Went to Lost in the woods back in 2001 for BCT before going to AIT at Sill as a 13F (Fire Support Specialist) Can't imagine what it was like in January there! Mine was Oct-Nov and even then during our FTX it got down to -4 and -8 during 2 of the nights. I thought warrior tower and the confidence course were on point till I deployed... That made Basic seem like pre-school, but that's what it's for right lol! Thanks for sharing your experience and for your commitment!

Had a great time at Fort Leonard Wood as part of A-2-10. Only thing I’d say that sucked was going through the line to get the “peanut butter” shot and gas chamber. Very fun 10 weeks!

Yes you are doing medical check and doing some paperwork with civilians like those who you met at meps. You will do all of them at reception don't be shy to ask questions to drill sergeants there

yes, usually 30 minutes or an hour depends on your platoon performance that week

Yes it’s new TRADOC policy, it was found to increase recruit morale and training results. 15 min-1 hour, depends on company performance

I ship off soon and I am worried about the confidence course as I am scared of heights and being unsecured at heights. How far in BCT do you cover the confidence course. I also dont have the best upper body strength or balance.

Wow I went there in Aug 96 till Dec of 96 with AIT. I promise you this it's a cake walk now. Hell There a father that went to basic with his son and he was almost 60 just to complete what he needed to retire. I'm sure you are gonna say the same about classes that come after you.

Any advice about what to pack for BCT? I leave pretty soon but I don’t know how Leonard Wood handles personal baggage, a friend of mine went to Jackson and he basically couldn’t use anything he brought, so I was wondering if it’s the same here?

For me and my battle buddies drill sergeants will ask you to open your personal baggages and empty every items u have in there then they will let you know which ones you gonna put back into personal baggages as far as I remembered that all civilian clothes and items are back inside your baggage and they will store it into the locked room the best thing is to ask your recruiter

Yeah it gets pretty cold. And depending on drill sgts they might not let you wear your cold weather gear like ours did.

1 and you only got ur phone each Sunday per week and sleeping was great, we went to bed around 9 pm or 11 pm depends on our training with drill sergeants

1 exercises aren’t hard gas chamber isn’t that bad confidence tower was ok but waiting for your turn is rough especially how cold it is. But anyone can do it if you put ur mind to it

Fort Leonard wood stopped giving funds to maintain our company and we were the last cycle of company D death dealer we got disbanded and we had less equipments and etc I mean we trained basic exercise future 74D 12B and other logistics units right and it depended on your bct locations and how the units gonna make the civilians into the soldiers we had to do hammer and arvil inside our barracks due to winter storm

wow that gas chamber was weak Did they lower the dosage They were way too happy coming out of there, It's funny I went to basic there alpha 5/10 then 5 years later I went to drill school there, and then 2 years later I was a drill there for bravo co right across from where I went for basic talk about full circle way to easy on them now though, kinda sad to see how brass has cut the nuts off the drill hat glad I'm out
