Maxime was outplaying Magnus all day Magnus really had a rough day I like seeing other players win beside Magnus of course Magnus is the Goat but it’s Good to break the Monotony and have these other GMs shine in the spotlight as well

Wow! He said he was exhausted and he still beat world no.1. I mean Magnus was probably playing some of the worst chess I've ever seen him play, but even then he is world no.1. Just shows how underrated MVL is.

He's not underrated, he's 2820 peak classical.

@@seya_2 I mean by what people think of him. They always think of him as a huge underdog against people like Magnus in Hikaru. But he even had a peak rating in blitz higher than Hikaru's peak in blitz. The only reason why Hikaru is better is his consistency. MVL has potiential to pull out the level of play that Magnus and Hikaru has, but it depends on the day.

MVL was blocked because he didn't have a large repertoire of openings (1.e4 and Najdorf). He had to question himself a lot with his exit from the top 10 world (and Alireza Firouzja taking the place of French No. 1). He decided to get back to work and add openings to his repertoire. That's also what a great champion is. Be able to get back to work when things go wrong.

I like that classic, Fischer-like taste in MVL's play, from the opening choices on. It's good to see a player rely on 1. e4 and the Najdorf + the Gruenfeld as Black. He is not so brilliant in interviews and maybe lacks charisma but is a very nice and humble person.

I don’t think he lacks Charisma he speaks with an accent like English must be his second language he doesn’t struggle with his words but I’m sure he’s more Fluent in his own mother tongue

Magnus just wasn’t in top form today he played like he had missed a nights sleep he didn’t seem his usual self Maxine played very competitively props to him
