Ever wondered how I have my art studio set up? Well, here's your chance to have a look at how I do things, and believe it or not, I have all this set up in a bedroom. So, there's no need for a fancy room, you can do all this on a budget, and still have guests to stay! If you spot anything you think will help my setup, please let me know.
If you would like to learn more about how I teach watercolour painting, this would be a great video to watch next, as you can literally have a go yourself: bit.ly/3ynDKV9

I have been painting watercolor for about 20 years but have not painted much in the last couple of years. We moved out of Charlotte NC and I no longer have access to my wonderful teacher. So about a week ago I went to KZfaq and found you. What a find. You have been a wealth of knowledge. I paint very detailed and prefer to paint birds and animals so thank you so much for all of your great videos. My question is what is the name of the first brush to the left in your line of brushes? I saw in an earlier video on painting fur that you use this split bristle brush. I had problem with your accent (ha mine is very very southern and folks have trouble with mine at times) and I didn’t look at the transcript to see what it was called. You also said in that video that you have a video out there on how to make that brush but I can’t find it so any help would be great. Thanks again for all of your awesome teaching. Karen.

Hi Karen, thank you very much for our lovely comment and of course for following my videos here on KZfaq. 🤗 I have a few videos on here explaining the brush I use occasionally for painting fur, but it is very often buried within a video with other topics as well. Here is a link for you which should give you some ideas. I know, it's my northern Derbyshire accent from here in the UK, that can sometimes be a little tricky for others to understand. LOL Paul 🎨 bit.ly/45S6fMN

Paul thanks so much for your response. Yes I agree it was imbedded in the video and to find it might take a bit of time to find so thank you so much for the link. I watched your video on how to set up your work space. I loved the brush holder idea. We went to Lowes to see if we could find that sponge roller to hold my brushes but they didn’t have it so we probably will have to order it online but that is OK. I can’t wait to watch many more of your videos. Again, thank you for response. Karen

@@karenturner8302 Hi again Karen, you could also use 15mm pipe lagging which is that grey sponge tube and cut slots into it, and I've also heard of people using pool noodles as well after following my 'how to' blog. devonartist.co.uk/my-budget-brush-holder/

@@TheDevonArtist I can’t believe I didn’t think of the pool noodle. I have two at the house that I had bought for a Halloween project. I will use one of them. Thanks again.

Hi Paul, with all the details that you incorporate in your paintings I would have thought that a hot pressed water colour paper might have been preferred because of its smooth texture, is there any reason that makes it unsuitable or less preferable for you?
@TheDevonArtist
@TheDevonArtist 2 ай бұрын
Hi Jim, I've always got on better with cold pressed papers for the larger wet in wet washes, which I find don't take quite as well when working with hot pressed papers. I also like the effect the texture gives to the details. Paul 😀
