Follow along as I walk you through my 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid XL and discuss my likes and dislikes. You might find this video useful if you are looking to purchase a Maverick and want a no-fluff review of likes and dislikes. From the backseat to android auto, I cover it. Oh, and why does all this interior plastic scuff up so easily?

The Ford Maverick is a compact pickup truck that was introduced by Ford as a 2022 model. It’s positioned below the Ford Ranger in the company’s lineup and is aimed at consumers looking for a more fuel-efficient and urban-friendly truck option. The Maverick offers a choice of two powertrains, including a hybrid option.
The hybrid powertrain in the Ford Maverick combines a gasoline engine with an electric motor to provide improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions compared to traditional gasoline-only engines. This type of hybrid system, often referred to as a “full hybrid” or “self-charging hybrid,” can operate in electric-only mode at low speeds and under light loads, relying on the gasoline engine when more power is needed.
Towing and Payload: Despite being a compact truck, the Maverick could still offer respectable towing and payload capacities, making it versatile for various tasks.
Technology: Like other modern vehicles, the 2023 Maverick Hybrid might come equipped with advanced technology features, including infotainment systems, driver assistance features, and connectivity options.
Design and Utility: The Maverick’s design combines elements of a crossover and a truck, aiming to provide a comfortable and practical driving experience for urban and suburban dwellers.

Most common issues for the Maverick are fairly minor. Unless it's the issue with the engine and the other issue the the main electrical cord. That is not something people usually will face though, since it's been encountered by a small fraction of owners. The reason for the large amount of bugs on the windshield, is due to the front end of the Truck being lower than the rear. The truck angles forward, but you can buy a leveling kit from Zone Offroad that will even out the stance of the truck. If you use the kit though, you'll need to change to a larger tire and wheel, which Firestone makes a great tire for the Maverick. The Destination AT2 from Firestone is the tire you'll want. Most people talk about a rattle with the dash after a while of owning the Maverick. It's typically around the front side of the dash, near the windshield. Usually the speaker grill. If the rattle starts for you, you can use an envelope or something like that to stuff between the dash and windshield, use that to find where the rattle is. Then you can use 1/8 inch foam tape. Just stuff that in the seam between the dashboard and windshield and that should get rid of any rattle. You might also notice at slow speed, such as when you're in a parking lot, some sudden gripping of the brakes when applying brakes at slow speed. That is common for all hybrid vehicles, but it's very noticeable and pretty bad with the Maverick. That's a software issue, you'll need to see if the dealership has an upgrade for that. For older models you may need the software change, that will decrease the brake gripping.

Thanks for watching and the comments. So far, I haven't experience any issues with the main electrical cord. Good news is, if I do, I'm sure the warranty will cover it. I have noticed some rattles, just assume it's the cheap plastic and stuff I'm hauling in the truck. I'll keep an eye on it. I have not noticed the brake gripping you mention. This is my first hybrid .. but, maybe it's the brake sensitive I mention? Maybe that's the low speed gripping?

Use 303 aerospace on the plastics and they wont show marks so quickly...plus it will protect the plastic for uv rays

Wanted to touch base with you. We received our Maverick Hybrid nearly a month ago. I must say I absolutely love this vehicle!! Only one complaint. The drivers door keeps locking on me. I step away with key in the ignition and on position. I close the door and come back 30 seconds later and drivers door is locked. I can have the key out of the ignition and the same thing. Dealer has no idea what to do to correct the issue. I’m getting great gas mileage. 49.5 on last tank. Everything else is great. Can’t believe the msrp is so low for what you get. Thanks for all the great videos!!

Thanks for watching!! For the price, great little truck for sure. I have not noticed that locking behavior although I have not kept the key in the on position. I have kept it in the ignition in the off position, no issues.

Check out Cerakote trim coat for the exterior plastic. It should protect and preserve the plastic and it lasts for ages.

The plastic on the bed will fade over time. I use Back to Black on our Jeeps. You do need to reapply every 3 months or so to keep it looking new. Nice truck!

The button on the right is for brake hold. I use it most of the time. One issue that comes to mind on my XLT Hybrid is sometimes I get out and shut the driver's door, it lock shut. Others are having this issue as I read the Maverick Truck Club forum. Either take your key or remember the code if you have the touch buttons on the door exterior. Or open the doors with your phone app, unless it's inside too. Look in your left rear wheel well. See the little nylon strap? Pull that if your gas door doesn't pop open with the button inside.

Interesting. So brake hold basically holds the brakes at a stop, so you don't have to hold the brake down? I have not had the locking issue. I do not have the touch buttons but do have the app, so I have unlocked it a bit via the app. Nice little level of comfort for sure. I am washing the Maverick today and will look for that little nylon strap!!

Awesome. I just used the manual gas opening. Doesn't this defeat the purpose of a button inside? I am used to the backup levers being inside so someone cannot open.

@@jamzdotnet In hybrids the gas cap is pressurized which is why it has to be unlocked via button/backup lever. It’s not for security which is why the lever is just nearby rather than inside

Did my first long trip recently. Had the same issue with the gas pedal; poor pedal feel, feel like my foot is falling off. Hard to pivot from gas to brake because they're offset so much. It doesn't seem like a huge deal on normal trips, but after getting a little fatigued driving for hours it was noticeable.

@@jamzdotnet I'm wondering if the gas pedal is too lightly sprung. I wonder if it had more resistance that pedal feel would improve. I have a hard time feeling it with my worn out running shoes. As is it's like riding a motorcycle with heavy boots on; not enough tactile feedback.

Great video! I'm saving up to hopefully get one of these trucks and your list of dislikes didn't really seem that bad. Although I do worry about that black plastic too mainly because I am in Arizona, the sun is brutal here to plastics.

I have a black XL. The left arm rest is 3 inches away from my elbow (i'm 5'11"). The right arm rest barely touches my arm. Not so in the old style Rangers. And the big gap in the handle is more stupid than clever. If you drive 600 miles a day on a yrip, you need those arm comforts to be right. Other than that, it's all good.

For my left I just used the ledge on the window. I did 5 hours of driving today and it seemed ok. However, maybe because I am used to my old Colorado and it was like that?

You can hold down the power button and the skip button for 10 seconds to reset the display, still wack that it goes out like that though

That third button next to the TCS is autohold. When on, it will hold the brakes for you when you come to a stop or if you are positioned on a hill. You can release your foot off the brake, and it will hold the vehicle until you press the accelerator. I recommend reading up on your user manual to get the most out of the vehicles features

Ford seems to have adopted the Harley-Davidson build philosophy with the Maverick. You put out a base product that the owner needs to invest a lot of money in just to make it right.

On the other hand you could spec a Maverick with bells and whistles from the factory but in my opinion that takes away the biggest joy of this truck, the low price!

So, the truck is responsible for bugs on the front and windscreen, the plastic covers on the tray surround were put there so as they get damaged which is unavoidable with a truck, you can replace them.

My issue with the plastic is it's so cheap. I have some on my 2003 Silverado, the back tailgate, and it never got damaged (hauling pallets, rock, brick, etc.). This Maverick plastic on the tailgate already has cuts and scrapes in it. Not that stressed, I bought this truck for a purpose for my smaller projects. Thanks for watching!

I have a new Maverick Hybrid. The problem I see with the plastic both outside and inside is it scratches so easy and there’s no way to cover them up.

The cheap plastic inside is wild. I have 3 gashes from who knows what inside. Only 6000 miles ... At 100,000 will probably look like a cat was let loose inside!!!

You can add extra hooks in the bed like the ones you presently have. The holes are there. The XLT comes with top and bottom hooks front and rear in the bed. I had to remove the top ones at the front of the bed in order to install the adjustable side load racks, but the rear ones could be reinstalled. I don't know what to do with the unused ones, but i may find a place to use them. I'm not sure why you have so much of an issue with the plastic surfaces showing dirt - if you are fussy, just use one of any number of products to keep the surfaces clean. Don't you use anything on your Rovers?

Thanks for watching! Yes, I purchased the hooks and pending screwing them in. I suppose the dash, given the texture, is just so different from the smooth soft top leather dash in the Rovers I got spoiled. I washed it yesterday, it's so small it's quick :) I use meguiars products

I bought the exact same Ford maverick, literally identical minus the rear window. My biggest thing I wish I would have bought, the lane centering feature really changes the car. Mine came with the lane crossover protection but it sucks and I’ve noticed my car really likes to veer off one way or the other, it just doesn’t like to go straight which is weird since it’s brand new. My other biggest complaint is just how cold the engine stays and how long it takes to warm up with the hybrid motor. Winter is coming up and it’s currently about 62 degrees. If I ride with the heat on fan setting 1 at 72 degrees (which isn’t much) I could literally drive 50-60 miles and engine will not even heat up. The intercooler is way too overbuilt for the engine. Even if I turn on the heat when the engine is fully heated up, the engine temp will literally drop all the wya down in a matter of minutes. And it’s not even that cold out. As for my rear view Mirrow, I’ve put 5000 miles on mine and still haven’t had to readjust it yet, maybe you just got a bad one

Thanks for watching and appreciate the updates. The lane centering is nice. I had no idea I was buying it, so, don't feel bad about not having it! I 100% hear you on the cold engine. Now that it's colder outside I started to notice this as well. I thought maybe a sensor was bad, it stays so cold.

What I would expect for a $24,975 truck. Interior seems cheap but holding up fine. The plastic inside scratches very easily. Absolutely no mechanical issues. Android Auto locks up a few times a week but may be my phone.

I haven't had snow yet .. picked this up in the spring and it's fall now. A month or two I will have snow and know for sure. Given it's FWD I think it'll manage in light snow ok. Admittedly though, the tires are just basic highway tires. For big snows I'll definitely drive my 4x4 with proper tires.

Nope. 1 year order process. Figured I would just go for it :) I hate the car buying experience today. I miss the days of driving to a lot, endless inventory, and heckling to get below invoice pricing.

They do sell the hell out of them, many more than they can produce. I ordered mine on Sept. 16, 2022 and received it in the middle of July this year.

Watch my channel, I keep my cars perfect. But, basic in and out of the truck this thing picks up everything. The weird plastic is like a magnet.

Just a lot of whining here.... :) Perhaps spend a little and get a clear bra installed on the front end, and the leading edge of the hood, and that will take care of the majority of bugs hitting it... Your next video - "I hate the black color !!! It scratches so easily"..... :) Get rid of it....Please...... :)
