zero point at the next level. As this level fills with all potential meeting all potential, then the next can begin.
@KurtGodel432
@KurtGodel432 4 жыл бұрын
Josh Bane nothing material can be infinite. Unless by infinite you define in some Xenonian terms as infinitesimally divisible, which I’m assuming isn’t what you mean. The material world is formed of composites which are subject to change and corruptions. Nothing which is composed can have infinitely many composites for the same reason the universe cannot be past-eternal, namely the amount of additions necessary in order to form an infinite composites is infinite thus rendering the present impossible. The total mass of the universe is known to be roughly around 10^50 tonnes. Anything changes that quantity, whereas nothing added to or taken away from infinity changes it’s value or scale. That isn’t the case with the universe.
@LadyFromVulcan

Yes, that's been bothering me too. In another of these videos one scientist (I don't remember which one now unfortunately) even says so, too. He thinks it's just unscientific to claim that something is infinite - because you could never prove that. And I assume that it might be mathematically possible to come up with an infinite series of numbers for example, but I don't think infinity physically exists. I hope I'll still be alive when they find out that they've made a mistake calculating the curvature of the universe. Maybe I'll always imagine our universe as some finite bubble (but a very, very big one). :) (Not in the literal sense of course. But a flat and finite universe? Sounds strange to me.)

Who is the architect ? Food for Thought 👍👍 But, questions can never end... a) If You find the most/last fundamental particle... the very next question will be..."From where this last fundamental particle came?" b) If You find God... the very next question will be..."From where God came?" c) If You say this last fundamental particle/God existed always.... the next questions will be... "Who/Which rule decided that the God is to be good/powerful/one etc. (Why not many Gods/less powerful God/evil God)" "Which rule decided that the last fundamental particle will have these properties only, which it will possess...why not some different properties?" "How can an immaterial God make something material? What is the process behind this conversion?" What is the energy source of an immaterial thing by which it can sustain? etc. etc. Therefore in spirituality/Yoga they say that we should focus on achieving Supreme Happiness (Happiness/Bliss that never goes away). Even if we find everything in the universe, ultimately we will achieve satisfaction/happiness. So, they say don't give much importance to knowledge (because questions can never end)...but give importance to the path which leads you to a state of default/supreme happiness, which once achieved never ever goes away.. God is nothing but this state. Once we achieve this state, they say, we are no different from God...then, we become God.

What if time is just perception? And all is meeting all (potential) in itself, thus giving rise to the next level of actual infinity? I think all is far simpler than we make it out to be 😊 Who got to decide? Each of us, of course 😊 The first question is how does it work, no? My question is how can we think that the zero point isn't literally everywhere and infinitely dense?... Making the observable cosmos a dream in which all potential is meeting all potential in and through, not only us, but everything in us.

Although I’m not going to divulge it here in this comment, once ‘information’s’ correct ontological identity is recognised (it’s not ‘digits’) it becomes amply apparent that none of it exists outside of our universe, presumably precisely that location where the creator of it all resides - along with his/hers/their/its means, methods & madnesses for so doing. Including whether not this creator created any other universes. So we don’t even know how or why this our own home universe exists - with us sitting here petulantly but quite justifiably curious about it - let alone any thing that may or may not be outside it’s boundaries. Just admit “We don’t know” & get on with making the world here a better place.

“Why the leap in scientific confidence that multiple universes are actually out there”. What does “out there” even mean in this context? Where is “here”? When is “now”? Before you start using sloppy language to postulate “multiple universes” ( whatever that even means) it would be important, it seems, to define what is meant by space/time, the fundamental reality of which is still very much up for debate in physics and in fact seems to necessarily have to be eliminated for relativity and quantum physics to co-exist.

Thank you for another mind-expanding video in your series; this one on "Must Multiple Universes Exist?". This series, in my opinion, is at its best when focusing on existential and primordial questions such as cosmic origins and destinies, the world's meaning and purpose, Consciousness, God and Atheism, the Multiverse, Quantum theory, and related such topics. (Of less interest to me are remote and off-beat topics such as body resurrection and mind-healing.) I rank the hypothesis and prediction of a Multiverse as one of the most stunning and far-reaching speculative theories of all time. It would be on the order of Copernican Heliocentrism, Einstein's Relativity Theory and the advent of Quantum Mechanics. If confirmed, the Multiverse makes an epic paradigm-shift in humanity's conception of the cosmic landscape, ourselves and our place in it. That the cosmos could even consist of anything close to Tegmark's four levels of Multiverse pushes the farthest frontiers of mind and scientific imagination. A Super-Multiverse? Amazing, as your video points out, how the Multiverse went from science fiction just a short years ago to wide-acceptance today as a plausible scientific extension of existing theories (Eternal-chaotic inflation, Super-string theory, and Fine-tuning and the Cosmological Constant puzzle). I look forward in the coming years to more refinements of Multiverse theory and greater collection of cosmological data to help falsify or confirm aspects of it. Thank you again for another provocative video.

Perhaps our brain capacity of comprehension is restricted to the limits of our three spatial and one temporal dimensions to envisage these Multiverses structures entirely . However the human mind is always prone to push beyond the limits of the reasonable and logical thought simply because that endevour seems to give us humans a sense of purpose and it's often how new scientific discoveries do come about !

Even if there were multiple universes, one would still need to explain the origin of the Laws governing those universes too. Un-directed random material natural processes have never been observed or experimentally demonstrated to be capable of producing any form of laws. As scientifically confirmed, non-material laws are the product of only Mind / Consciousness / Intelligence.

It's almost inevitable that the concept of multiple universes must be true. The question is how many such configurations would lead to conscious experiences? And why even have one? What's the end goal of it? I'm in no way religious, but I'm increasingly driven to the realization that all our distinct conscious experiences are somehow interwoven with each other and some larger universal consciousness or entity. This entity is anything unlike a personal god envisioned by our simple primitive minds, but something far grander and universal than we could possibly comprehend. And thus, whereas the end of an individual conscious being in this lifetime (via natural biological death) is looked upon as a loss to those that are left behind, it is still a net gain in terms of unique experience (lived through that consciousness) to the infinite consciousness out there, whatever it is.... just a thought.

It is childishly simple. All the different forms of matter, for example solid liquid and gas vibrate within a certain frequency range. Coexistent with that, around Earth for example there are six other 'octaves' of matter, referred to as planes or realms. There is ONE universe but it exists on different 'octaves' of vibration. When a person here supposedly 'dies' they simply exit the basic physical body and the mental focus becomes centred in a different frequency range that we call the Astral Realm. All planets and moons exist also in these different frequency ranges, and life is spread over these. The more advanced a life form is the easier it is for them to consciously move 'onto' a different plane. This Solar System, and in fact the whole Galaxy is teeming with life 'Dark matter' is nothing more than matter in a different 'octave', beyond the ability of our eyes to see it but being just as physical, in fact technically it is more physical as the higher vibratory matter has atoms that are closer together and vibrate faster according to the law of conservation of momentum. We know from the genuine contacts that have taken place with non-Terrestrials that Venus (for example) has a very unpleasant environment for us with higher pressure, high temperatures and acidic atmosphere, but ONLY on the basic plane. Go to the higher planes and it is unbelievably beautiful. Within the envelope of Jupiter's gas clouds is a smaller 'solid' planet with a great many inhabitants. Before some 'scientist' says this is nonsense remember that 'They' with current technology are totally incapable of detecting the billions of humans on the higher planes of Earth, where your 'dead' relatives and friends are still very much alive.

@Stefano Portoghesi According to neuroscience, the human brain works according to the principle of "equivalent" and the concept of "value" which differs from person to person and not because of the objectivity of the question. Why? I don’t know why people want to impose their conditions on God. Were you not able to impose your conditions on your friend, and if you could not impose your conditions on the prime minister, why would you want to impose your conditions on the Lord?

@Stefano Portoghesi from what I hear, there is no chance we can ever test multivers - it's kind of an axiom; so, does it make any sens to push in a direction that no matter how many layers of solid build abstractions you build, you can never test it's connection to reality?

@Stefano Portoghesi According to neuroscience, the human brain is subject to the principle of equivalence and the concept of value. My father differs from person to person and not to the objectivity of the question. Why? In addition, the word "absurd" is linked in the subconscious to the word "faith in God". This was a good attempt to convince yourself to get rid of your objectivity in dealing seriously.

Stefano Portoghesi implausible assumption about the afterlife? So you know this? It was an implausible assumption that the multiverse was real when Star Trek proposed it, Or when Philip K Dick wrote his first novel on alternate realities. I think you might want to be careful on what you consider implausible considering that even science is starting to discover that some of the best thinkers, ESP researchers and intuitives may have been right all along, as the multiverse may just prove... Or it won’t. Either way, implausible is not a word I’d use to define what might actually be true.
