Collected a bunch of hickories this year and have been watching various videos on how to best crack them while I wait for them to dry. This is by far the most useful one I've found on KZfaq and also the most succinct. Thank you, Karen.

I’ve heard they are even harder to get the longer you let them dry.

@@WontSeeReplies if I can’t get to them after a couple of months I put them in the freezer as they will keep whole or cracked for years and taste the same. I don’t know about harder to pick out if they get too dry. The flavor is compromised after several months! Thanks for commenting!😊

Loved your comment! I just freeze them as they say they stay good up to 10 years! I have never kept them that long! I like jars or ice cream buckets better than plastic bags! I put them in white cake mix, love them in apple salad, but by the handfuls is BEST! 😂

How lomg can Hickory Nuts last in their shells? after they are harvested?

They will keep and taste same for years when you crack them if you freeze them after a few months! 😊
