For me, having my own Backyard Rc Tracks is the best way to use my RC cars and get practice in to go racing. I started building jumps and tracks as a kid so when we bought our first home it didn't take long to find a place for a track! I ended up changing it into 5 different configurations in less than two years before we moved to a bigger piece of property. Since moving here I've now built 4 separate track that we can run on any given day. This video is a guide to help you build your own RC track using what I've learned building over 10 layouts and 60 plus jumps for my off-road RC cars in the last five years.
Thanks for watching, make sure to hit subscribe for more awesome Backyard RC content!

What a fascinating video! We have just got into the RC bug with two Arrma Gorgons and have a large bit of wooded trash land at the bottom of our garden so seriously considering making something like this. I'm glad you get lots of rain as living in Wales we get rain for what feels like 11 months of the year! so thats why we opted for waterproof tracks lol Top work my man! look forward to watching more of your channel too :D

Very nice track you have there....very creative & professionally done with labour of love....the flow & transition is very smooth. Love the big U curve at the bottom right, is huge and generous and forgiving for the cars to put in more speed at the turn to a gradual slope & be ready for the jump. I think it will be interesting to grow some grass or throw in some white rocks in the redundant pockets/areas to create a better contrast or simply beautify it more? Thanks for the tutorial Jason. 🎄Merry X'mas & a Happy 2024 New Year : )

I've thought about organizing rocks better in between the layout but inevitably I want to change the track at least once a year. Maybe in the future though, but often times maintaining the track is more than enough work to keep me busy... recently reversed the layout, check it out on this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nLChitKb2cvFcYk.htmlsi=MuDcGteEQ1LlCg1g

I got an Arrma Senton 3s 4x4 BLX for my Birthday and I've gone to parks with Ball Fields, Skate parks, still learning how to drive it, but I'm enjoying myself, I've already upgraded the shocks and put Monster Truck Tires on it, had to modify the body so the tires don't rub the body.

@@TheRacinJason Super stoked. I'm making the most of the 18'x40' yard. 4'-5' wide lanes should suffice. Gonna have jumps, sand pit section, and I really want to try to build a mini wall ride hairpin off the retaining wall like the one at thunder alley if you're familiar with it. My grandsons and I have been playing with our Traxxas 1/10th scale cars for a year or so and now we're about to begin racing this month starting as Novices at NORA's Skagit River Raceway...when we're not watching your videos! I have a couple acres of flat, grassy backyard just west of Mount Vernon, WA in the fertile flats near the Skagit River and I'd like to build an off-road track in an area approximately 100' x 150', although there's room for plenty more if needed. I realize I'll need to kill or dig out the grass and then bring in dirt and probably highway tarp as a base. What kind of dirt should I buy? I'd guess that the dirt needs to pack down, like NORAs. Too, I'll need to invent a layout. I like your idea to build an oval, maybe as the first effort, and then hopefully I can incorporate an off-road section into it. I'd love to hear your input on dirt and design features, or a reference where I can learn more.
@TheRacinJason

Thanks for the comment, Skagit is a great place to race. Diehard is a little closer for me these days so that's where you'll find me this summer. As far as dirt goes I'd dig into what you have on property first just to see what it looks like. Diehard is in the valley as well form in Snohomish and Brett just cultivates nice clay right out of what they have, and it's great stuff, doesn't eat tires, good stuff! So that's where I'd start. If that's not an option and you know you want to bring stuff in you could check with Nora and see where they've gotten there stuff. I will say if it's really dry it does wear tires a bit but I think that's gotten better. The Offroad director this year is Shay Goodlund, you can reach out to him on Facebook. Oval is a great place to start, look through videos from silver dollar in Chico. They had some really cool layouts with their oval right in front of the driver stand so you might find some good inspiration there. Other than that check out photos and videos from others. Facebook has a couple backyard RC groups you could join as well. I'd like to come up to Skagit soon to catch a sprint car race and I could potentially come by and see what you have going on... shoot me an email at jason@dirtfish.com if you wanna connect further

I love the oval idea, I envisioned a big complicated track and just realized starting out the oval would be nice training wheels. Our soil here in Oklahoma is red clay, I think I’ll put a layer of sand on top of it and rake itin to firm it up. Opinions?

Not sure on adding sand... wouldn't add too much though. Starting with an oval and then incorporating the Offroad around it is the way to go in my eyes. If we sell and move that's how I'll build my next track! Do love having a 1/10 and 1/8 track separately though

I was reviewing videos to create my track, I want it for a 1/8 Talion and a 1/8 Typhon, that's why I saw that for the jumps they use sugar water, but according to their experience, you have used something so that the track stays with good traction and durable or what does it do for that? and how do you affirm the jumps?. Great video and I will definitely be using a lot of your tips to make my own in the near future.
@TheRacinJason
@TheRacinJason 9 ай бұрын
I personally don't sugar anything because it creates a really abrasive tire killing surface. Especially for jumps I just water and pack them really good. Currently in the dry part of the summer I'm mostly running my oval because it's the easiest to keep water in (smallest)

How do you handle weed control? I have a smallish off road track which I end up spending about a 100 dollars a year in weed killer, which only lasts a couple weeks. Looking for a more permanent solution, or at least one that would last 6 months. Thanks for any suggestions you may have
@TheRacinJason
@TheRacinJason Жыл бұрын
Weed killer... but can eliminate them with raking and brooming regularly. And the more we run the less weeds we have it seems. My 1/10 track with lights doesn't really get any weeds because we run on it all the time. Other than that I haven't really tried other stuff like people talk about soap and other things to bind the track. I don't know if that helps with weeds because I prefer the natural dirt feel and changing track conditions. The bigger track had a little moss on it but I took the broom to it and it's looking good

Really appreciate the video. I used to live in western WA, but moved to SW Missouri a couple of years ago. At our place in WA, I built some crawler trails(property was too steep for a race track), but here I have mostly flat land. I think I picked out a spot in my woods, though, which will be shaded and not too hard to clear(except for poison ivy 😞). Little by little is good advice!

I disagree with your method of keeping rocks and just packing them down as they appear. They will eventually work their way loose again, especially with some rain, and you're just creating a never ending loop of work that could be avoided. Remove as many rocks as you can, period. I've been removing rocks from mine for about a year now and I'm almost down to a clean surface. My only maintenance now is raking up the loose rocks that build up on the edges, which a standard leaf rake works perfectly. I also know exactly what the bottom of all your chassis looks like keeping that many rocks, bare metal, lol
@TheRacinJason
@TheRacinJason Жыл бұрын
You're not wrong... definitley get scratches on my chassis but if I pull 1 rock I usually have to pull 100. So unless it's sticking out and can't be recessed totally flat and filled in around I'm not pulling them right now. I'd love to have less rocks but it is what it is. I can always buy a new chassis. The track lower on our property has less rocks and the surface is mostly clean, but they still appear with rain and running. It's a constant battle but I'm lucky to have a handful of tracks.

@TheRacinJason
@TheRacinJason Ай бұрын
Can always treat them... I personally don't like chemicals on the track so I don't spray for them. When we run consistently and we're cleaning off the track with brooms and doing maintenance here and there they really aren't an issue. But I have had them pop up if we don't run super often. If that's the case I pull them or rake the track and then run. I've also heard of people using stuff like vinegar and dish soap... you could look up recipes, but if you have a clean track keep running on it and you might not need to!
