In today’s video, I answer the questions you’ve been asking me about moving to the UK, especially from India to try and make your move to the UK easier and stress free.
I moved from India to the UK 6 months ago with my family and dogs and it’s been challenging to say the least. Since we moved to England, we’ve had our fair share of challenges. Some expected, some not.

Hi Ashika. Your videos are really crisp and to the point. And your presentation style is also very calm and gentle. Pls continue with your wonderful efforts. I have a question. I will be moving to the UK in the month of November. And while looking for rented house from India I saw that they want income proof, references, tax returns, etc. It won't be at least a month before I will be getting my paycheck. Can you please give advice about getting rented accommodation for a person coming to the UK for the first time.

Would you suggest moving to the UK for long term and start a family? Considering it is very costly due to high taxes, low wages and have uneven political situation.

Hi Pratik. You are right about the taxes. The UK has one of the highest taxes. That being said, you get free healthcare, schooling among other things. The wages aren't necessarily low. It depends on the role you have in mind. On the plus side, the weather is moderate. It isn't extremely cold like many parts of Europe. Everyone speaks English, the quality of education is quite good and it has a good work life balance. Unless you're considering Switzerland, the political situation in any place will remain unpredictable. So yes, I do suggest the UK.

Thank you for yet another informative video. On the point of banks in India, they do not automatically change to NRI status. I wanted to ask you about keeping the Indian number active. Do you pay extra for international roaming or the number is active and you get sms without any struggle.?

Hi Charles, are you sure about that? My CA told me they would for sure. On the sim, I’ve taken a roaming pack for which I pay a just Rs 149 apart from the regular bill which allows me to keep the number active all the time.

@@AbsolutelyAshika with my banking experience in Retail banking, bank won't be able to make changes by themselves. Relavent documents needs to be given. And there are two types of accounts. NRE and NRI. NRE only overseas funds can be credited. No tax NRI both local credits and overseas funds are allowed. Thank you for the information about SIM. May I know which service provider you are using.

Hi Malcom. Precious metals, including gold, are not listed as banned or restricted. As long as the gold is a gift, or under your personal ownership, there should be no issues with bringing it in. As a precaution you can declare your gold. Customs officials will assist with any questions, and determine whether you are required to pay any duties or taxes. For further information, please refer to the official customs site: www.gov.uk/duty-free-goods/declaring-good

Hi Smitha, you can bring your sim along if you have Indian bank accounts operational as that’s where you’ll get your otps. Activate international roaming and switch off data when you get here.
