I thought it was irreparably broken...did I waste money buying a new one..?
I know I said the sim drifting video would be next, but I had to get my car ready to drift in a couple days and this took just a few minutes to shoot and edit (new workflow entirely shot and edited on my phone which is pretty rad!) THAT SAID: I'm working on the sim drift video now even as this is uploading...soon!! ;)

I was just installing the big 3 electrical upgrade on my Singer 220 amp alternator and my charging post came loose........ AGAIN!!! Last time this happened the post itself snapped and I had to have it rebuilt, and with it coming loose just now I figured I'd have to have the damn thing pulled out of my car and fixed again, but luckily I stumbled onto your video and after watching it I went to take another look under the hood and THANK GOD it's an easy fix!!! I would have had to have the new alt taken out and put my old one in, then I would have had to drive about 100 miles to the only alternator rebuild shop in my state, then drive back and have it all swapped back out!!! Your video saved me about 400 dollars thank you so much!!!

Dang sorry to hear that, but I’m glad I could help! At this point my alternator charge post is held in by a healthy amount of loktite permanent fastener compound...the kind you’re supposed to heat with a torch before removing. It hasn’t had any negative impact on the charging capability and definitely doesn’t come loose while street driving like my original failure. I have had it cone loose when trying to remove the nut on the end of the post, but that was probably with the no-heat removable loktite. There must be a special service tool, like a washer-thin wrench to go around that piece that you can get but for now just ramming it in there with a 💪🏻 thread locker has been doing the job pretty well. Safe travels! 👋🏻

I'm having the same issue with my 75 chevy truck. Swapping the alternator tomorrow 🤞🏽

The1AceOfSpades when I replaced mine I used loktite on the threads and didn’t have that issue again. Though the next time I had to take the alternator out it was spinning freely again which was a pain 😅

Did you have to go with a bottom mount for fitment reasons? Also are you using a truck or car alternator? The truck alternators are 140 amp and also have a much smaller rear cover. I have only ever had an issue with brushes on my truck. Also I have seen these cs130s go through insane abuse (offroad racing) with no issues so that is so weird you are having this problem

The Drifting Dad my swap is right out of a Z28 camaro so I’m using all OEM car gear...I never considered any other options fitment wise. Honestly my oil pan will hit before the alt does so I’m not too worried about it 😬 I’m stoked to hear my alternator style should be fairly robust but I’m 2 for 2 on the post vibrating loose 🤔 Hopefully the threadlocker works!

What an unusual way to build that charging post, I’ve never had one do that before so I always assumed that past was cast with the rest of the metal housing 😅

Benny Obscene haha yeah if it’s not one thing it’s another! I’m motivated to get it solved by this Saturday’s event though, I think it’ll be alright. I appreciate the support!🙏

@@KameTrick also my car will rough start similar to this after the battery has been disconnected. the ECU loses its setting for the idle air controller and needs to re-learn them before you get a smooth idle.

FWIW high strength locktite has prevented any future issues for me, and didn't impact the alternator's charging capabilities. Glad I could help!

A side note was that alternator post on mine was broken - i assume rebuilt (sold to me by mechanic as new) and someone used pneumatic tools to put that terminal post on- mechanic did not tell me, and because the connection was not sound (flat surface to flat surface) - over 11 months my cable alternator generator cable repeatedly heated to over 220 degrees, the bolt holding the cable welded it self on through arcing, and needless to say the plastic surround the cable cracked off... - and only when the copper got so fried that the voltage difference (converting to heat) become enough did my check engine light turn on ... Generator center 16V - 2 inches down cable 11.6V.. So knowing that is replacible in some scenarios is actually a good thing...

Sorry to hear you had to deal with that, but thank you for sharing your experience. There was precious little info on this issue when I first encountered it. For what it’s worth, I secured it with locktite and have verified that it charges fine and haven’t had any more issues out of it. Still on the same alternator, battery, and wiring ever since making this video…no issues since and I should be able to remove it if I every need to 👍🏻

thesoundman22 thanks for the input! This was a very simple phone edit, pretty quick to produce, but yeah I could spruce it up a little bit more as I get used to the editor😅

My nut was locktighted on the stud itself an the stud snapped off inside.. apparently it happens quite a bit because the electricity weakens the stud an you put much upmf at all into trying to loosen it and the stud twists off, trying to figure out how I can fix it now. What kinda editing app do you use. Decent video for being made on your phone

What a pain, huh? I lock tight the stud in and figure if it breaks off the alternator I’ll just replace the whole thing without hurting my wiring 🤷🏻‍♂️ Though I’ve had no problems after locktiting it. I edit with premiere pro and usually film with my phone or some GoPros

So did you say it happened twice-and on two different alternators? Do you know why? Update? Did it fix it long term? This is my problem right now. I killed two batteries until I wiggled this charging post and it would not tighten down(WTH?) I had this alternator rebuilt and he told me it would only last a couple of years... I took it to O'Reilly they said it passed the bench test(I know that doesn't mean anything, I have had them be bad and still pass the test-has to do with the spilled oil heating up on the coils and then they don't charge right-at least that was my issue according to my auto electric guy) I think I am just going to buy another one. Wife's car I don't want her stranded. Thanks for the video. Congratulations on being a dad?!

What I have been doing ever since is when I get a new alternator I use a thread locker like loktite to thread lock that charge post in. It hasn’t come loose as a result so it did fix the problem ✅ In my case, since it’s a drift car and I take stuff on and off rather frequently I’ve still had the charge post come loose while trying to remove the nut that holds the charging wire on, but that’s not a problem you’d have on a daily driver, cause you wouldn’t take the alternator off until it died anyway. Hope this helps! 👍🏻

I’ve never heard of this happening...a fair bit frustrating, you’d think that would be addressed from the factory 🤷🏻‍♂️

Dose that terminal just screw out?
@KameTrick
@KameTrick 8 ай бұрын
Sure does! I’d never seen anything like it, but twice it ended up rattling loose and then aggravating my electronics. I bought a new alternator and started by removing that terminal, then reinstalling it with high strength thread locker and it’s been fine for years

I just LOVE watching IDIOTS do things way, WAY above their "pay grade"... People doing things when they have NO IDEA of what they are doing just CRACKS ME UP BIG TIME! Does this clown even know the VERY BASICS of alternator design... ??? What I'm waiting for is for our boy here to get himself in line with GROUND and the POSITIVE while the spindle is actually running around 1500 RPM's!!! That will really make my day!!!
