Have you ever had a deer get poached that you were after?
@keepinitreal7991

Yes. Couple years ago. Walking out to my stand and seen him laying with his head up. Thought he was alive and for a second started to stalk. His head was up against a tree. He had been shot thru the guts with a 22.. betting he suffered a great deal

I'm not sure if one I was after has been poached. But I have had 2 giants, one pushing 190", get hit by vehicles. Real bummer.

I moved into the "Giant Pyramid" unknowingly but soon realized it when I'd pull in at night and discover a herd of deer in my front yard. Very frustrating especially after ya set in the Woods 400 yrds. away for hours freezing 🥶 😫! Regardless I never resorted to illegal or unethical means but several other guys were more then happy too. How I found out was sounds of gunshots at night not far from my home. Then one night I pulled in after we just got several inches of snow and my whole front yard was deeply scarred with truck tracks! Yeah these Bastards were so crazy they drove into my front yard to try to hit these bucks. I couldn't believe it and I felt very threatened because they could've hurt my Children,Wife! So I ended up calling the Game Warden and they caught them. One buck was 150 Class and the other one 170 and I'm sure there were more. Come to find out the creek behind my house was a Rut funnel. Anyway,I know it can be tough but just keep plugging away and trying and everything will eventually come together. Good luck & God bless!

I couldn’t agree with you more. It’s unfortunate that so many people turn hunting into a competition between other hunters. I see it as a challenge between me and that animal, an adventure, a chess match between me and him. He’s going to beat me 9 times out of ten but that’s what keeps me coming back for more. Thanks for sharing your content. I’m hooked. Good luck this season.

Honestly that has been one of the downfalls of the big antlers movement in hunting, everyone wants a giant and some guys will go so far as doing it out of a vehicle at night just to say they got a big buck. Totally agree! The hunt and the chess match are what make it so enjoyable!!! Thanks for watching and following along the journey!

This is an awesome message! Very well said, we owe it to ourselves and all Sportsmen to practice fair chase. The pursuit and the harvest, is the most exciting part of this sport, and keeps us going year after year. I am thankful for every harvest and sacrifice so I can continue doing what I love. You have to put in the work to get the reward out of every type of harvest. It’s about the memories made and lessons we learned from the pursuit.

Great video and message! 9 years ago I gave away all my mounts, whitetail shoulder mounts, antelope, a couple walleyes, a couple salmon, European mounts, perch, trout… I’ve been giving them away since… bear skull and claws from a 400lb chocolate I shot this year, a 3 and 4 year old I harvested this year… In the hunting camp I was raised in, the trophies became more important than the relationships and the experience. Hunting in that toxic environment taught me that while I still enjoy harvesting mature animals, the only things I want to reguard as trophies in my life are family. I treasure my time alone with the creator in the woods and my trophy wife and my kids. It’s a bit ackward at times when guys show me pics of their trophies on their phones and I don’t have them but I know, I know…

When I was 19yrs old I had spotted large buck run across Hwy right at dark next day was day before opening. It was raining and was quiet scouting. I had my bow with me and happened on this buck bedded 20yrds and he had no idea I was there. I sat and watched him awhile counted near 20 points. I snuck out shure I'd get him next morning on his way back here. Next morning he was seen at 100 yrd and not again. Shot a 135 in 8 in November then started bird hunting. Going out I spotted the big buck I was after earlier doe was coming right at me. I had bow with me. I stopped truck got bow out and stood by truck they crossed 25yrd in front of me. At full draw on him he stopped looked my way and walked on with his girlfriend. I couldn't do it he was right there so easy. Well it was worth it. I didn't do a wrong and I got that rack any way. I found sheds in Turkey season. So doing right will pay big in the end. I'll never get rid of those sheds want to put on mount some day.

I was hunting Hickman Co. TN and in blackpowder season I found him on a Thursday. As I sat the edge of an old pine thicket rt up on top of a l ridge from a big creek bed. Killed a big 7 pt year before no brow times and 1 broke off on left side. As it got daytime 3 big does came out about 50 or 60 yards to my left. Perfect chip shot. All of the sudden I hear a grunt and then stepping out of the thicket was Ole mossy horns. He walked rt out beside this Ole doe and was eating across. Now I got 4 deer 35 to 50 yards poping across and I'm bout to shake myself out of the stand. I put my gun on the top of his shoulder and sat on him seemed like 15 20 mins. I couldn't pull myself to take that shot knowing it was my 1st morning had that evening fri sat Sunday. So instead if taking that shot I passed and didn't see any sign or deer - theone lil 3pt Sat morning. Sat evening I went to the backside where I killed my 1st 2 deer of my life" bam bam with a 742 rem 30-06. As I was walking back toward a powering I came across a rub line and found 3 big scrapes with what looked like slide marks on this losing rd with a cross road and there was 24 rubs some big ad my leg. Talk about fired up. I drive back to Nashville and stayed with my brother and he was comeinh back with me . Of coarse I couldn't sleep. Got up and made the works bis gravy eggs bacon and coffee for my bro. Dont drink it myself. Started waking him at 3am was about ready to cut at smoke pole lose on him when I finnally got him in the truck to head out like Dale Earnhardt comeing from the back a Talladega. Sry for the long story but it all has to be told. Do finnally I get there. Let him out where I was hunting cause when I went and got my stand to move I had seen 3 groups of deer 1 had 6 1had 4 2 bucks and the 3 pt was almost sitting on my stand eating acorns. I fly around and its starting to Crack lite coneing down the big ravine of coarse there was a big tree rt across the road and 5ft bank on my rt side and big drop off on left 15 20ft. I try to figure out sone way to get around it but with no saw no rope to drag it was impossible. Just bought a new Toyota 4x4. As I thought if I go back and the other way gonna be 30 mins after daylight and hunt would be over. Well I looked n saw a lil opening in the branches of the fallen tree. So I locked my hubs and secured my gun so I wouldn't knock my scope off and played daredevil and went to jump this thang. "THIS BUCK WAS GE BIGGEST ONE ID EVER SEEN" So when my front tires grabbed the big tree in 4wheel drive well I didn't jump it slung this tree back on under my truck and the big limbs turned and busted rt into the extr cab if .y truck knocking a dent from behind my passenger door all down the side of my bed but I had made it past the rd block. By now it just lite enough to see through the woods bout 50 to 80 yards. I cross the creek and start up the hill wher the power line crosses the rd an my tree stand was at. You could see my area from the rf at that angel about 150 yards away and of coarse I've gotta look starting to run was horns and it looked like a elk this monster runs parallel to the powerline and jumps off the bank rt in front of my truck standing in the rd tho Hoss turns and looks at me like I'm the man and walks on of he rd down a lil ditch and started up the holler no more than 25 yards rt now. I grabbed my smoke pole and got it capped after dropping the 100 out of the lil round thing they come in. Well 93 I guess cause I got 1 and had shot a few.Ike mossy horns just waking up the mouth of the holler just turns looks and goes to his left up a lil point and starts eating across. BINGO I thought game over. Stuck that CVA out onto my window rest and lined up the cross hairs and bout that time he looked back at me and I slid my gun back in the window and watch the biggest deer I had ever saw start trotting back down into the holler mouth then drop his head and move fast . Then I saw the 3 does to our rt on the hill and there he went along with the vision I had had since I found all the sign and moved my stand the day before. I had shot him probably 3 or 400 times since then. I get to my stand and there wS a 4x4 scrape 7 brand new rubs all with on 15 yards of my stand . The scrape was in the logging rd rt in front of my stand no farther than 7 ft. I sat long as I could3 1/2 4 hrs maby got so over it 1 a guy walked up on the property beside ours and walked the fence lineage sat down on a white 5 gallon bucket. As I got madder and madder I figured I might as well go shoot my brother and scare the 4 does off that are walking up the lil cut towards this jack a__ that has sat 70 yards from my stand and cut me off not really pYing attention to the other holler where I had killed my 1st 2 deer. There was a lil 6pt and a doe comeing in rt to me when I chucked my top part of my climber it looked like a petting zoo. What I didn't see in planning my brother's tragic accident was there was 3 bucks following the does headed towards Mr Bucket and a good buck behind the lil 6 pt I had rt up the rt side of my stand. He may have seen the deer in the thicket before I could've got a shot but I'm sure one of he 11 or 12 would've been in range after he shot. It was smoke pole season.

Well I got my brother and dropped him off in Nashville and headed to Knoxville. On my way I planned my escape from work because opening day was Sat morning and Ole boy way definitely gonna be there. As I got closer to home I thought well only bow season was open and the following week was open I had a eaither sex tag for 2 does so instead of being sick from work cause I wasn't in the stand I would be sicker because I always took off Monday- Wednesday that way Thanksgiving week I was off Friday through the following weekend so I had a plan and couldn't wait. I was spending every second of my time in the woods. I take off and head out Friday morning. Ready to get after it because I had sat through Thursday then I was coneing home and getting my smoke pole and getting back after it for the 2 deer eaither sex smoke pole season. I get my stand hung and go to the front side of the property and where I parked there was a logging rd that went down through the woods. I saw a rub line like no other. It looked like it was borrowed from a moster buck from Saskatchewan Canada about every 10 ft there was a tree rubbed big as my leg and peeled bald. Now as if I wasn't fired up enough from my week long strategy of how I'm gonna slip shuck this Ole Mossy Horns and Have him on my tailgate for the trip home. I go to the store at the foot of the hill shot the breeze and got my fresh ground country sausage for my breakfast and said anybody check in any big ones this week while I was gone during bow season, wondering if there chasing yet. And the old guy said that this guy killed a monster " man that thing had a 261/2 inch inside spread and its tines were all long as heck. My heart sank cause it was sounding an awful lot like Ole Mossy Horns. Big body , man that sob dressed 196pds bingo the just for sure I said did it have bout 12 inch brown tines they were 14 and12 1/4 what you seen it crossing the rd to I said nope not T the top of the hill at the power line yea yea ats where he you know ats private property and I'm the only one who has permission to hunt there. Man them locals went fron being my buddy as they had the past 4 years to not even knowing I had been in the store ever. No he killed it rt here past the store bout 300 yards. Well I done knew better n said thanks and just looked at the pictures of my dreams from the past 8 days n notes and was just in awe. He was 196 pounds dressed out had a 26 1/2 inch inside spread and brow tines that were 12 and change and 14 inches respectively and his rack was white tipped and chocolate bottoms where he had just been rubbing and not really got the bottom rubbed good I guess. I walked out and thus farmer I had talked to several tines because his place was rt down off the hill from the land I had permission to hunt and didn't wanna ever have any problems with them and actually shot a nice buck his brother's son had shot in juvenile and he hit it in the front leg and brisket just in front of the heart, and Monday morning I was in my stand and saw it wLk down the power line cut could tell it was hurt didn't know what 2as up and when I got down I stalked over and it was laying there and barely got his head lifted as I put one in him to polish it off. He said " that Ole boy shot that deer at BC's place at the top where you park at. They had been seeing him cross the rd at or around daytime every morning. He stopped and just sat in the truck waited he crossed rt before lite and shot it rt at 1st lite. Well shit it before I got to my stand. Friday. Tild me he was sitting in his buddy's truck sat morning before last when I found him on the back side and they watched him chasing does around in the flat at the crossroads where I saw the sign and had my stand at. He was watching and a big 9pt came across the rd rt in front of there truck and those slides I saw were where him and that big 9 were fighting. He said they tire up all kinds of heck for about 30 yards. Yep thats that mystery solved. Told him bout Sunday and my week and he laughed that was his buddy he owned the property next to where I was hunting on the backside and said some sob had slung a tree stand and made more noise than a heard of Elephants leaving the woods spooked that big 9pt and bout 8 more that were feeding rt to him. We laughed and I told him to let his buddy know I was sorry and would hunt the front and let him have at the big 9 solo. There were plenty of great deer left around there and one big 9pt. So I climbed up my stand and waited on daylight. 45 .ibs after good shooting lite 6 slick heads came out of my pine thicket and fed my way. Bout 35 yards I said big doe bout to cut this Ole Smoke pole lose on ya then I heard the same except it was ba ba ba ba grunting every step and talking bout excited I swung my gun slowly and out stepped the lil 6pt walked rt in to 15 maby 29yrd and click. Nothing put another cap pew just the cap and this time the lead doe which was under me looked up and swung around and they all hauled the mail back across the ridge towards my truck and towards the power line and where it crossed the rd and the farmers place. Bam Bam Ole semi-auto 30-06 rang out n I thought we he dusted that Ole 6pt. So you can imagine how I was about to sling my smoke pole quit hunting and then sale all my hunting gear except for what would keep me warm crappie fishing in winter. So I get my reload and put a little powder in the nipple just in case and got me another cap and settled in for what I had decided was gonna be my last 3 hours of Hickman Co til December 2 deer eaither sex hunt. Bout 20 mins I could hear what sounded like a deer rubbing trees and making a scrape in the pine thicket in front of me bout 40 yards or so . Then I see movement and xomeing rt out wher the Big 7pt came out of the pined stepped out a 6pt no brow tines probably 6 or 7 yrs old sagging back big gut thick chocolate horns probably 160 to 180 dressed out and walked rt under the tree i was in and started eating acorns. I sat there and kinda got a smile and was like heck yea not a bad consolation prize, the Old Monarch started walking back to the thicket and bout 25yrdd turned toward my truck and stopped broad side and picked up a acorn andstarted chewing. I thought he is gonna run rt to the truck if he don't hit the ground rt here and I can just pick him up and roll out. Wellhead is your sign, put the cross hairs on his neck and thought neck shot drop him and game over then Mr doubt said the luck you have had so I slid you cross hairs down behind his front shoulder and click pow just the cap. Grabbed another pow cap pow another cap bout now he was waking hurried towards the ridge my truck was on still 59 yards no problem. Packed all more in the nipple capped her and steadied the cross hairs and clic started to bring my gun up and KAPOW blew the leaves off the tree he was under bout 4ft above his head. Well the leave shower got him gone in a hurry. I'm ready to shoot myself and decided to leave and go to Scott Co where I usually go during big gun and bow season. I load my gun back after I sat n get a dip and drink pick a knot one tree bout 40yrd cap it pull the trigger BOOM busted that knot dead center and really wanted to sling it then. Get down back at my truck here is the ole farmer. Man I guess you made up for that Ole bigger with numbers cause I know you didn't get that Big 9pt. I'm like damn sure going to Scott Co now did your buddy get him . No I figured you missed him this morning but it didn't sound like you were using at smoke pole didn't sound much more than a 30-30 but I figured you shot down the other way. After I heard you shoot 6 does a 6pt and that Big 9 came rt down the hwy and across the power line instead of crossing the power line and going to the back they came rt down to my field and I decided to sit in my barn this morning and see if I couldn't get one with everybody being out they usually push some that cross the hwy and into my field. The 9 came down to 40 yards and that Ole 06 put one on him . He hit the ground and I swung around and pulled one of your tricks and busted a doe. Bam bam2 down.then I got the tractor and loaded them came up here and was gonna come help you cause I heard you shoot again when I was getting in to go to the checking station. Then when I stopped here I heard you shoot again. I figured you needed more powder n bullets, a couple of my kill tags or definitely a hand cause you done some shooting LOL. He had a big chuckle. I said man I really appreciate you taking the time to come and help me would you care to read help me out sure he said well then shoot me in the head and drive me down an Ole logging road and get them to fill my truck cab full of cement and intomb me . Whys that he said cause I missed that lil 6pt , didn't ever see the Big 9, missed a huge Old 6 pt no brow tines that was almost as big bodied as the big 10 pt they shot from the road and I missed hum from about 20yrds and 50yrds.

So I got no backstraps or any Horns. The reason I had to tell this whole story is because of me sitting on stand and putting in the time , planning my strategy and missing the times I missed what I got by not shooting the Monster 10pt With a 26 1/2 inside spread and 196pds dressed out wasn't a wall hanger but memories that will last me a lifetime and I'm sure alot longer after my kids and nephew's tell this story about how their crazy dad or uncle or buddies friend got the chance to hunt a true Monster Buck and did all the rt things and could have pulled that trigger and then what would I had.. As much as I wanted those Horns on my wall I got memories that will last many lifetimes and didn't have to cheat a true OLE MOSSY HORNS to get something on my wall with no story to tell. Much respect, great message. I only have one criticism, and that is the comment, “my deer”. Free roaming, free range animals cross property lines. The animal is only yours once you legally harvest it, if your neighbor legally harvests on their property would you still feel the buck was “yours”? Realistically, if you put a ton of work into finding the buck and only got a few photos, he was probably living elsewhere and just passing through.

I'm just so so thankful I'm a Canadian that lives in British Columbia where 90% of all land is public land. No private timber land with gates like the states, or ever piece of land is private or a park. If I run into another hunter all week I get frustrated. I couldn't even imagine trying to hunt in America, I don't think I even would. With the amount of humans over running all the land down there you hunting would be shit

I chased one buck for 3 seasons and let it pass everytime. (Public land) I finally got very lucky. Using my dad's rifle which the scope was off. I luckily got the deer I chased for 3 and a half seasons. Aimed for the boiler room but got the throat. I got yelled at by 3 hunters for "taking their buck." The 4th hunter I ran into cried tears of joy for me and kept congratuling me over and over again. It was an amazing experience as I had shot it on my birthday nov 19th.

I hunt huge a huge farm in upstate New York. 5 years ago they put an antler restriction in place to raise the age class of deer taken. I shoot some good bucks for my area but last year I had a 160 inch 12 point show up in the swamp I hunt. I had a few encounters but couldn't get him in bow range. Then he vanished only to find out that it was a similar situation to yours. The young boy was 17 and spot lighted him out of one of our corn fields. He lost his daddys brand new truck, his firearm and paid 15,000 dollars in fines. I never got to see him in person. For me around here that would have been the deer of 2 life times. Great story man. I just subscribed.

I put 3 season in on hunting him and let a ton of other big bucks walk bc he was the only one id be happy with. The second year i hunted him he would have been over 200". The third year ppl all over were talking about him bc 1 of the fields he used as along a heavily traveled road. That year as some as he shed his velvet he disappeared. In 3 years I never went move than a week without a pic of him. September 2 was my last pic, our season didnt start until September 28 that year.

I had it happen years ago. I had several close encounters with a buck while bowhunting, but couldn't get a good clear shot. I was headed to a new stand that I had put up the day before with a good feeling about having figured out this bucks travel I found him laying along a pond of water in a gravel pit with what appeared to be a .223 round that went from the rear of his ribs into the far opposite quarter. I am pretty sure I know who did it, but the informant would not give the name. I gutted him to find out what happened and took his horns for rattling. It was the least I could for the buck since the meat had spoiled.

I was reading a crap load of my uncles hunting books while down at the cabin. And believe it or not. A spike buck can give a doe the genetics for a trophy whitetail rack. I don't remember though if the spike had to be the son of Daddy though? But yeah, It's more about the deer getting old, good nutrition and minerals. Once his body's needs are met, it all starts going to that rack. That's why any deer that gets to be 5-7 years old usually has a thick nobby rack. Yeah some obviously have superior genetics than others but you can bet that little spike can knock up a doe, and that little yearling the following spring can grow and become a 225lb 12 pointer. Granted he gets all the minerals, nutrition, and age that is required

Last year 2 older men pulled into my diveway. Told my gf that they just saw the biggest buck they had ever seen cross the road that bisects my property just 60yards from the house. The next 3 days the traffic in front of my house to the area where that deer crossed was crazy. The local poacher/road hunter brigade was out in full force. Had one clown sitting in my driveway. I followed him as he left, and when I caught up with him he was just barely idling along on the road. I asked him why he was parked in my driveway he stated " I don't do good with traffic, so I pulled into your driveway to calm my self!" There were 4 cars parked near my driveway plus the guy in driveway, all waiting on that buck.

I am dealing with this at my house right now. Parking in my driveway and firing up their guns all night long, this is my house. There is a creek in my backyard that the deer use as a highway. The constant gunfire at my house all night long makes it like a war zone at my house.

I just can't understand why even offer a plea deal on an open and shut case like this?! $24,000 would probably have broke them from poaching! A slap on the wrist only makes them be more careful when they commit that kind of crime!

Just this last Sunday was the last day of Kansas Rifle and I couldn't hunt this year due to a back injury that kept me sidelined. But i could still drive around and look at deer and wouldn't you know it 100 yds infront of my stand is a base 12 pointer with a left side webbing drop tine about the size of my hand. The antlers went out about 4 inches on either side of his ears and he had pretty good mass. I'm guessing the deer was around 180 maybe a little bigger and while I was looking at him through my scope setting in my truck on the side of the road of my own property with not a house or person in sight I didn't shoot. Even if no one else had ever known I would have known and it wouldn't have felt the same seeing that deer everytime I looked at it on the wall, It would have felt fake and not legit. I once snagged a bass in the side over 8 pounds and there's no doubt it just missed my lure but I had to do the right thing and turn it loose. Its all about ETHICS... ETHICS ETHICS ETHICS.

I live on private property. I do not allow hunting at my House. Yet, these hunters come less than 5 feet from my house to hunt deer. They fire their guns all night long. So inside my house the constant gunfire is like a war zone. These hunters shoot out of season. In my backyard is a creek which the deer use as a highway. This creek is less than 100 feet from the road in front of my house. I am all for hunting to control animal population that I just do not want the gunfire literally at my house all night long. Police do nothing. Conservation officer does not care. These hunters leave beer cans and liquor bottles everywhere. They break down fences. They tear down every No Hunting and No Trespassing Signs that I put up. It's constant gunfire madness.

I'll have to admit. When i seen the video pop up on my phone. My 1st thought was here we go! Another mad guy that someone killed a buck he was chacing and now he's calling them poachers. But i was wrong. I should not have judged the video by it's cover.whitetail bucks will make a man do crazy things. Things he would never do. I've always followed gods law. And gods law is only kill what you're going to eat. And I've also followed the game and fish laws. Because i want to make sure my son "10"has game and fish to chace. When i was a young man i use to hunt wallhangers to the point id quit jobs to go after a certain deer. My wall has a good amount of mounts. But as i grew older i realized it's not just about hunting wallhangers.i love just sitting out there now. And focus on getting my son involved. That being said. I wish everybody would just follow the rules. Were in this togather as outdoorsmen. It's up to us to keep hunting alive. That's too bad about your buck. Atleast you know what happened and hopefully those guys learned a lesson.
