Not the most factual, but certainly the most entertaining of the Bounty movies, IMO.
@michaelpalmieri7335
@michaelpalmieri7335 7 ай бұрын
The 1962 version of "Mutiny On The Bounty" may have been more entertaining, as you say, but most critics insist that Marlon Brando was all wrong for the role of Fletcher Christian, because he appeared to be too effeminate, plus the fact that he spoke his lines with a lisp. The same critics maintain that the 1935 version of the film (with Clark Gable as Christian and Charles Laughton as Captain Bligh) is far superior to the '62 movie. Maybe they're right, because I saw the '35 take on the "Bounty" story on the Tubi channel.
@erzug
@erzug 7 ай бұрын
@@michaelpalmieri7335 I agree with your assessment of Marlon Brando's performance. I also saw the 1935 version on TUBI, but thought Laughton's Bligh was even more ruthless than Trevor Howard's Bligh. Laughton was extremely cruel to the ship's crew even before they arrived in Tahiti. At least more so than in the 1962 version. I've also seen the Mel Gibson/Anthony Hopkins remake in 1984. From what I've read, that movie seems to be the most realistic since Christian and Bligh were friends before the voyage and Bligh actually requested him to accompany him on the Tahitian mission They had also sailed on a previous voyage together. The 1935 version goes off the rails a bit when Bligh commands a vessel to go back to Tahiti in search of the mutineers and Christian for revenge. He actually went back to successfully accomplish the task he was assigned in his first trip there on the Bounty. He went to Tahiti with two ships (HMS Providence and Assistance). The H.M.S. Pandora was the ship that went to Tahiti to capture the remaining mutineers, of which 14 were returned to England.

I saw the Bounty with Mel Gibson, and given the time, the movie was much more explicit with the dance scene, but equally if not more powerful and for its time also, is the '62 version of the dance. She's beautiful and quite the enchanting dancer. It was for its time a seriously erotic scene.

The whole 1960th was a time when USA was morally a little more open to -female- body. Not every boob scene was deleted. McCarthy was over and it looked like American moral would become a bit more European. It was only a short time frame and then the evangelicans took over again.
