Mustang 3.7 V6: Borla ATAK+Shorty Headers+H-Pipe+Cat Delete+Resonators Comparison (Short Version)

This video was taken out of a much longer video covering the same topic. I thought this might be interesting to some people on it's own so I extracted it.

The aim of this video is to showcase the difference in exhaust sound that the various components such as headers, cat delete and resonators make on a 2011 3.7 V6 Mustang.
The video is split into sections starting with stock exhaust all the way to full exhaust. Each section is comprised of the following sound clips: Cold start, Revs, Take Off, Fly By, Ghost Cam.
When I bought the car it came with some unknown aftermaket mufflers which were really quiet so I'm assuming they are pretty close to stock.
Shorty Headers are BBK, H-pipe is a 11-14 GT stock take off, cat delete was custom made by a muffler shop, resonators are 25" bottle style ones.

Alex Hellenbach when you say H-pipe you mean the stock one? When it doesnt say h-pipe it had an X or just a different H pipe? Would you say headers affects the idle more? Kinda want a louder idle without a louder rev necessarily. Just have borla the middle volume one not the atak, axle back. Avoiding new headers since want to avoid getting a new tune.

Awesome vid. I have cat delete / x pipe / muffler delete and it's so obnoxiously loud. Now I realize I have to have at least mufflers for it to be not too crazy loud but not too quiet at the same time. Thanks

Thanks! Yup, you might as well have no exhaust at this point 🤣 GT500 mufflers should do a good job (it's still going to be ridiculously loud and raspy though as long as you don't have cats.

Exactly! I thought that the Borla with headers had best balance of sound. They were louder and deeper without sounding harsh, raspy or too loud and annoying.

Not sure if you still around but I started to develop a weird exhaust noise with atak, h pipe, and headers only at 800 rpm so first I'm going to add some resonators and if that doesn't resolve I'm gonna go back to X pipe.

I have a 2016 v6 mustang with flow fx flow master cold air intake I was wondering where to get a ghost cam for my car and some headers I looked on American muscle but not the type of headers I’m looking for but the ghost cam I’m trying to look for and can’t find anywhere

Hey Matthew, hit up the guys at AMR (Auto Mafia Racing) and they will get you sorted regarding both Ghost Cam tune and headers. You can also check out other vendors regarding headers such as LMR, CJ Ponys, Steeda, etc. or look on Ebay.

Yup, Roush and Borla are as close as it gets sound wise, the rest doesn't make that much of a difference.

Borla + headers + H pipe is best, yeah. Catted keeps the BS down. Seems like for V6s the H pipe vs X pipe is a similar story. Though it'll sound even deeper/louder if you go without a crossover. There's one guy on here with BBK shorties and straight-pipe divorced duals and that car sounds like rolling fucking thunder. It's great! 1:06 instant replay of one of the top 5 best 3.7 mustang sounds

Hi, I'm running removable fender flares in the back with spacers for testing to see whether or not I like it. With that said the current setup is 18x9.5 ET40 with a 40mm spacer. That width (minus the spacer) equals roughly what my new wheel setup is going to be which is 19x11 ET 15.

@@juanzapata5726 Upper yes, lower no. But you need the lower ones turned off via tune or buy defaulers to trick the uppers into thinking you still have the lowers.

Hi Mike, STC Performance resonators. I believe they were 22" (the largest ones I could find). I welded them in after the mid pipe onto the over axle pipes.

@@Wooooooooo000 Hi, it's a 2011 but I swapped a supercharged 2012 5.0 into the car since. I didn't get a CEL cause I didn't have the off road setup for long enough to trigger one. Yes, the car was tuned by MPT. You will need to get the lower O2 sensors disabled via tune (MPT won't do that if you're from the USA) or you'll need to buy defoulers to avoid a CEL.

I used 22" resonators I believe. Don't remember the manufacturer but it was a EU company that makes them. They are the same design as the Glasspacks or SLP resonators (they're all pretty much the same, only thing that differs is size and length which affects what frequencies they will cancel out).

Ghost cam doesn't have anything to do with cats. Supposedly not the healthiest thing to run it with cats but I haven't heard of anyone having actual issues when running them with cats.

It's really intended for driving, morr for show whilst park. You can drive it and it won't hurt anything but it'll drive like crap and use up a ton of fuel.

Those are the Borla atak mufflers only, not the whole axle back kit from Borla.

Some European brand, can't remember the name right now. The brand doesn't really matter, they all look and function the same. It's the shape and length that changes the sound.

@@eduardorodriguez7689 resonators won't really do a whole lot for loudness. They will tone it down a bit but not too much. The only thing that will lower the volume extensively are cats. Resonators will shape the tone more than lower the volume.

@@eduardorodriguez7689 Well, if you want loud then stay catless. If you want more roar perhaps go with a different muffler. A resonator will tone things down, make your sound a bit deeper and perhaps less raspy. Won't do much for "roar".

Not into the raspy sound my opinion sounds ricer.....I lk the old scul sound I just stick to what I know flowmasters longtube headers cai 4.10 gears and gain tune that's all you need . If u want hp just add a procharger

I'm so glad that stop making these slow ass v6 mustangs. I had a ecboost mustang with a 93 tune and upgraded borg Warner turbo gapping all v6 cars plus some dodge boats.
