That ProRes Apple LOG is impressive! Using the Blackmagic Camera app is also a big factor in it. Being able to control the entire exposure triangle is huge in getting a natural look from it.

I wish my S5IIX didn't gray-out the top dials - they're nearly impossible to see in dim light. My only other complaint is some of the function choices are spread across the menu system. It can be very hard to remember where all the adjustments for a single function are hiding. And some things in the menu are cryptically named, requiring a bit of research to get it all figured out. Panasonic needs to rework their menu system and follow Leica's example.

A Panasonic camera with Leica’s menu system would be a dream! I agree, I did have to do some research in getting familiar with the menu and names of features in there when I first started using the camera. And that’s good to know about the S5IIX! I love the look but I wondered if it played a role in practicality.

The S1R also has a high res mode that is 180MP or something similar. The S5II can do "only" 96MP, but it can also do it handheld. Obviously the S5II is a much better video camera so probably the better choice.

To my eyes, the S5 is the closest thing to Leica’s color and contrast (I mean SOOC). Good shooting experience with M lenses. Focus peaking + one-button magnification work well in this scenario. It also includes an “L Monochrome” color profile. I’m not sure L stands for Leica but it sure looks like it.

I will say that V-LOG and L-LOG are both incredibly similar. They have a close working relationship with Panasonic, so it makes sense.

I love my S1H but the S5II's autofocus really makes me want to get one. With that said though the lack of an OLPF and the moire is just too prominent. I hope the S1H mk2 is around the corner

S1H has held its spot pretty well considering the years it’s been out! A lot of new cameras have come out since then. I’m sure the MK2 is gonna be a beast.

great calling out the charger trend and cutting corners thing companies do now! Had the original S5 for years for scanning and on assignments. That value can’t be overstated in times were full frame in general especially their flagship models are so much money for most of us, to the point were the gfx system was better value for me personally for something to invest in.

I suppose the S1R is still their primary photo camera, it has the highest resolution. Though it’s several years old. I’d imagine the MKII can’t be too far off at this point.

How does it handle M glass with an adapter? I'm looking for a good AF camera that can also take my Leica lenses without breaking the bank.

I had the SL2S and the S5 at the same time before I sold the SL2S.... Corner smearing/sharpness is still an issue on the S5 compared to the SL2S. so it's not a great option tbh

@@mattdayphoto yes I have the adapters too (various helicoid versions too to ensure I am getting the correct focus) but keeping the lighting, framing and everything else the same, the SL2S just performed better around the edges of frame which makes it even more sad that I had to sell it :( SL2S is an amazing photos camera with good hybrid features, but with the S5 (And now S5IIX) being more video centric, the Leica became redundant.

I’ve tried to find a loan unit to do a review, but no luck so far. I have tried one out for a day or so and the gist of my experience was: Fast autofocus, great files to work with, dreadful ergonomics. If I were to use one, I would have to add a grip to it. It just wasn’t comfortable for me at all. And I’ve always loved Nikon cameras, I used their DSLRs for years, but this was my first time trying out a Z. I’m sure I would enjoy the other models for their better ergonomics.

What lens do you use on the s5ii for scanning negatives? I have the same camera and want to start doing this for my 35mm film. The video on the camera comes out great, dynamic range, colors, and autofocus. Having a built in fan, you can use this camera for hours on end.

I’ve tried to get a review unit of the Zf to do a video, but no luck so far. I got to play around with one for a day and the autofocus was great, the files are great, but it was very uncomfortable to hold and shoot with, in my opinion. The ergonomics were just really bad.

I had the X-H1 very briefly years ago and I liked it. I’ve heard the X-H2s is great. No real bad cameras these days!

I did! I made a video at the end of December talking about it, but I did go back to the original M11. Enjoying shooting color more these days, but there’s something about the M that has a death grip on me. 😂 If I could own both, I would. But one comes in, one must go out!

Not gonna lie, I could tell this was shot with an iphone pretty quick. For as awesome as they've become they still haven't gotten colour down right, especially skin tones. The 6k open gate on the S5II though is super interesting for different formats like anamorphic.

The overhyped Lumix S5II is the worst camera under the sun. Moire Issues everywhere, much too oversharpened, digital artificial picture and video cause no inbuild low pass filter Fooled buyers must use mist filters because without the images and video quality out of cam is disgusting. Autofocus is so bad it´s a shame. - and the list goes on and on.
