MS Diagnosis 20 years ago and I still haven’t found a solution for my shoe issue……. My ankles are falling inward and my heels are hurting. I presently wear Velcro new balance and socks. I prefer only wearing smart wool socks as my feet are hyper sensitive to touch. Barefoot or socks are my daily,inside, go to. Thanks for your post here 😊

Thank you for comment. Have foot drop from sugrery as a child. They have given me a brace to wear later in life And being a diebedic insurance pays 80 % for proper shoes. I went to a clinic for orthodics. The sell many different style of good shoes to wear. Over the 5 years they have been a great help to me. I hope you find the right clinic to help you with getting proper shoes to be able to live a full and productive life Clem

I love traveling to Japan and as most everyone knows Japan has a very shoes off culture for homes, restaurants, etc. both frustrating and embarrassing trying to take shoes on/off and then maneuver around without falling. Thanks for your video.

Brooks athletic sneakers or Teva sandals that strap on my foot are my go-to shoes. I've given up heels because my balance is bad enough it isn't safe to wear them and if the shoe isn't strapped to my foot I have a hard time wearing it as well.

Thank you for your video. I have chemo induced paraphernal neuropathy and I have really serious foot drop. I've never had many shoes but now I only have 1 pair I can wear (New Balance walking shoes). I use to wear Crocs but I just can't anymore. They are to heavy in the toe and not secure enough to my foot. I can't wear my hiking boots, to heavy. I need more shoes and I think I need to look at running shoes for the light weight and support.

I worked for a podiatrist he always insisted his patients wear shoes with 3-4 eyelets and firm laces. I wear converse old school

Foot drop from my foot neuropathy causes me to fall often. I finally realized it was from my Skechers shoes that have a rubber molding along the bottom at the sole which extends in front of the toe area too. So when my foot drops a bit, that rubber area at my toes sticks on the floor keeping my foot from going forward but not my whole body and down I go. This keeps me from wearing running shoes too that have that rubber lip from the sole to top of toe. I'm now looking at shoes that are comfortable but no rubber soles. It's better my foot slides instead of getting stopped by the rubber at my toe.

Hi Sara, thank you for this. I thought I was the only one who had such shoe issues. I can’t walk without shoes on. My go to are Easy Spirit Traveltime. Although the ones I wear are a clog type they’re very snug and hold my foot tight, which seems to be what I need. If I’m out of bed, I’m wearing them. All the best.

Hi, Sara. Thanks for you posts. I, too, have to wear shoes I can tie and my go to brand is Asics. I prob have about 5 pair! I also use orthopedic insoles to make my feet more stable. I always have a cane in the car, usually a fold-up cane I purchased at Walmart. I use a big rubber band to keep it folded because the velcro strap that came with is is so noise and if I am going to a movie or concert I don't want that sound!
@SaraslivingwithMS
@SaraslivingwithMS Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion! Does your ankle turn and the insoles stop that from happening? I used a wrap around my foot/ankle and that stabilizes my foot otherwise it turns when I try to walk.

My sister bought me slippers that have a sneaker bottom but it's a booty slippers so my foot doesn't slide out they are from LL bean I can't walk barefoot anymore or wear my sandles which makes me sad. I miss my wedges. I find the light sneakers with the air back helps a little bit

I like my vionics too. I have to be super careful on smooth floors with just socks so I don’t slip. I can no longer wear any type of shoe that isnt attached to my foot because I can’t keep it on.

Hi Sara, Thank you for talking about shoes. I have been dealing with MS for 23 years. It has always been a hassle trying to get shoes that would work with different braces for FOOT DROP. (I have thrown many pairs in Salvation Army bins) Right now I use a New Balance running shoe. They are light weight ght and hold my braces in place. For slippers I use the New Balance VELCRO casual shoes. I had the same trouble with slippers that you did. I like the VELCRO at home because my hands have trouble tying shoes. I only use my tie shoes for going out and about. I know if I used Velcro all the time I would forget how to tie my shoes.

I have heard New Balance running shoes are light and comfortable, but I have not tried them. I have donated a lot of shoes too! I don’t have a problem tying, but if it doesn’t tie my foot struggles to walk and stay inside of the shoe so at home I just wear socks. I would love a good pair of slippers I could wear.

Does anyone else find that they walk better without socks on? I like a lightweight sneaker that doesn't have a lot of bulk at the bottom. It's almost as if I can grip the ground better and i feel like my balance is better as well.
@SaraslivingwithMS
@SaraslivingwithMS Жыл бұрын
That makes sense, for me I do best with socks only, lightweight sneaker is definitely the way to go for me as well. I am super picky about the kind of socks that work, it’s frustrating, lol I wish I could just wear socks every where I go.

@@SaraslivingwithMS I have drop foot from having a TIA three years ago. My toes curl under and my big toe is especially an issue. Trip and catch myself often. I need tie up shoes also. Do you have any thoughts on LORAX PRO, Non Slip Hiking Footwear? They are apparently very thin and a close to nature feel. Thank you for any thoughts you have. I used to walk miles a day for health reasons. Now I at least try to get in one mile inside the house.

Barefoot is easiest. My feet and lower legs will get more numb with socks and shoes. Sandals are the most comfortable shoe I have, but they just broke because they are older. They did have the back strap around the ankle. Not flip flops, could not wear something I have to work at keeping on (neuropathy).
@SaraslivingwithMS

I can’t go barefoot because my feet are clammy 😳 and they stick to the floor lol so it makes it harder to walk. I have to wear socks. Luckily socks and shoes don’t make me numb. I can wear Birkenstocks when I am sitting outside in summer as long as I don’t walk to far with them on. Have you tried that brand? Super comfortable

@@SaraslivingwithMS not yet for the Birkenstocks. I know someone with Sjogren's that only wears those sandals.

Around the house on hardwood floor and tile I find sheepskin slippers that have sheepskin soles are the best because I can drag my right foot/leg. I got some from Eddie Bauer a couple of years ago but I don’t think anyone makes any anymore. I’m not looking forward to the day when these wear out. Outside, I have some old Costco Ugg boot knock offs that have just a pretty flat soul so I can walk and drag my foot/leg along the pavement. I don’t want any shoe soles that grip the ground too much because I cannot lift my foot.

I need very strong rubber outsoles preferably with a high platform. Any kind of shoe with memory foam puts me off balance.
@SaraslivingwithMS
@SaraslivingwithMS Жыл бұрын
That makes sense with the memory foam. Why does a high platform help? Is there a specific shoe that is your favorite?
