It's n ice to see a 1st gen Colorado so well kept. I bought an '04 last year as a fix up project for $2,000. Many, many things need replacing. Did you add a list of parts you've used? It would be nice to know, even minor things, like the bulbs in your taillight assemblies, etc... Thanks for the video - it is motivatingl! John in 33712

Dude that's a nice Colly!! I have 2005 just like yours but mine is red. Bought it with 62,000 miles back in 09 and now I have 190,000 miles on it, best truck I have ever owned, I take very good care of it. The issues that I have had are, at 68,000 GM had a recall on their 3.5 engines so I needed up with a new one no charge, power window motor went out driver side, the blower motor resistor replaced, and the thermostat replaced. I then just bought a GMC Canyon SLE 4x4 and kept my Colorado.

Good looking truck! Can you tell me what type of paint and how you painted the wheel covers black? I like the look. I have a Blue truck, same one.

I painted the center caps with a special Rust-Oleum paint made for plastic. But it was just rattle can, matte black. Then I had the wheels powdercoated matte wrinkle black. Before I painted the center caps I did media shoot them with sand very lightly, it took off the factory paint that they had used and got it down to the raw plastic.I think the method work better than it did from the factory since it's been many of years and it's still looks brand new!

Did your truck come with the z71 4x4 stickers? I just bought an 05' Chevy Colorado LS but it's not a z71 model but had the stickers on it. It's not 4x4 either. I was just curious if they come with them. Thanks. Great truck!👍

Saw a Colorado promo video for dealers on yt. It said there was a Z71 appearance package available on non 4X4 models. 4X4' say it right below the Z71. No Wife and I are thinking about trading our 2014 Town & Country in on a 2005 Colorado this week. Only thing that worried me was the 220,000 miles on it, until I read some of the miles on others in the comment section or this video. The 1 we're looking at is a Z71 4X4 for $5900

I have a 2005 GMC Canyon, SLE Z71 (extended cab) with the same engine. I bought it at the beginning of last year, about March. Been running very strong, but had a couple hoops to go through. I replaced the radiator, after I took it into Jiffy Lube for them to drain/flush/etc. on the cooling system. Almost a month after they did that, it started to leak along the seam where the tank and core meet. I also replaced the hoses for PCV between air cleaner and valve cover. I was trying to fix an error / check engine light problem. Turns out, it was either throttle body or MAF sensor that needed cleaning, after some digging around KZfaq and Google. I cleaned both with off the shelf products specifically labeled for both at the local auto parts store. Removed the MAF sensor, and soaked it (flooded it really) and let it sit out and dry on shop towels. Removed the throttle body, used the cleaner and brush, then scraped it out, sprayed it more. Set it aside to dry, too. Reinstalled both and reconnected battery, started up fine, and the low idle code / check engine light problems have stopped since. My only real concern about it, which I am slowly not worrying too much about, the engine has a tiny ticking after running for a while. First noticed this at the muffler shop, when I first swapped out the muffler on it (had one too big from previous owner) that was rubbing against the driveshaft. That actually cut the original drive shaft in half, leaving me stuck on the freeway, something to look at, underneath the vehicle entirely next time making a purchase. Replacement shaft with new U joints via FedEx was amazingly fast and low priced. Anyways, that part is fixed, back to the one thing I think may not really be an issue but is something I wanted to bring up. The trip to the muffler shop... the guy there asked me if I "have enough oil in the engine", which I know it always does, I check it regularly when getting fuel. He said it sounds like the valves or something are out of oil. I hadn't really thought much of it until he mentioned this. I started to try listening, and do know it doesn't make the noise after sitting for a while, or first start of the day. I have been looking online for how to adjust the valves, lifter lash, etc., but couldn't really find anything. So... since the truck has the same engine as yours, have you ever noticed any sort of a ticking, particularly after having warmed up and driving it some miles? Anybody else reading this with the same engine have that happen? Thanks in advance, I know this got long typing, but I really like my truck so far, for a year, and don't want to think about it dying so soon. I have seen and read about these engines and trucks lasting well over 250K miles or more. And, in the JEG's catalog, they do sell a crate engine at a decent price, instead of buying a whole new truck.
