Thank you for the recommandations, I always feel like romance is too cliché so I avoid the genre all together. But when I think about it, a lot of genres are clichés and I still read them. Time to change that mindset and try some books and see where that leads me 🙃

I loved Book Lovers, but some of her others not so much. One trilogy I really enjoyed last year was The Inn Boonsboro by Nora Roberts. Small town vibe and I loved the three brothers’ different personalities. The three female friends who are brought together by this small town's healing powers are women I could hang with. There is also a background ghost story involved as the brothers are restoring this old inn which is very sweet. I loved all of them so can’t pick a favorite. I hope you give them a try.

You should definitely read the second installment in the Kiss Quotient series! Good stuff. Based on your tastes, I think you'd love Mhairi McFarlane. She's like the Scottish Emily Henry, but I personally prefer her writing - witty and dry, but packs a genuine emotional punch. _Just Last Night_ is my clear favorite, and like with Henry, she tends to write books that focus on the inner lives of her heroines and their non-romantic relationships as well (in fact, in _Just Last Night_ it's not exactly clear that the book will even _be_ romantic for a good portion of it). If you want something a little frothier and more tropey and romance-focused (but still witty, charming...and British), highly recommend Lucy Parker's _Act Like It_ about West End stars who start fake dating each other. I can't recommend the series that book starts off, though, since I read the second installment and didn't enjoy it. But the first one is ::mwah:: For historical romance, Lisa Kleypas is the best writer I've encountered thus far, imo...even when you get a book of hers with some problematic elements, she usually manages to toe the line and carry it off in a way that doesn't ruin the whole book, lol. Very insta-lusty, though, in most of the books of hers I've read, and that can understandably ruin it for certain romance readers, especially with this genre.

To Have and to Hoax got me out of a reading slump. It was so good. I really love the Lovelight Farms series.

Re:Since you enjoyed the Linda Holmes novel, you might try Annabel Monaghan's Nora Goes Off Script., It was my beach read on vacation in 2023. I agree it would be right up your alley with Flatshare and others you mentioned. It was my first romance read, so maybe I'll try The Flatshare and a few more here. Happy reading.

If you like a romance that takes place at a reality TV dating show, I recommend the Charm Offencive. I loved that book and the TV show component

I'm currently obsessed with "The Queer Principles of Kit Webb" and "The Perfect Crimes of Marian Hayes" (Books one and two, idk if there will be a book three but there isn't one yet). They're Georgian England, but very easy to read - the audiobook narrator is also really excellent in voicing everyone. Shenanigans, Highwayman heists, and romance. Cat Sebastian did a really good job with these, i'm still working through the rest of her stuff, but i like those two best so far.

I don't read much romance but I happened upon an author I've enjoyed, whose books I've never seen mentioned on book tube: Kate Clayborn. She has a 3-book series I liked pretty well (Chance of a Lifetime, I think it is) but my fav is a stand-alone called Love Lettering. Thanks for your recs! I've read and enjoyed some of them, and will probably check out a couple of the others. 😊

I recommend: Winner Bakes All (standalone contemporary romances set during a competitive baking show) by Alexis Hall. The first is Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake, the second (which is a new season of the show but does reference the past season) is Paris Daillencourt Is About To Crumble. These are all queer romances of different varieties

Hi Olive: As a romance reader of a number of decades, I'm familiar with all of the books you featured. Some I own and some I've also read. Since you enjoy Emily Henry, you might try her first adult romance book, Beach Read. I think you'd enjoy that. Since you enjoyed the Linda Holmes novel, you might try Annabel Monaghan's Nora Goes Off Script. As for others, I'd recommend Ashley Poston's The Dead Romantics. Her second book after that one is getting rave reviews as well: The Seven Year Slip. I'd also recommend Susanna Kearsley's books. I wouldn't call her a straight-up romance writer. She puts a lot of history into her books and her descriptions of settings draw you in. But, there's always a romance and frequently two time lines. I would start with Mariana, if you'd like to try her. I would also recommend The Impossible Us by Sarah Lotz. Once again, not a straight romance, more like a alternative world type book with a central romance. An author who I don't think is writing anymore, but whose books are good is Marsha Moyer. Her Second Coming of Lucy Hatch is terrific. I would also recommend Abby Jimenez. What the Wind Knows by Amy Harmon is excellent and I'd also recommend The Soulmate Equation by Christina Lauren (a writing team.) I could go on, but may that's enough for now.

Thank you. I've not wanted to read romance in part because I've never been in a relationship and have little interest in being in one. Why would I want to read about relationships? However, I guess romances have little in common with real relationships so I shouldn't be worried?

You might enjoy some asexual romances or fantasies with asexual characters, where the focus tends to be on individual fulfillment, friendships, or adventures as opposed to pure romance. Some suggestions are How to be a Normal Person, How to be a Movie Star, and in the Land of Puppets by TJ Klune; Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko; Loveless by Alice Oseman; The Bruising of Qilwa by Naseem Jamnia; and The Lady's Guide to Petticoats and Piracy by Mackenzie Lee. For a fantasy / historical fiction with a possibly ace MC, there's also Kaikeyi by Vaishnavi Patel
