Thought I'd share one of mine... This is a Sheryl Crow Southern Jumbo from 2013. Bought it brand new out of the shop, pretty much as soon as it came in. I had just spent a few days in Bozeman at the Gibson factory as part of a dealer's event, I was only 19 and super stoked to be at a guitar factory on a "business trip", and knew I HAD to have a Bozeman made Gibby. It's basically a 1945 Reissue, with a neck that works for my hands, Sheryl Crow has pretty great taste in guitars I guess as I have been eyeing her most recent Country & Western model too.
I've basically played every (acoustic) gig I've done since then on this guitar. It has been beat up, dragged around, and generally treated horribly on tour. Zero issues. I think it will probably need its first re-fret over the next year. Adirondack Spruce Top, Mahogany Back & Sides, and I currently have an LR Baggs Session Pickup system in there too.
I happen to love the way it sounds, but at this point I'm so sentimentally attached to it that it will never leave my possession... Figured I would sonically document it here!
Recorded with Shure KSM32, Focusrite Saffire Pro 40, Logic Pro, no additional processing.

I swear Ian, you're gonna send me to the poor house!!! Your demo of the Guild D-55 was the deciding factor in purchasing that guitar. Now, I just ordered a Gibson Southern Jumbo because of that unmistakable Gibson vintage woody tone I heard in your playing! Keep up the good work! Although my wife would disagree ;)

Hey Ian, I've commented before on your page. Love yer stuff. I didn't say that I've owned so many guitars in the past, like the 1917 L4 or the 1942 L5. I've always been a long scale man as far as flattops go...1989 Taylor 810, a late 90's Bourgie Country Boy with a gorgeous bear claw top and my current Huss and Dalton DM. Man I put a LOT of miles on those first two guitars and hope to do the same for the DM. But one of my dream guitars, which I can't afford right now has always been a Southern Jumbo with those gorgeous split block inlays and a sunburst finish. Yes, Yes, Yes. You have good taste in guitars! Maybe I'll get into my other Gibbys some time. They were a little spotty..

First of all thanx for sharing. Sounds really, really great... That being said... I feel sorry for you Ian!!! As a young fellow you’ll be trying, buying many different guitars... That will go on at least until your 60ties... Normally guitars will get better in this process, you upgrade, discover and that keeps you going... the catch is... I don’t see much room for improvement from this one... 😂😂😂 Enjoy it. It sounds indeed great... DON’T EVER SELL IT!!!

I also find slope shoulder dreads very comfortable and nicely balanced, capable of doing almost anything, and doing it really well. A good choice for your number 1. Mine's a similar spec 12 fret cedar/mahog slope dread. Doesn't quite have the dry "snap" of spruce/mahog but tonally very versatile, responsive and forgiving. Thanks for sharing your fab SJ.

Who made your guitar? I love 12 fret dreads... Had one of those Epi Masterbilts years ago, Cedar top and rosewood back and sides, 12 fret slothead... It was a beast of a guitar, I never should have sold it.

@@ianmeadows6351 Hi Ian. Thanks for your interest. My 12 fret dread is a Faith FRSB45 Mars. It also has the advantage of having a 45mm nut width. Faith guitars are built in Indonesia, so they are relatively affordable. Don't let that put you off though. All their guitars are designed and quality controlled in the UK by the great Patrick James Eggle who's reputation in guitar building should be no surprise. I have formed great confidence with the Indonesian luthiers and slowly building up a collection of Faith guitars to cover all the tonal ranges I need for playing acoustic guitar. The square shouldered dreads are good too, but this cedar/mahogany Mars is just special, making it my personal no.1 guitar across the board, irrespective of the big names. That remains so every time it's picked up. Positives. Affordable, comfortable and intimate, great tone, well constructed, accurate tuning, quality materials, light but sturdy hard case included, gorgeous brown sunburst. As a seasoned player myself I know these guitars easily punch their weight in all regards against the more expensive, many of which I previously owned. (No disrespect to the great American makers at all). Drawbacks? Very few. Some feel the frets are a tad chunky, (like Eastman, apparently) but one can get used to that. If you're looking for more pronounced snap in fingerstyle or bluegrass (as in James Taylor) you'll need a spruce/mahogany version. But as you know, that's a lot to do with the fingers! Personally I would prefer small dot inlays instead of a blank fret board, but that's also subjective. Cheers!

I’ve played the Sheryl Crow C&W. It has a great voice. More shimmer and articulation than a bird. Really growls when played soft or harder. And it comes with a trance amulet system. Winner winner.

That's an awesome guitar. I have a 2011 Fullers SJ 1943 reissue with the mahogany woods. I love everything about it including the AAA+ wood they gave but for the thickness of the neck. Otherwise, that forward shifted bracing is so clean and rich sounding.

Nice guitar. I have a 1973 square shouldered, right side up bridge, SJ that's a honey. Not traditional, like yours, but sounds almost as good as yours. It's downsides are gargantuan braces and it's heavy as a tank. I'm reluctant to mess with it as who knows what it will do to the sound?

Just a word of caution, becareful with those d'addario soundhole tuners... I had one clipped on my J45 and the rubber pads reacted with the finish. I had to get the finish touched up. The folks at d'addario were kind enough to pay for the repair but I'd be careful with leaving the tuner on over extended periods of time. Great sounding guitar though!
