My key has been fine after installing the bean feeder. That lets me grind light roasts at 30 RPM (but it does take a while...) which makes for some nice shots from the high flow billet baskets

I need to play with HE baskets. Been putting it off as I just haven’t had the time. I have tasted the Mazzer 83mm burrs a few times and from what I remember the shots were sharper and didn’t have this ultra smooth mouthfeel. But yeah I need to do some proper testing at some point.

P64 is more $$ I believe but great flat burr grinder. There's so many different burrs for 64mm. Conicals are generally more forgiving / easy to get good results but generally a bit more blendy tasting with silkier body.

Great video production quality, but honestly, I'm growing tired of all these grinder and espresso machine reviews by coffee youtubers. The grinder market is oversaturated with manufacturers just copying each other without introducing any new ideas or innovations. Coffee youtubers seem to be stuck in a cycle of repeating the same content by "reviewing" essentially identical grinders. I understand that gear reviews (especially grinders) attract a lot of views but coffee youtubers are also contributing to this "gear obsession". Perhaps that's why James Hoffmann doesn't do product reviews as often as before. Coffee youtubers should seriously shift their focus to reviewing coffee beans from local or global specialty roasters, similar to how wine youtubers/experts share their impression about wines from various price ranges and origins. They could also explore and share less-known single-origin coffees and highlight quality roasters that may not be as well-known. Coffee people should be more obsessed with coffee, not gears..

Looks cheap, and badging looks janky. Looks like a plastic blob. They should have went metal at this price. Edit: However, those burrs look fascinating. Are those notches like little pre-breakers or is it to aid in been feeding consistency?
@ilkzode18228 ай бұрын
This is a Baratza Sette in sheeps clothing. Cheap plastic, rotating collar, very cheap shopper. Sette is notorious for the hopper legs breaking as 3 of them have to be placed in 3 slots and then twisted to engage an actuator. Taking apart the sette for cleaning and fixing is so delicate amd finicky. The plastic bends so much it feels like a toy. The Sette is not solidly balanced. It can easily tip over because of its "7" design. This Aries looks so similar. Feels like the engineers said leta take the Sette, keep the body mainly plastic, but give it a bigger burr and RPM for people to play with because thats the new thing to play with. Im very tired of RPM selling points. The italian brand Baratza must be a little pissed off. And at over $1000 this is insane for not having majority metals parts for long term dependability
@robojimtv8 ай бұрын
Baratza is American not Italian. And while there's some inspiration I wouldn't call this a copy at all
@aramse8 ай бұрын
While there's some inspiration there's just no comparison between this and the Sette in terms of build. This has way more metal all around, the hopper locks in with magnets and the burr carrier alone could kill an entire army. The Sette is great but tends to break merely with a stern expression directed towards it.

It's honestly a very different profile that these present compared to most flats. It's got really nice texture but also offers a decent level of flavour separation. The shots are super smooth. Also there are sooo many 64mm burr options so you'd need to be more specific with which ones you're referring to to even begin to make a comparison.
