As a life-long car-modifier, I wanted to say that in general you don't want to buy a "resto-mod" unless you are going to work on it yourself. It isn't that difficult to figure out what modifications were done to a car, if you have a basic knowledge of wiring and the workings of aftermarket engine management, etc. It is however very time consuming. I'm sure Wizard "could" have figured it out, I think he turned the job down because he didn't want to charge you for a very time-consuming job that another shop probably could do with less cost. This just reaffirms my opinion that Wizard is a man of integrity who keeps the interests of his clients in mind. The challenge will be finding another good shop to do the work. So many shops, particularly "race shops" or shops that specialize in modified cars, operate without any integrity whatsoever. If I couldn't do my own work, I would have dropped this hobby years ago.

IMO the best place to start would be pull the entire engine electrical system out, start from scratch. It often takes longer and gives a poorer result trying to figure out what previous people have done.

That FAST EFI is USB , download the software and take a "laptop" and USB Cable to a Dyno with you and that should sort out the box. It has a base tune from the factory. The base tune might not fuel correct for the size of engine in the SuperBird. that would make it lean at idle(possible the cooling problem). Once someone connects to the box it should show connection issues. hope this helps, Thanks for the video.

SuperBird cooling issue. Tyler, have the Wizard check the direction of flow for the SuperBird. Some pumps move the water clockwise, some counter. If the wrong pump is installed, it will never cool well, but at a glance look like all it well. My buddy had a racing pump on his Vette that did this and was difficult to find the problem.

That glove box is a HACK !!! So called “mechanics” never cease to amaze me. I truly hope you get the car sorted as it has the potential to be a very cool ride.

Household wire nuts in a car??!?! Oh hell no! I'd have a shop rip it all out, and rewire it. You already have had so many issues with wiring (things not hooked up) there's bound to be so much more.

Hoovie, as always is very informative. I think taking the bus or bumming a ride is more attractive than having a motor vehicle.

You you 2 possibly have the best team to take 2 channels and bring them together. I say this because on the Wizards side he shows us what a shop can go through on a day-to-day basis & tools used & issues found & the repairs & tricks for big repairs & hovies channel takes the customer side of things as he brings problem vehicles to the Wizards shop either good or bad & hovie some how keeps his composure well when Wizard tells him repairs are 5k or more. I think its awesome that you guys work so well together as a team along Mrs. Wizard interior videos & the shop guys helping in the back ground. Keep up the team work 💪 & stay covid free !

As a teen I tried to buy a Superbird as a teenager many decades ago. The salesman I would kill myself in it and refused to sell it to me. In retrospect, he was probably very right. I was not at all experienced enough for one of these.

Funny thing is. That is a super easy car to work on. Though Wizard deals with newer and exotic cars. So I can understand how this isn't within his wheelhouse. Superbirds, even stock ones, always had issues with overheating. It is due to the nose cone. While moving though it will not overheat. After looking at the radiator I will assume it is a 3 core. If you are going to be idling at a stop I would recommend getting a 4 core for it. Since it is setup for race mode. It will barely run at idle while cold.

Hi Tyler.Thanks for the memorable content. This Superbird has raised the middle of the hooptie bell curve a great deal. How about getting down to brass tacks and aquiring a decent 55 or 57 Chevy Bel Air. Something in that design just boosts my heart so much. It's weird. It's quirky Its.... got to join the hooptie fleet.

The cam in that motor is likely the culprit. You shouldn't need an auxiliary vacuum pump. The stock street Hemi had a lopey idle and was under rated at 425 HP(IIRC), but the headlights worked with the stock cam. Put a milder cam in it (something closer to stock) and it will _still_ have plenty of power for street use. Set the valve lash, too, and it will probably run much better.

Just one of your cars would bankrupt the average guy. You have so many exotic/over the top dream cars a regular guy or mechanic would have to say “Where to we start?” It’s nice to see you are not deterred by the high cost of fixing your exotic collection.

With the race cars I build and work on we use Haltech ECU’s that can learn on the fly. The Holley EFI can as well. However to really get full drivability down right can take hours of tuning. It’s rather easy to tune for power which is what many dyno tuning shops and tuners in general do. Only when your car will cold start, hot start, drive at all throttle positions in various traffic in all weather is your car properly tuned. Anyone saying they can do this in an hour is lying.

Here you go Hoovie, comment I found re identifying the car a little better. All super birds had vinyl tops to conceal the special glass insert. Daytona chargers had unique rear glass to the body (also compare to charger 500 rear glass)

I’ve seen this car since Hoovie dragged it home and I have to say, the more I see those rims, the more I really think they work, especially all shined up. As for all the electrical problems, rip it out and invest in stock wire jig harnesses. It’ll pay out in the long run and be much easier to work on.

I have an XFI system on my buick t type. It took me a long time to find someone to properly tune it. It is a great system. Everyone in the turbo buick world seem to go with Holley nowadays

Lots of people think putting modern high power high tech stuff in an old car gives you the best of both worlds BUT most installers are idiots and they have no clue how to make a car work together - especially amateur home garage builders. Garage builders and flippers put 80% of the car together and the remaining hard stuff goes into a box or gets lost. The more stock and engineered a car is the more reliable and proper it will work. Advanced car builders can mix and match parts from anywhere and with enough work can make the car run right but this comes from years of experience. I think these electric conversion idiots are delusional, they think putting a couple Tesla parts in an old VW will save the world and make them cool but these people are often more dreamers than car people and the vast majority of these cars they built will fall apart and never work they way they intended. I do classic Porsches and I have found when a car comes in loaded with aftermarket parts that runs like crap - the more aftermarket junk I remove and replace with original parts - THE BETTER THE CARS RUN!!!! Most aftermarket parts are just an attempt to sell you something, be extremely critical of aftermarket parts before you buy.

A lot of the cooling is the design of the vehicle. The Superbird/Daytona was never intended to sit in traffic and do less than 60 MPH. It was made to do 160-200 for 500 miles. It has very small intakes, and this was a sacrifice for aerodynamics (hence the name 'aero car'). The only reason the car even existed was for homologation purposes.

You should still continue this build at an actual race shop (possibly a shop wizard can recommend) i love the wizard but i understand his decision because he’s not a race car shop and doesn’t have the experience to work on this car I applaud him for not being cocky and going ahead and possibly messing more up in the process like most shops would do then charge you for the damages they caused claiming it was like it when they got it #WizardsOP #WizardsALegend #EveryoneNeedsAWizard

The Superbird needs a new harness and ECU done properly. The Wizard could do that job and let someone else tune it.

It’s going to be tough with cars that were tuned in different area’s originally because of the specific gas station they went to and temperature and even altitude. Just going to have to retune it to where it’s living and possibly put new plugs in it too.

I would start from scratch. Source a date code correct 426 hemi, get rid of the cage, electrical boxes and aftermarket suspension pieces and put it back to stock. I’m not a fan of the super bird/daytona but the modifications done by the previous owner(s) did not do the car justice by any means…

Nice colour but it works better on that old 911. Would work well in a comedy sketch.

I put an electric fan from an '88 Lincoln mark viii into my "74 Camaro. It keeps the car running at 160. Those OEM fans pull quite a bit more cfm than any aftermarket fan will.

old mopar never loved cold start and they keeps stalling ontill they get warm, i had a 1974 barracuda with a 340 and it was doing the same thing. its an old mopar thing.

Time to send it to Mark Worman at Graveyard cars. Sounds like it needs to be fully taken apart and then put together with correct parts. If it's a real Superbird, and I guess it is, and is a real Hemi Superbird, as you say it is, then contact Graveyard Cars.

The Plymouth Superbird is my favorite car. I’m a teacher and will probably never own one unless the muscle car market tanks. Whenever I see a video about one I always click on it and live vicariously for a few minutes.
