5 of my favourite curses/ncurses programs....
***
Making this video was a hard slog - I had hardware failure, software crash and lost files to contend with...so you may see a glitch or two on screen, if so, please accept my apology....

htop is one of my favourite tools but "glances" is just amazing. Thanks

would love to see a boutique Linux distro that has an entirely TUI ncurses desktop

I figured I should supply the origins of the software mentioned: sysutils/ncdu, (sysutils/htop), sysutils/py-glances@py36 (installs as py36-glances), misc/mc (As someone who previously used Norton Commander, I feel so at home in Midnight Commander), audio/moc, and games/bastet. Now I'll try out glances.

Thank you ximalas - I should have done the origin thing.... Midnight Commander does feel so natural to use... I always install it....

and notcurses is implementing the kitty terminal standard for text mode inline images - which is superior to the old Sixel standard

MOC plays network streams too, i.e streams from internet radio. Neat!

You didn’t mention that mc uses the mouse at least where I saw a colleague using it on Ubuntu. Yes it does and I spent a while trying to understand how. It’s DEC’s mouse strokes feature and emulated by Putty. We have very similar music collections

Oh..... I forgot it does....I just use the keyboatd when using mc..... :-)

mc is brilliant, it's mind boggling graphical file managers don't do split view other than Dolphin, which is a great filemanager but for me not worth it to switch to KDE from WindowMaker or CDE which are my usual go to's, with mc as my file manager if I just want to wander around and not use the command line

Mc has been my life saver on so many occasions... there is an Amiga inspired filemanager for FreeBSD that uses Directory Opus an a design inspiration....its called worker...runs under X11 and is in the ports and okgs - it is actively developed and has been around for 20 years or so....and for me fits in really well with Motif design...
