Speaking as a train driver I can say this layout has captured the real railway in every way, the ballast is so realistic in all its different colours, the different types of track used in the running lines, sidings and loops, the vegitation on the line side, the weeds in the cess and 6 foot, the lengths of rail abandoned in the 6 foot, the weathering of the infrastructure, the track workers all over the place.....I could go on and on, this is an amazing railway and represents an authentic view from the cab....Brilliant Work

I was a Supervisor at the Thamesport Rail Terminal and concur with everything you say Mike, this is absolutely phenomenal work, congratulations Michael, you have a gift for reality. I love the gentle curves and the totally realistic layout placements of all the things you would expect to, and would, see on a real journey. I have just watched this through twice and keep seeing things I never noticed before, it's staying in my 'watch later' file. All best wishes for your recovery Sir.

That was a great video Mick, you got the speed just right for the runs around, I was able to look at things in great detail right down to flowers and all the passengers sitting patiently in the Blue Pullman. It's a cracking good layout and collection that you have and the level of detail shows that you are very aware of how things look in real life and you have captured it superbly in miniature. @@michaelsmith-hn1cn well get well super soon, and just look after your self, O gauge is coming on well, it’s only 9ft long and 4 ft wide, it’s frustrating as I want a bigger space, but that will come in time, and the gauge is becoming more popular too so buzzing for that, class 86 wow I’d love a 86 & 90 in O gauge but not a fan of building a brass kit, rather ready to run, but once I have some pictures I’ll email them to you, it’s chaos on the layout at present, but please take care chief

Lovely "little" layout and thanks for the tour. A lovely mix of old and new as well I like that. How many locos was that in total? Is that a mix of Steam and diesel as well? Hope you feel better soon.
@michaelsmith-hn1cn3 жыл бұрын
Hi. 280 in total. I have 290 to run, of these is Steam 86 diesels 176 Electrics 10 rest are display models. Thank you for watching. Mick

Wow! An amazing layout. You have an eye for detail and your craftsmanship is inspiring. The Royal Mail depot is completely convincing, and I'd like to have seen more of the canal (a separate short video? Perhaps you have something in your videos already). The only criticism I'd have would be the signal box names, where the text could be better aligned - it's noticable only because we'se seeing it from lineside level. Is the Castle Cement sign a stopgap?
@michaelsmith-hn1cn3 жыл бұрын
Hi John welcome.. what a great comment. Yours points taken on board. Castle cement sign is permanent it was to match the cement wagons but they sold out before I could purchase them I will get back to the name plates at some point. and there is a better shot from above of the canal a couple of video's back. Take care. Mick

@michaelsmith-hn1cn3 жыл бұрын
Hi Roy and welcome. I use the GOPRO session the black cube type, no long sold only 2nd hand now. A fantastic camera for railways, don't know why they stopped making it. Thanks for the comment. Mick

Best layout by far that i have seen on here level of detail is quite amazing, who makes the colour light signals ?
@michaelsmith-hn1cn3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mike for your comment. The signals are made by CR signals and connected to each other by PCB boards made by Heathcote electronics. All the best. Mick

Nice to see a model of the Class 50 in Gbrf livery like the real loco I painted at Arlington Fleet Services in Eastleigh.

@@michaelsmith-hn1cn no Micheal we are based in the old Railway works at Eastleigh, I originally worked there as a coach painter, until we closed in 2006 I then worked in Portsmouth Naval Base shipbuilding and warship repair until I was made redundant in 2018, I have been working for Arlington since then

My wife has had Bell's Palsy, it had quite an effect to begin with down one side of her face, like a stroke. Now, about 4 years later it is only she who notices a slight twitch. I can't see any symptoms. Its not a nice thing to happen - but I'm sure your condition will improve with time. Take care. Love your layout.

Awesome layout. How long did it take you to build it? The only incongruous things are the water cranes. They would normally be situated on the end of the platform and not in amongst the ballast! Thanks for uploading.
@michaelsmith-hn1cn3 жыл бұрын
Hello Allen thank you for your comment. It took me 4 years to get most of it done then I just keep adding, I'm still adding to it even now. I like the look of these cranes a bit of old and modern mixed. To put them on the platform would make it a bit crowded but taken on board. All the best. Mick
@AllensTrains3 жыл бұрын
@@michaelsmith-hn1cn To get around the problem of the water cranes not being correct for the time period depicted, I would take Totnes in 1986 as your inspiration when Dart Valley trains used to run into the BR mainline station. In this way, you can have HSTs and steam hauled services using the same platform! Of course, you could have a separate platform and water crane as is now the case at Totnes. This video follows the history of Totnes since 1986. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hcuJgbpoqbesnpc.html
