Hey everyone!
In this video I talk about my experience having just graduated from Biomedical Engineering from my university! As a transfer student I have definitely experienced the difficulties and benefits of this program, and I would like to share my tips and tricks that helped me navigate successfully through the BME major.
Through my undergrad career I was able to work in a research lab, a medical device internship, and now secure a full time job as a Product Development Engineer! It's a field full of highs and lows, ups and downs, but at the end of the day it's all worth it!
Hope you enjoy, and please reach out to us on instagram for any other questions :)

"High school professors are much better than University Professors" I can't agree more, I had similar personal experience! The current academic system doesn't give much incentive, space, and resources for a professor to teach well. I enjoyed your sharing, really great resource for students!

2:55 Spot on! It's a growth process for most. Do not fear starting off 'slow'. If the degree is really for you, you will grow into it. I mean, my grades weren't exactly straight A's either in year 1 (or the rest of them), but I ended my undergrad with cum laude, and Master's degree with magna cum laude. To all Meri's BME prospects: stay positive, and GROW! And stay on her channel, because I'm sure she's the right person to guide you further along!

i look up these kinds of videos to calm my anxiety. im a freshman and since the covid19 situation we've been doing self study and online classes from the start and i am completely lost. Theres no classmate/guy sitting next to me to ask questions about the assignment, tips etc. Virtually no social life since its a part time major. Completely foreign concept to me. Applied to Uni literally on a whim when some guy mentioned the uni application dates. Its been about 5 years since i picked up a textbook or calculator, prior to that i was in the military so my mindset is going to have to make a lot of adjustments.

adam terry Thank you! 😊 At my school they called specializations “concentrations”. My concentration was cell and tissue engineering. From my understating and what I’ve been exposed to, it doesn’t really matter what your concentration is.. income will increase depending on your experience level and performance once you’re in industry. Getting a masters is always a good idea 😁

Hi meritxell Martinez, thank you for this video . This video says what questions that I need. But I want to know: 1. Is there any possible to become biomedical engineer at hospital? 2. Are SOLIDWORKS and Arduino too tough to learn 3. In my life two semesters finished but I get nothing about my BME field 4. Practising to create biomedical devices by seeing KZfaq biomedical invention projects are useful to improve my skills? 5. if After completing these four years studies , what a biomedical engineer should do for the job . Please reply for these questions
@TheBMELife
@TheBMELife 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jasim! Sorry about the late reply. 1. Yes! Look up clinical engineering. You usually work at a hospital setting helping doctors with medical devices. I cover this in the BME Career Paths video. 2. Nothing is too tough to learn with enough effort and dedication put towards it. Do something you are interested in and you will do great 3. You should get at least something about the BME field, but it is totally normal to be confused. I personally did not really understand bme fully until probably my junior year 4. You mean just watching videos, or actually building from tutorials? Watching videos is worthwhile, but obviously putting your hands to it is even better. You should also join clubs/organizations where you can develop skills 5. Number one thing is GET AN INTERNSHIP. You should give your all to try to get at least ONE internship during your undergrad. If you tried it all and have no luck, try to get into a research lab at your university or hold leadership positions in relevant engineering organizations Hope this helps!

This video was really helpful adam. I've done my mechanical engineering bachelors, can I apply for BME for masters? I've much interest in medical industry and the part that you told about designing in solidworks is pretty smooth with me. If yes than what kind of skillsets or knowledge do I require apart from that you showed in video so that I could be equally comfortable with those who have done bachelors in BME.
@TheBMELife
@TheBMELife 4 жыл бұрын
Kaustubh Nalawade you can definitely pursue a BME masters if you’d like to learn more about the field! If you’re thinking of going into industry to work on design, BME won’t give you any more skills! It will just expose you to the biological side and medical applications, which you don’t get as a mechanical engineer. But you can DEFINITELY enter the medical device industry with your Mechanical Engineering bachelors only.

Depends who you ask! If you work extra hard during your undergrad and get at least one internship experience and network with professionals, it should be easy to find a job.
