After many suggestions to try resetting my AirPods Max I did last night and the battery drain is the same as it was.
@drjosephs347
@drjosephs347 3 жыл бұрын
I did a hard reset and now I have the expected slower battery drain. After about 8 hours in the case, they went from 90 to 86. I have not connected them to my Apple TV in a few days. There a have been some thoughts here about multiple devices in the Apple eco system trying to stay connected. There may be something to that.
@db4a
@db4a 3 жыл бұрын
@@drjosephs347 If you don’t put them into the case then the Bluetooth and Find My functions still remain active for 72 hrs. This 72 hr drop time is unusually long because Apple wants the AirPods Max to instantly connect to another Apple device when the user places them back on their ears. However, there could be some device grabbing the still active Bluetooth connection of the AirPods Max which could be causing the battery to drain. Using the ear sensors, Apple should automatically drop the Bluetooth and Find My functions if the AirPods Max have been off the ears after 2 hrs. It shouldn’t take long to reestablish those connections when placing them back on the ears. And I’m sure that most users would rather those connections be dropped than have potentially excessive battery drain during standby mode.

I recalled my problem could be due to it being constantly connected to another iCloud account on another iPhone. Ie multiple devices connection issues. Perhaps logging out from all help. We did it by disconnecting from the other account.

There was a recent firmware update that created this bug on the AirPods Max. New firmware is 3C16, unsure what the update was for but this created a bug. Hard reset the AirPods Max and that should easily fix the problem. I had the same issue in the last few days after the update and fixed it through hard reset.

Thanks for the tip. I had some battery draining issues as well (I have firmware 3C16). Did a hard reset. That’s a good theory , that the 3C16 is buggy. The reset fixed it. But the problem appears again again after a few days, if you use it the same way. I think what triggers the bug is using. You are not the only one, I have seen a couple of other reviewers say the same thing, along with other issues such as hissing in the left cup. For the people who were saying that the price was justified and those that don't agree are just haters, these are the types of things that make it hard to justify the price. Hopefully, these are issues that can be fixed through a software update, otherwise those who bought the headphones were scammed.

@alejandroelcid 3 жыл бұрын
@@CescoCDN A phone is not comparable to a car. What Apple did is place themselves in a non-existent tier (of headphones). It is on them to justify themselves being higher priced, without much of a meaningful difference with other headphones in the $300-$400 range. At the same time they also need to prove why they are meant to compete with certain headphones (think Bose, Soundcore, Drop+ THX Panda, and Sony) rather than audiophile headphones in that price range (think Sennheiser, Audeze, AKG, and AudioTechnica). That is the logic.

Makes me wonder if it needs rebooting. I did the same, putting mine on a headphone hanger without case. It’s been a day and a half and it’s declined by 16% (hung it at 96% and it’s at 80%). At this rate, it’ll easily hit 72 hours. This type of drain happens occasionally with my Apple Watch. Typically after an entire day, it finishes with about 55% charge left. But every once in a while the watch drains down to 10% in less than a day for unknown reasons. I reboot it and everything’s fine. Perhaps rebooting the headphones is needed (from what I read, hold down both buttons for several seconds and the headphones will reboot).

JTL, not clear what the issue is that you are having but I’ll share a couple of thoughts. If they aren’t shutting down appropriately with the magnet case or on their own then that sounds like an under warranty issue. My own experience with the AirPods Max presented one problem, that happened after I connected them to an external amp/dac for A-B testing versus the Pandas and a few other headphones in wired mode. I performed a hard reset and the issue hasn’t recurred.

Hmm... I've been using mine extensively for 4 weeks now. They don't lose charge when they're in the case. I have the case always laying on the table though, never hung them vertically on a hanger... perhaps it's some strange accelerometer bug where they can't really go into low power mode if they sense they're not laid flat... very very stupid but maybe it's worth investigating.

My suspicion is that this is related to a software/firmware update (I think there was one issued right about the time people started having problems) and that it can be fixed in software or firmware. Also there is some suggestion that rebooting the APMs will fix the problem, at least for a while. From my standpoint, whenever I put my headphones on a stand I plug them into power to charge, so I doubt I would have noticed this without seeing the MacRumors forum and your video. But I agree, when not in use they should not discharge anywhere near this fast. I’ve got a pair on order but they won’t come for a couple of months, so I’ll have ample time to see if this gets resolved.

So I had this issue. But the problem was that you need to have auto ear/head detection turned on, otherwise they will continue to connect to any nearby device when they’re not on your head.

Sorry to here this I would not settle for that myself. I would think they can provide an update that would allow you to hold down a button to power off and on, something I wish they had done from day one. Oh my wife bout me a PHT mug for Christmas.

Apple needs to release a patch that powers OFF the headphones when they’re either in the case or lay flat on a service, use the crown button to power on, my suggestion.

@@olafdietz3873 A workaround is to make it optional with Apple putting in the disclaimer that if you choose to leave it in low power mode the some battery power will be drained. In other words leave it to the consumer how they want to manage their AirPods Max but they need to at least have the option.

They won’t do that or else Find My won’t work. Secondly, other AirPods have no power button either. The illusion that the other AirPods have 100% charge when in the case makes people not think about a power button but the case is constantly discharging. The only difference between a Max and the other AirPods is that the Max keeps all of its charge in itself, instead of having it mostly in a case. Would you think differently if the Max had a 2-hour battery life but had about 18 hours in its case? Why does no one think about a power button for other AirPods? Jason’s problem seems unique. My own experience is nothing like his. I had mine hanging on a headphone hanger without case for 36 hours and lost 16% power. If I don’t use it, it’ll easily reach 72 hours with over 60% charge left. Rebooting his headphones may solve the problem of battery drain (hold down both buttons).

@@techinrl9869 Yes I KNOW AirPods don’t have a power button, they can release new firmware updates to make the crown an on/off action button by holding it down for a few seconds etc. And as far as the “find my AirPods” feature is concerned again that can be part of the disclaimer that Apple will make customers understand when setting up, “find my AirPods feature will only works when powered on” that way the customer chooses. Again it would NOT be taking away the low power mode but simply give the consumer the option of powering them off IF he/she chooses but with that understanding.

@TamingChaos
@TamingChaos 3 жыл бұрын
None of the AirPods line have off switches. Partially to make sure they can be rung by Find My if you miss place them or need to find them if you lose them. If you have an on off button thieves can just turn it off until they get somewhere safe and reset them. I’d still prefer the choice to turn them off.

I am probably wrong here, but I thought MKBHD said in his video that the low power mode doesn't kick in out of the case after 2hours? Maybe they've changed that with a software upgrade, I'm not an apple tech user, but I seem to remember something like this when they came out

Tbh this was expected. 1st gen new tech, “ultra low power mode”, and no power button. All Apple has to do, is fix it with software by adding it to the OS in a update like everything else and allowing voice activation via Siri to turn it off.

It's a problem that Apple could probably fix with a software/firmware update that would change it to let you turn them off or into the ultra low mode with one of the two buttons but they probably don't want to because they want you to use that case.

Apple wants the headphones to stay connected as much as possible so they can be seen by the Find My app. I have tried it and it works as expected. Also the instant on is nice with a fast connection to my iPhone or Mac. I would turn off my Sony M3s each time I finished using them so turning them on often was a pain. Maybe Apple can give us a power on off control and let us decide if we want the hassle of managing the power in exchange for better battery life

This is definitely an annoying problem. I have decided that if I choose to keep them I’ll just need to leave then plugged in overnight every night. It’s exasperating. 72 hours is ridiculous to wait for ultra low power mode. There are more problems than there are pros so far. Luckily we have that lengthy extended holiday window to decide before I return them.
