I love the fact that Tula has her glow-up and bettering her life BEFORE she official meets the guy and falls inlove. she worked on being happy with herself and a job she felt more comfortable in and even took college classes to better herself. then once she had her groove going and practically glowing, the guy sees that and thats when they fall inlove. that's definitely a positive message for women out there. you can't just wait for a relationship to be happy. work on bettering your life and being happy with yourself first and usually the rest will fall into place.

My roommate and I will say, " Why you want to leeaaavve me?", any time the other leaves for work. I'm half Greek (father's side) and I can say this is 100% factual. Luckily, I love being considered Greek (the family will take any excuse to make sure "you" are Greek too.) When I was 10, I was playing with my best friend (Gus. also 10). His mother, who was a distant relative-and Greek, of course, asked my parents if they were willing to agree for Gus and I to be engaged NOW, and we would get married when we turned 18! My dad seriously considered it, but my mom put her foot down. The thing about the women becoming a baby machine was very true, and she knew I wouldnt be happy in that role. 40+ years later, I'm single and happy. Gus is married to another Greek woman and has like 3 daughter and 1 son, and he is very happy as well

My husband comes from a gigantic family and while he's not Greek, I definitely felt like Ian when I met his family. Just on his mom's side, he has over 100 first cousins and he can rattle off their names without blinking. When we were planning our wedding, we had to curb his urge to invite every single relative. My mother said, "any aunt/uncle who is single can bring 1 cousin as their Plus 1." And his relatives have tried to feed me weird foods full of mayonnaise. Greek weddings sometimes include the custom of breaking plates or glasses, which is known as plate smashing. The tradition may have originated from an ancient practice of ritually "killing" plates to celebrate happy occasions. It may also symbolize new beginnings, as the couple is leaving behind their old life and starting a new one. The tradition of lifting the bride and groom on chairs during the horah, a celebratory dance, is a Jewish wedding tradition. The chairs are placed in the middle of a circle, and guests lift the couple above their heads. The tradition is part of entertaining the bride on her wedding day. The actress who played Tula costarred with Toni Collette (the mom in "Sixth Sense") in 2004's "Connie and Carla". For Pride Month, you should react to it. It's a wonderful fun film, as good as this film was.

Another small budget movie (that is definitely worth watching) is a movie shot entirely in black and white from the 80's is called "The Elephant Man", with a very young Anthony Hopkins. One of my favorite small budget movies. Heads-up, be ready to cry a lot. I watched a galley full of sailors on the submarine I was stationed on tear up when we watched it.

‘That’s OK…. I make lamb.” I friggin love Andrea Martin as Aunt Voula. You guys should definitely check her out in the little seen Robin Williams movie Club Paradise. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a reaction to it and Andrea Martin kills it in that one too! You two are just charming. You’re great reactors, but the wonderful curiosity you bring to your reactions is a breath of fresh air. Keep up the adventures! Opa! ❤❤❤

Great reaction to a funny and heartfelt story & movie. FYI, the very old Greek tradition that requires wedding guests to “spit” on the Bride and Groom, of course is pretend and they are not literally spitting. But by pretending that they are spitting on the happy couple, by doing this the guest is protecting them from evil spirits!

My nephew was baptized is a Greek Orthodox Church (my SIL is Romanian and the Greek Orthodox church was the closest thing to Romanian Orthodox church in our U.S. town). At one point, the priest and the godmother went towards the back of the church, read some Bible verses & spit on the floor. She explained the spitting is spitting on the devil, I guess to keep the bad luck or evil away.

I love my Greek family-in-law. I am in contact with them even more than with my own family. I feel right at home in Pireaus, but also high in the mountains in yjayia's village. "Fakes, agori mou?". 87yr old, tiny, cuts a huge pumpkin with a butcherknife and a hammer. While smiling and telling stories. We married on Salamina Island, Tsipourou and Zeibekiko all night. I became Nonos of a beautiful girl. I actually learned Greek for my family-in-law, trough TV shows and many questions. If you're in, you're really "In". Friends included.

Nia Vardalos, who played the lead, also wrote the movie, which is loosely based on her marrying her non-Greek husband. Michael Constantine (the dad) has been in a lot of things. He used to be on a lot of sitcoms and briefly had one where he was a judge.

Asia, you confused the actor who plays Ian in this, John Corbett, with the actor who plays the stepbrother in Clueless, Paul Rudd. This is based on the true story of Nia Vardalos who plays Tula, and her real-life husband, who appears in this movie as Ian's friend. This is a great feel-good movie, glad you enjoyed it!

Andrea Martin (Aunt Voula) is often on Broadway, and she’s hysterical. The line where she asks “Ian” to touch his hair was improvised because she forgot the real line. She’s a very funny grandma character in the film “Little Italy” where she’s playing an Italian that time… that movie isn’t nearly as solid as this one, but I like it.
