I review and demonstrate the uBursts clone of the famous Clouds module from Mutable Instruments. Clouds is a granular synthesizer, a delay, a reverb, and so much more that I don't even get to! In this video, I discuss how it can be used to make noise and experimental music in granular mode, focusing on NOT using a synthesizer as an input into Clouds.

great review, great channel. Agreed that clouds is much more interesting used on vocals or other sounds vs oscillators. I have a monsoon and have never touched the other modes, so I'd love to see a rundown of some of those. Also have the Hypnosis reissue and a HNW machine XL on the way and your vids were really helpful with both of those, so thanks

Great vocal tool. Does anyone make a similar device as a plug in? Ive heard a few noise artists uding this effect, and they work solely "in the box".

Yeah there's a clone in VCV Rack. Check out the "Texture Synthesizer" by Audible Instruments.

The Crystallizer is a plugin that is a granular echo, kiiiiinda similar to Clouds/uBursts in that they are both granular synths and delays, but they both use different applications of the technology for relatively different sounds. The Crystallizer isnt a free plugin tho, but the VCV Rack ones are free!
