Free League is knocking it out the park as of late I'm tempted by Dragonbane cause I have a wee soft spot for Johans artwork love that Grimm fairytale aesthetic.

I love Dragonbane, I've been running it for a few months now and it is a joy for GMs. The whole system plays really smooth and the mechanics get out of your way so you can focus on the story and the mirth and mayhem :)

Currently reading thru it now so I can play it solo soon. So far seems pretty easy to pick up. I’m enjoying what I’m reading. Now I’m definitely curious about Mork Borg & others under Free League.

I'll be curious to see if you like Dragonbane. Free League has become an outstanding RPG publisher; maybe the best out there. This is the first iteration of the game called Dragonbane. It is actually a modern version of Drakar och Demoner (Dragons and Demons), a decades old, very popular Swedish RPG based on Chaosium's Runequest rules. What is interesting here is that this is actually a d100 game and not a d20. They've simply divided the skill roles by 5 to allow you to roll a d20 to resolve conflicts. Very clever. I love Dragonbane and I really hope this game catches on (keeping the ducks was a gamble tho). Hopefully the wider d100 game-verse will get some looks. Free league is awesome. Johan Egerkrans is an amazing artist who fires up the imagination. I'm really rooting for Dragonbane.

So far I’m loving dragonbane. It has a brief introduction in the rules book about it being a modern version of a Swedish RPG which I thought was cool. The box set alone is a really fantastic box set on top of including solo rules. I actually enjoy D100 systems.

D20 was introduced as an option in the Expert rules expansion from 1985. I think it was made core in the 1991 edition, but I'm not entierly sure. This new edition seems to follow the previous trend of making the game more Dungeons & Dragons like and less Runequest like. Which makes me a bit sad I didn't get a chance to pick up the retro reprint edition that got discontinued once the publisher switched to Fria Ligan.

@@PainocusYes you are right the 91 rules were fully d20. After a quick read in the recent Drakar och Demoner rules, which is the same product as Dragonbane but in original language I can tell that it clearly was like a mix of Expert and 91 with a lot of tables and stats removed and well modernised to look and work a bit like most other free league games. It looked like a good game for kids and adults that just want a fun and easy fantasy game.

I love it that it comes with adventures, standee minis and solo rules/adventures as well! Not yet convinced by the rules though they sure have neat ideas. And the different random monster attacks is an amazing feature!

The box set is an awesome buy. If you’re not feeling the rule systems, it still comes with so much to create your own adventures & pull inspiration from.

I have more than enough ttrpg books, but I haven't owned a boxed set before. Until today. I placed an order for a boxed set of The One Ring. Can't wait for it to get here! I picked up the a quickstart book for Dragonbane on Free RPG Day and like what I saw. This video makes me want to play more!

That box is a beauty! Unfortunately it kind of takes the Core Book to really get playing. But that box makes me want to run a game just in Hobbiton 😁

Lol I have started quite a collection of TTRPG’s. I see how easy it is to do. I’ve been very curious about one ring. I have it in my cart. Let me know what you think about it. I’m enjoying Dragonbane. The box set comes with so much you can use for other TTRPG campaigns|one shots.

@@LegendsDiceCafe Yeah. I got a bit to hooked to Free League's games 😅 I've played Forbidden Lands and Coriolis but none of the others yet. The One Ring is really interesting but one of the games I'm not 100% convinced I would actually really enjoy playing. The skill system especially might come in the way. It's not bad by any means but I've seen that the game can get stuck in a "which skill can I use to solve this" type of rut. On the positive, the materials are beautiful as Free League tends to have them, there's a ton of Tolkien flavor throughout, there's an interesting gamification of elements such as journeys, councils and fellowship phase (=downtime). The core mechanic seems cool.

This is a game I've been pondering picking up, the main reason I've left it on the shelf so far is that I'm not hugely fond of the ducks, I can't help but be reminded of howard the duck, which makes me frown. Which I know is a bit petty, but sometimes there are just things that grind at ya. But other then that it looks like a really interesting system. Another wonderful walk through! Thank you. Really good of them to include the solo rules, this seems to be a growing norm in new systems, and I love it. You might be interested in taking a look at a quirky system like Masks (A superhero game based on powered by the apocalypse) or Traveller or mothership (sci fi games)

I actually just found Masks at a library 📚. I’m waiting for it to get sent to the liberty closer to me. If I like I, I will most definitely purchase it. It looks pretty cool.

@@LegendsDiceCafe I haven't tried solo rules for many multi-player games, but I did grab the digital version of "Strider Mode" and am curious to try it. Also grabbed a digital copy of the solo rules for Vaesen (which was being given away for free recently). And I just got my backer package for the Cloud Empress Kickstarter, which included a pamphlet for solo mode.

Nice video review; gave me a good sense of what the core set has in it. Got the quickstarter guide coming. At present Free League seem to be producing so many excellent RPGs. Looks like I'll be splashing some cash on this in the new year. Regards from the UK.
