As a white Brit who grew up in a heavily Asian populated area of London I can honestly say, that is grade A, Daily Mail, right wing nonsense! The only children taught that Islam is the one true religion are children whose families belong to that faith. That's why Muslim children can be excused from religious studies if their parents insist, because according to the Quran it's pretty much forbidden to entertain other religious beliefs. My children are learning about religion in school and absolutely love it, because it helps them to understand the beliefs, backgrounds and traditions of their friends and neighbours a lot better.

It was about generalisations crossing multiple countries which he explained. However the UK and Ireland are very different to the rest of Europe and are their own breed and whilst in some ways are similar with yanks we aren't very much like the continentals so a lot of things said in the video don't apply to much.

The fashion bit was an old stereotype, UK was supposed to be more street fashion while France and Italy etc more classic and stylish, but not now. In Europe we do travel more between countries, probably easier than your trip to another state! At school we (in south UK) would do day trips to France, so from a young age saw a different culture.

yeah, I'm a guy, but I feel like the video covered more of the "big city upper class" types. To some extent. Never seen women go shopping in yoga pants, sure, but still, you won't often see them gorcery shopping with their kids while wearing a skirt or dress either. Jeans and hoodies are quite common. Same for alternative styles and counter-culture. Punk-rock girls and such aren't inexistent or even rare in most big cities. Same goes for men. We don't often go out with a tracksuit or cargo shorts and a food brand t-shirt, jeans and a button-up or nice t-shirt are the norm, but we don't live in suits. We're just less "0 to 100" than americans I'd say. addendum: also, isn't the style vs. comfort thing ridiculous? Like, you can be stylish with nice pants and a blouse, some cute sneakers or something. Style isn't limited to weird unwearable catwalk bs...

We do, but it's in relation to America/Americans (which you could say is the same thing as not learning about other countries) when about it. Being taught about Christianity/Judaism/The Bible? Learn (a little) about Israel, Jesus vs. Ancient Rome and Moses vs. Ancient Egypt (ie: the movie Prince of Egypt). Being taught about the American Revolutionary War? Learn (a little) about England (and even less about France). Being taught about the immigrants "who *all* wanted to come to the United States because we're #1 in the World!?" Learn (a little) about the Pilgrims, the Irish Potato Famine, the German immigration of 1880-1910, etc.

@@kimberlyh.1090 The best way to learn about other countries is to travel but this is difficult for the average American to do for a number of reasons. The internet has made virtual travel possible and accessible for everyone. It's not the same thing as actual travel but it's still an excellent learning tool. I lived in the US for a while and, although I may be wrong, the impression I got was that there seemed to be a firm belief that since America is #1 in the world then other countries aren't really worth learning about (same goes for languages since English is the most widely spoken language in the world).

As a “European women” not in London, I can tell you that I dress for comfort 99% of the time, lockdown hasn’t helped that at all. Also we learn a lot about other countries and religions, as young as 6/7 I remember learning about Ramadan (Islamic event), about Buddhism and reincarnation, learning about the Romans. About Australia, how it was founded and it’s tribes. Probably more too, but that’s all I can remember these days 🤣 and in high school, in many exams we had to learn about a bunch of other countries to be able to answer questions and actually pass/have a good grade. I was also made to take Religious studies, until the age of 16 (but I didn’t mind, we were all in the same boat) we focused most on Roman Catholic/Church of England, but we did learn about other religions too but was a big focus on Christianity. There are a couple of things in the video that are worth highlighting: America is so far from the majority of the world - Europeans can spend 50 quid and be in an entirely different country with a different language and culture in a little over an hour. For Americans to do that means several hundred dollars and a 6+ hour flight. Americans get a bad rap for being stupid; it's not stupidity, its ignorance. The American education system seems to focus on America, so many Americans simply don't know much about the rest of the world. There's also a heavy helping of propaganda that America does *EVERYTHING* better than everyone else and is the best country in the world, neither of which is true - there are lots and lots of ways used to address the same problems around the world and there's no such thing as a "best" country in the world; America does a lot of things right, but there are also a lot of countries that do a lot of things better. If all you hear growing up is how great you are, then that's what you believe, and it makes it that much harder to see your own flaws. I've always found that the best Americans I've met are the ones who have travelled outside the US - it's very eye-opening for them to find out the truth about the outside world and they quickly rid themselves of the , "Rah-Rah USA" mentality. With the rise of the internet and ready access to information, video, and exposure to other places, there have been more people like JT who have a natural curiosity and humility, realise things are not quite as they've been told and make an effort to find out for themselves.

Being from the UK, I went to a Church of England school (Christian school), but we learnt about loads of other religions and to pass R.E (Religious Education) we had to write about whatever religion the exam was about, so in my school, we had to write about Buddhism and Islam. As well as this, in history and geography, we learnt about all different countries. History we learnt about history of America, Australia, especially about Nazi Germany and everyone and everything about WWII. Geography we learnt about all different things in different countries, such as natural disasters like volcanoes and earthquakes etc. I think that's roughly the same in many other European countries. I just think it's strange in America you don't learn much about other countries, its mainly just about America.

I’ve dated American, British and European women. Generally speaking, and I do mean very generally, very good looking American and British women are very high maintenance and up their own arse. I am happily married to an absolutely stunning Polish women, with a heart that is equally as beautiful. Like the video said, she does like to dress nicely daily. However, there are no heirs and graces about her. In fact, I find her very modest and self-deprecating.

The whole "American's only learn about America" thing reminds me of one of those sketches of one the Jimmy's (Kimmel or the other one) does, where they go out with a mic and a map of the world and ask American's to point out where so and so country is, and very rarely do any of them guess it. I know they'll cut out the smart ones who do know places, but Jeeze. One guy didn't even know where the US was. There's also another American KZfaqr - Evan Edinger - who's currently living in the UK, and did a video with a Brit talking about school life. Evan was like "I didn't realise until talking to non-American's how much the school system taught you to think that America was the best country in the world and never taught you much about elsewhere". I'm sure he said something like when he was 10 or so, his whole years project was about how much his country is the best and why he loves it so much- every student in his year had to do it. You're indoctrinated into thinking this way as children. In a way it's worse than the likes of China or North Korea who do something similar - at least these countries generally accept that they're doing it and the rest of the world point it out to them. In America no one seems to grasp that this is happening. That would really not fly in Europe. We accept our faults and aim to do better, rather than constantly thinking we're perfect and nothing should change.

Guys, I truly WISH some voice coach would contact you both to get you to attempt a British accent. I would even volunteer to teach you if you are up for it. I have a Yorkshire accent. I love your 4+6 joke and the way you pretended to guess the answer. Very clever. But please NEVER say 110% as we consider it to be used by people of a lower intelligence level as you cannot have more than 100% of a whole. ...oh, and avoid using awesome and super a lot (To be honest you don't say it much, if ever.). You are both very charming and smart and we like that :o) You should create more videos together as you bounce off each other really well. Spread peace and love my fiery friends.

The best Pubs are in Britain. Best sea food is Portugal. Best weather is in Greece. Greek women dress the best are thin and are the most religious. The 4 most common languages are French, English, Arabic & Spanish. We have so many visitors from around the world in the UK you can meet Japanese, Chinese, Iranian, Egyptian, Russian, Brazilian & an Australian all in one bar, the Australians are usually the Bar staff and can out drink anyone. In the summer the Americans outnumber the Russians in London. In the UK we get 4 Hot days a year, and it’s usually the hottest in the south east, between London and Portsmouth.
@JONNYDAVIS123
@JONNYDAVIS123 3 жыл бұрын
Based on your subjective assessment, that would be 4 more hot days than many other countries, which get 0. You're talking about VERY hot 95 - 100 + degree days, which is more like 4 weeks in the south, regardless. Weather jokes are so dead now. You're simply just regurgitating an old, tired stereotype that is neither remotely accurate or true. HOT IS SUBJECTIVE. e.g In most of N. Europe, New Zealand, Canada, there are 0 hot days (ZERO). To somebody from Denmark or Estonia, for example, 70f would be hot, which means the UK would have 6 - 8 months of hot days a year.
@TheWeatherManP
@TheWeatherManP 3 жыл бұрын
4 days AKA 4 Hot Months, if you're in the mid or the south. The heatwaves of V. Hot days in the south can last 4 weeks alone and there's usually a handful of them per year.

It looks gorgeous and isn't showing too much at all (which I could tell was a concern of hers. Bless her for being so modest, :) ) She is also funny and seems really sweet too. DEFO have her in more videos from time to time. Maybe the PO Box opening one's? Anyway, great vibe you have together.. With a little practice you'll get a really good flow going. The chosen video was pish though. Haha!! So bad man. No slight at you for choosing it, but defo the guy who made it needs a clip around the ear.
