Need a new 1999-09 Mustang Keyless Entry Remote? Watch this quick walkthrough on how to program a new one.
We carry the Ford and aftermarket replacement keyless entry remotes for 1999-2009 Mustangs. It has 4 buttons that include lock, unlock, trunk, & panic. This remote only works with vehicles originally equipped with keyless entry from the factory. Will not work with vehicles equipped with factory remote start. This same process works on both New Mustangs and S197 Mustangs.
Also referred to as a Mustang key fob.

You don’t need 2 remotes for this to work. 1 is fine. It works on any mustang 99-09 regardless if you never had one before.

I second this, Thank You. Too many youtube videos will spend 30 minutes talking to you about who they are what they are gonna show us why what they are gonna shwo us willbe helpful what htey had for lunch and then the video will end and you gotta go to part 2 where they will explain alll the parts you need and why and what they had for dinner and then next to video number 3 where they will cry about how their wives left them and then finally take 30 seconds to show you what you been wanting to see.

@@latemodelrestoration2004 Ford Mustang I have lost the original key fob so I bought a new replacement key fob and I can't program it because I don't have the original key fob.. do you have to have the original key fob to program the new replacement key fob? How program replacement without the the original key fob? Can you program the new replacement key fob without having to have the original key fob?

@@strat_1880 Make sure you're performing the key sequence correctly. A new key fob will still program regardless if one is missing. There could also be the chance that the battery in the key fob is dead. -Landan

Bought a universal remote from wal mart tried all of the 9 different ways to program it and nadda. watched this video which was the first search result and had the remote working in 5 minutes. Saved me bro thank you. (btw this was NONE of the steps listed in the manual)

Works! Just did it on my 2000 GT, using a keypad from my old '99GT, thing was in a drawer since 2007 lol... Still works, just but this 2000GT a few days ago, had no keyless pad. Sweet!

My 2000 GT will not enter the programming mode. I’ve tried several time and even did it faster but it will not lock/unlock.... any help? I thought all 2000 models automatically came with this.

Worked on a 08... Mine is a manual.. I set parking brake. Opened the door. Took trans out of gear. DO NOT touch the brake or clutch.. on off 8 times.. OFF is where you can pull the key out... That part there got me as I was not going back far enough. Got to go fast too... once in program mode you can set the remotes in a second...

If the key fob is that worn, I would suggest you replace them with some new ones. Click the link in the description to pick up a new set.

You actually only need one remote. Just did mine actually. You need two keys if you've replaced a key, because of the PATS system. But you only need one keyless entry remote.

I tried this with my 2005 but it does't work. BUT for std transmision, in ordert to work this process, press the clutch and the brake like if you want to start your car and do the 8 times switching. It works perfectly on my 2005!

Thank you for mentioning that in a standard transmission I needed to hold down the clutch, I must of tried six times and it wouldn’t work until I read your comment..

Worked great, I programmed 3 on my new to me '99 GT Vert. Owner's Manual says you can program up to 4.

Why do you need two remote key-fobs? It looked like it worked fine before you tried the second remote.

There are already previous remotes that are still programmed. Even if they’re lost, the car still has them registered. That’s probably why. If there were no registered previous remotes, then you’d need two.

Great info. Just ensure the doors have been unlocked electronically. I couldn’t get it to work at first because I initially unlocked the door with the key. Looked at the manual and it said to unlock electronically and, hey, it worked. Still a well presented video. Muchas gracias! DukeMcCandles1969

I only have one remote and I've done this trick like 5 times since my battery died and i installed a new battery. After turning the key back off from pressing any button on the remote, the remote doesn't work on the car. I've programmed this remote 3 times and every time same problem. The remote button makes the doors lock and unlock while the key is still at the on position, but nothing after key is removed.

Ok, update, Dec 23rd, 2023. I have ran the FOB over the magnet and the GT cranks and starts. However, the engine sounds fuel-starved. Is there any way to run the car without the FOB? Now, if I can't run the car without the FOB I was thinking of securing a scrapyard magnet to the fob by wrapping it with some electrical tape. What do you think? Thank you for your video. I would never have gotten the GT running without you. Merry Christmas.

If you are having trouble on a 99 don’t turn the key back towards you all the way just go back and forth fast and you’ll hear and see the lock and unlocking

I have an 00 mustang by and every time I cycle the key door locks unlock every time I turn it off I have a key fob but it so worn out that the panic button is stuck down so wears the battery on the key fob quick

Hello I have a 2008 mustang and i absolutely HATE the key fob. It looks like it belongs to a car from the early 90s. The newer key fobs are so much more stylish but the dealership said they are not able to program with the 2008 mustang. Is that true and if it is through what extent do I have to go through to make the newer key fobs work? I am very committed to making this happen.

Make sure you're ending the sequence with the key in the run position. Also, check the fuse/s related to the keyless entry system. -Landan

I have tried this several times in my GT. My doors do not respond. The don't lock and unlock telling you it is time to reset the FOB. What can you advice towards this problem?

Check the batteries in the key fobs and make sure they're good. Also, check the fuse/s related to the keyless entry system. -Landan

@latemodelrestoration A bussmann 40 amp blade fuse was blown. I temporarily bypassed the circuit and all the problems were gone.

Then why point out you can do it up to four times? Can you only do four and not five or more? Also, it remembers the original key fob. Just not the others.

How could a person do this with two remotes if they don't have the original keyless entry? Seems like you gotta have the original remote to be able to program a second remote.. that kind of defeats the purpose of needing a new remote since I don't have the original.

I was told that I have to hold down the lock button the entire time while turning the ignition off and on for the 8 times? Is this correct? I didn't see you do this. Also, he only programmed one remote, the other person I saw doing this.

On this procedure, you will just do the 8 key cycles first and then hit your buttons on the fob. you do not hold this down the entire time.
