How to reset your idle settings. This video shows the procedure for a 2012 Mustang GT. It is similar for most other models.

This is in the owner's manuel and it applies to all makes of cars. Unfortunately the guy in the video only has 50% of it right. Any time your battery has been unhooked for 5+ minutes or when you replace the battery the vehicle needs to relearn the idle and fuel trim. When the engine is cold. Make make sure all accessories are turned off start the vehicle let engine idle until it reaches normal operating temperature let idle for at least 1 minute. Then turn on the a/c let vehicle idle for another minute. Then drive the vehicle for at least 10 miles. That's the correct way to do it.

Why the fck would you need to turn on AC. What if AC was deleted. What does AC have anything to do with Idle relearn?

maximus vonce the AC is parasitic to the motor. I learned I need to do this because my car would stall when I started it with the AC on.

If I turn on the heat or ac then my 2012 v6 mustang rpm goes below 500 and it wants to shut down. It revives itself, but still this happens when I turn on the heat or ac. Please help.

Yep. This needs to be done anytime you disconnect the battery. 10 miles with the AC on.

you never told anyone how to retrain the idle, you just take it for a ride. I have been driving mine for months and it still does it now and then.

I removed my throttle body to clean it and maf, then when I started it back up and drove my idle would rise up to 2000 rpm after releasing the clutch to neutral

I have a 2010 GT as well and am averaging 23mpg. And I drive it hard at times. This guy must of driven this thing like a monster or something. Lol jk. I have noticed others with lower than 20 mpg. I guess I drive sparingly. Lol

I noticed that too.i just checked my 97 gt 5 speed with 4.10 gears,tune,few other mods and I get right at 20 a gallon.i have over 300,00 miles. That's no lie,I just checked it last week. I'm sure it's a little less on interstate though.

Nope. Brand new car. Not necessary. The idle relearn process is the solution. Works like a charm.

@@chiphorn3634 car on or off any slight movement of the flaps fucks up the calipration of the throttle body resulting in buying a new one or finding a shop worthy of recalibrating it. I actually ended up doing both a throttle body cleaning followed up by an idle relearn procedure and it fixed the issue and also gave me way better throttle response on my dusty 06 gt with cold air intake and a throttle body spacer.

@@brianrivera3974 that's such bullshit dude I just cleaned mine and I opened the throttle up and when it was all said and done it was operating just fine you probably just fucked up yours somehow
