You made a lot of valid points.. I myself am a larger fellow and need a larger boat/kayak to allow for myself and gear. I frequently spend time on my local rivers and streams tubing, floating, and camping and have been wanting a kayak for some time. But I also am an avid fisherman and would like something I could use on the lake as well. I recently stumbled across the smaller sized skiffs witch you can stand on, paddle, and even mount a trolling motor or small outboard engine on. and the price difference is acceptable for me so that I can get more use out of it..Thanks for the video..

Cool video Ethan...I use to float tube fish with the fish cat 4, but after hurricane Katrina I've found alligators have started to show up in areas that haven't had them in over a 100 years.....so float tube fishing is cheaper and you can deflate and fold the tube for storage. A total set-up float tube fishing is under a $800.00 and very fun

Hi, I live in Switzerland but my kayak is in Croatia^. I'm not a river and lake guy...i need the open sea but i only can go a few times a year but then...I'll go every day :) After I bought my Feelfree Lure 11.5...I had the same thoughts like you...it's huge and i don't have enough space but I was lucky that it fit in my appartment. The other thing is...that's it quite hard to paddle with all the equiptment..so I'm thinking about a trolling motor but that's also a big purchase for a few days on the sea.

Good video, great sense of humor. I think you really get a lot for the money with fishing kayaks, there’s a wide range of options, and ,!if you want to get out on the water, when compared to the other main option, which would be a bass boat for $20,000 and up, its really a pretty frugal purchase. Hey Joe! So glad this video helped you out 🤠 I post three videos / week with several kayak videos in the mix so stay tuned! Regarding a $500 rig, I would personally try to target a used kayak and see if you can get your hands on a Wilderness Systems Tarpon for a good deal or a Perception Pescador if that doesn’t work out. If not those, a used Vibe could potentially be near that price range as well. Let me know if I can help further!!

That wasn't the intention - my bad! I just wanted to make sure everyone thinks through those things before going out and buying. I certainly recommend getting into it - kayak fishing is incredibly fun! As far as my kayak goes, it is very comfortable, easy to stand in, spacious so I can fit tons of gear in it, and so much more. I explained the main cons of the kayak, but overall this kayak provides a ton of good times on the water. Any other specific questions I would be happy to answer! Thanks for watching!

Ethan , thanks for replying. I guess I left out the pros of the kayak too. I learned a lot from your videos. I am looking for a good sit on top fishing kayak now. I have run across a couple sit in kayaks that have been modded for fishing but the owners are selling because they are hard to fish out of. So I am saving for a fishing kayak. I have reelfoot lake, several water sheds and ponds around to use one. Planning a trip soon to the current river to do some fly fishing soon I hope.

Really great questions Ethan. I'm sure many people wished they asked themselves those questions b4 buying. A couple of thoughts - why put up a 74 lbs kayak on top of your car when you can put a 60 lbs kayak on top of your car (by taking out the chair and the central console)? I'm recommending the Vibe 110 to a friend of mine who's considering the Lure. Having a rudder can be very useful...

Just join up to your channel. Love to hear about the features of your feel free lure 11.5. I am going to be getting one in January. Want to know how you think I should set it up. I fish for large cat fish ( shovel and blue ) in the Ohio river and strippers too. I also fish bass in East Fork Lake ( large mouth hybrid stripper and white bass ) I also fish large creeks depth is not an issue they are pretty deep. I want to put a depth finder and run two GoPros on the kayak and a head mount, but don't really know what I am doing with that. I do know that I want a landing Camara and a Camara facing me so I can talk about what I am doing. If you have any suggestions it would be great. Keep up the good work on the vids and hope to see you on my channel when I get it up and going. Tight lines brother.
@FishAnything
@FishAnything 6 жыл бұрын
Great questions - I will try to incorporate this as a video in my channel at some point in the near future! Until then, I believe you will absolutely love the FeelFree Lure 11.5 for those types of fishing! First thing you will want is to make an anchor trolley system which is very simple - lots of videos and articles about it online. Next, some kind of milk crate or box in the back for all of your gear. Finally, for filming, you could either get a suction cup or a jaws mount for the front GoPro. Then, like you said, a headcam and a bracketed mount on a landing net would be awesome angles. Happy to help with further questions, just let me know!

If your fishing a river or steam a good tip is to fish upstream as far as you like then float and fish your way back to where you parked your car. You should attach a strap to the front of your boat because you may need to get out and walk your way up though the riffles and runs. Also I've looked at this boat you have one of my concerns is that the back support is to low as compared to other kayak brands. For a guy as tall as you seem I think this would be an issue.
@FishAnything
@FishAnything 6 жыл бұрын
Good Tip! I have done that before and honestly paddling upstream is a real pain in the rear unless you have a smaller kayak that cuts through the water quicker. Not bad in gentle currents though... As far as the seat goes, I haven't had issues with it, in fact I actually love it. Yes it could be a bit taller but frankly I am always comfortable on the water!

Comparing your kayak to an ocean trident. Would love to hear some of your thoughts about the features of yours
@FishAnything
@FishAnything 7 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, I have never sat in a Trident but visually, they look pretty similar. They are both large fishing kayaks (70+ lbs) and comfortable rides. What I can see for differences are the following: 1. FeelFree seems to sit up a bit higher and has less of a keel so it is likely slower than the Trident 2. FeelFree has a nicer seat (comfort is crucial on the water) 3. FeelFree would likely be more stable Overall, it just depends on what you want to use it for. The Trident would likely be faster and track better, however the FeelFree would likely be better for standing/all day comfort. Let me know if you have any more questions! More Kayak Vids to come!

Hey Ethan. Nice vid. Looking to purchase same model at end of March. Is that an anchor trolley that you rigged up? No drilling? Looks like you used bungies. I'm about 275lbs. Will the 11.5 be ok for my weight? I know the capacity is 400+ but I'm concerned my weight will make it ride low in the water. Thx!!!

Analog, thanks for watching! I would say the 11.5 should be fine for you but you might consider a test ride - does anywhere in your area carry this particular model or similar kayaks you could sit in and test on water before purchasing? Thanks for the video. I am 53 and not as athletic now, but still hunt and fish, so weight and stability of a kayak is a big issue. I have been reading and shopping for a one person pontoon or a fishing kayak. I am not sure which may or may not serve me well. I plan on only fishing ponds and small lakes. Standing up is an issue because I would want to reduce sun reflection and stretch. What are your thoughts?
@FishAnything
@FishAnything 7 жыл бұрын
First off, thanks for watching! Depending on your price range, I would opt for a bigger, wider kayak. I can stand just fine in my FeelFree and I am 6'5 so that speaks to the stability. Honestly, a pedal drive yak would be the best option because you can fish so much easier in them but they are very costly. Let me know what other questions you may have and I will be sure to answer to the best of my ability! Thanks again.

I've been looking at the 9' one's and there look like there's a few nice ones such as Brooklyn Kayak Company's FK184. Right now this one costs $577.00 and it weighs 44 lbs. I'm five six and no miniature Hercules. I also live in a small apartment and don't own a vehicle; crazy, huh? But I have fairly close access to water where I could launch it. I thought about getting a kayak cart, one that was collapsible so I could carry it with me in the boat. Would 9' be a sensible size? I live in a town in Maryland, Elkton, that's just above where the Elk River starts. This River is about 14 miles long and empties into the Chesapeake Bay. I'd love to have a yak to fish from but I also want to be safe. Sorry to be so long winded.
@FishAnything
@FishAnything 6 жыл бұрын
Hmm very good questions.. because you don’t have a car, I’d for sure get a light kayak like the one you’re looking at. Because of your height, I think 9’ should be fine but wouldn’t hesitate to get a 10’ kayak if you want more space for gear. Definitely like the idea of a cart regardless so you can transport easily. Let me know what follow up questions you have!

Too late, I bought one:) Fortunately, I did manage to think through a few of your points. I purchased a 9ft that weighs in at 44lbs. Its been in my office, on the floor for 2wks-Lol I was sure I had transport figured out-crossbars+Jhooks- until I purchase crossbars that are about 3" wide. Now, issues with finding a Jhook that spans the 3". For now and my maiden voyage, she's in the back of my van. So, no scratches, no heaving or standing on tip toes at 5'2" to get this puppy on my Rav4 roof. Tight lines-

Glad you got one! I love my kayaks (I’ve bought more since this video) and would recommend the sport to anyone! Good luck finding the J-Hooks that fit your cross bars! Otherwise, you might be able to just lay it flat and use ratchet straps?

What is the likelihood that one can flip? Lakes around me that I'd like to fish at, are nice, but also pretty big and wide open. So wakes from boats will be hitting me. Is it safe to go out in this or any kayak on bigger and deeper lakes? Want peoples opinions. Trying to decide what to do. Thanks!
@FishAnything
@FishAnything 6 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for watching! Some kayaks are more prone to flipping but I would say the Feelfree Lure 11.5 and other similar fishing kayaks are very stable and shouldn't give you any issues. I generally do not fish in areas with a lot of boat traffic but I have fished incredibly deep waters and I am never nervous. Some precautionary measures you could take to keep yourself safe on the water are as follows: 1. Get a bright kayak that is easy to see 2. Wear a life jacket 3. Get a tall, bright flag that boaters can see from a distance Let me know if you have any further questions!

First off, thanks for watching! Secondly, I believe it would work just fine! It sits high in the water, and is built for larger people. However, I would recommend going to a dealer and testing it out before purchasing. That way, you know it is the kayak for you! There are a lot of great kayaks on the market - make sure you get one you love.

Instead of the cloth to load your yak run a rope through a pool noodle and tie it around the hinge of the back hatch. it works great.

I fish for bass a lot and am really interested in buying a fishing kayak. I've only kayaked 3 times in my life and never used one for fishing. What fishing kayak would you recommend for around $300-$450
@FishAnything
@FishAnything 7 жыл бұрын
Mike, please refer to my latest video which is a $400 kayak - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fs6Wqdeint3FaX0.html There are a lot of options like this, but a couple other things to consider would be... 1. How big are you? Get a kayak you are comfortable in. 2. What types of water will you be fishing? If lakes, you will want something more stable. If rivers, you will want something that tracks better. Etc. Let me know if you have any more questions, I will be happy to help!

Trust me, I am scrawny... With that said, yes, 75 lbs is nothing, but when it is 11.5 feet long and almost 3 feet wide, it is a bit awkward to lift over your head. Maybe I need to start a weight class where we lift awkward objects rather than weights haha

So if any one is going to buy a kayak the 1st thing to look in to is how comfortable it will be. If its not comfortable for get everything else. Knowing what i know now i would be happy spending $2000 on a comfortable kayak i only use 5 time a year.

Hope I'm not too late. I have the ascend 12t . Love the design but the plastic is weak , it flexes when you stand, hull will warp (took a month for mine to warp ) and it's a soft plastic so if you beach it even somewhat gently it will gouge . I sound bitter but it has done the trick until I could afford a better yak . Just picked up the old town topwater 120 , so much happier with it

As I went kayaking yesterday and it was more successful than my last outing I am considering buying a bigger kayak all things being considered transportation is definitely an issue probably one of the biggest I don't want to have to end up buying a a real boat because I want to avoid having to tow trailer There are self loading roof racks wish I could get but already purchased tie down roof racks I have been a little reluctant to buy them knowing that that would make the previous purchase roof racks redundant
