I enjoyed watching this. I like that you rated CARL AND THE PASSIONS + HOLLAND so highly, I think those are good albums. I also really like Carl Wilson's "Long Promised Road". I really wish the Beach Boys could have completed "Can't Wait Too Long" and have put it on SMILEY SMILE.

I believe Can't Wait Too Long was last worked on during the lead-up to the 20/20 LP, so if it was going to be on an LP, it would be that one. :-)

My all=timer least favorite Beach Boys album is Summer In Paradise. Most of the songs sound like dirges, Mike does the whisper-lead that he did in Kokomo in every vocal. Creepy.

Hello everyone! I haven't been on this KZfaq channel much in awhile. Thank you for the views and comments! I wanted to let you know about my audio podcast on Spotify and other places. I review all the albums, then give my own fan album at the end of each episode. The early albums I take Surfin Safari and Surdin USA and take the best 14 songs to make 1 good album. In later albums, I take good outtakes and take out weaker track. So come and check it out! So far I have gotten up to Love You. If you don't have Spotify, search for Magic Transistor Radio on other platforms. open.spotify.com/show/2wEjZPkF0mw60nKc47jsnE?si=2s-YYkqySc6-RNDBFSQRtw

@@magictransistorradio4933 I don’t think he was inspired by the Ronnettes version. I am a few years younger than Brian and I first heard the students version, and probably so did Brian and Mike. They were well versed in the old doo-wop songs which they eventually recorded like student demonstration time, come go with me etc. I’m so young is in that category.

@@dadaveda He probably knew both versions. But I do know Brian was obsessed with Phil Spector and the Ronettes. Not sure their version sounds like either one. Perhaps the vocals of the Students and the production style of the Ronnettes version.

I have NO idea why people are always hating on The Beach Boys '85 album. That was amongst the top 10 albums of the entire decade. So, why the hate? Is it because incredible songs such as "Maybe I don't Know" and "Getting Late" don't enough like The Beach Boys? Bands are entitled to make different music, you know. They shouldn't be forced to create songs which all sound exactly the same. Anyhow, The BB 85 Album has everything. The worst song on the LP is "I do love you" which is still a good song. The 2nd to worst is "It's just a matter of time" which is very good. And, Where I belong is the best of 7 great songs on that album.

I am going back and reading these. I have no idea why I responded with a laugh! I completely agree with you that the Beach Boys, or any artist should have the freedom to do different kinds of music. I am one who actually enjoys the disco version of Here Comes the Night or being involved with rap, like Wipe Out with the Fat Boys, or Smart Girls by Brian. Just fun. Not meant to be taken too seriously. 85 is an album that also explores different styles of music they rarely did. New wave and 80s r&b. I would argue that Love You was a precursor to new wave. So, Male Ego could have been a new wave hit, in my opinion.

I think Heroes and Villains is solid. But I like Good Vibrations, Vegetables, Wind Chimes, Cabinessence and Surf's Up better. Of course if it was on any other album, would be 1 or 2.

@@magictransistorradio4933 All incredible pieces, with their own incredible level of musical invention, its just to me nothing has consistently stayed so out there and experimental as HV. I get the inflluences for those other pieces, no matter how much of a stretch a lot were, but for Heroes & Villians it's truly just a song from another planet to me. I showed a stoned friend HV, and he actually got creeped out by the song it was that weird and different to him. At the same time, I understand why you place all of those so high, I would have to place Wind Chimes as my second favorite... those vocals in the choatic section, then followed by the simle piano groove is really moving. Either way I am so happy you placed SMiLE as number 1, and Holland and Surf's Up as high as you did, for me this more pyschdelic experimental music is where it is at. I love Pet Sounds, but SMiLE is several levels better to me.
