Wow! That some impressive machinery. I just bought a Phillips reel to reel, my first in 40 years since mine died when I was 17. I had it when I was 8 so I sought of grew up with it. At first I argued with myself over being nostalgic and how I couldnt justify buying another one. You know what? Im glad I didnt listen to myself. It was like having an old friend back and after I played about recording stuff I realized.....there is nothing like listening to music off a reel to reel. Looking at some of those machines I bet they sound fantastic. I would be locked in that room for weeks trying them all out. Many thanks for posting. An impressive collection.

Recapturing elements of my youth, collecting vinyl/LP’s again, rebuilt a 50 year old Thorens TD125 MkII turntable, found a “deal” on a broken Revox A77 Mk3 I rebuilt, recapped, and, in a curious twist, recorded an original issue LP of Fripp and Eno’s “No Pussyfooting” onto modern high-density 2-track audio near-perfection. One of my long-time favorites, the LP was recorded in their studio (as was much of KC’s and Fripp’s and other performers’ music) onto what may have been this exact same model deck. What amazes me is the depth, overall tone, presence “sound stage” of the tape vs LP, especially when compared with digital recordings (which I’ve relied on since my first CD player in 1985). Even with the tinnitus, there’s just no comparison. I now have another A77 (4-track), and am reworking two B77 RtR’s, a 2-track HS and a 4-track NS. Will likely sell the A77 models, buy more tape medium to transfer more of my LP’s. I have to say I am thoroughly impressed with your collection, and the music selection was perfect for the video. Thanks for sharing.

Totally incredible. I have six reel to reels, Akai, Phillips, Grundig. Also a couple of radio sized battery models. The phillips can be prone to belt rot over the years. I have always adored this format, and got my hands on my first at the tender age of 11. As I grew up I never liked cassette, and I stuck with these as my recording format right up to the minidisc era of the late 90s, where i believed the recording quality finally superseeded it. I never parted with any of mine, and the y all still work. Awesome.

What a fantastic setup you have. I'm green with envy of course! I've owned a 1964 mini reel for a bicycle, 1972 Sony 630, a mid 50's Phillips mono player and a 40's wire recorder that actually worked with dozens of old commercials from a radio station. Mine was for more practical reasons, but you are one serious collector!

So, you have the collection but lack the equipment? The primary reason I haven't pursued beginning a collection of these gems is the seemingly prohibitive cost of the media relative to the vinyl counterparts.
@milan5571
@milan5571 4 жыл бұрын
@@mechantics hey nicholas, don't let that stop you, the media costs nearly nothing. Most of the times i get my tapes for free with a tape deck I buy. Only the very good 10" metal maxell-reels you can find for 20 euros ( 198 min ), which isn't all that expensive too.

I once had a big Philips N4506 as shown at 0:23, and an Akai GX-270D. The N4506 was great for its many recording options including adding smooth fade-out on existing recordings. The GX-270D with autoreverse could fill the room for 3 hours on end without interruption using carefully selected music on a tape. I've gone all-digital now, but the former tapes live on as playlists for a collection of flac files.
