Where I’m from delivery is recorded by the courier. They don’t leave packages on doorsteps, they put packages at your feet at the door and take photo evidence that you have it so this can’t happen here. That should be standard practise everywhere.

You should proceed to an anti fraud program. I used to work at an e-commerce and we often investigated big orders like this. When is too big, don’t proceed to pack and send as fast as you can. Give it at least 3 days then send it. Confirm the clients info. This way you’ll have less cases of chargeback

I still feel bad for when I placed a charge back on a different small business BUT hear me out. I had forgotten that I ordered from them so I placed a charge back immediately. I realized a day later that I had ordered and so I emailed the owner and asked if there was a way that I could pay for my order/pay off the charge back. and it all worked out in the end but I feel bad for putting that owner through that.

This happens all the time at my restaurant. It’s a small family restaurant so we don’t have any corporate policies and can make our own rule as issues arise. This also means we know or at least recognize a majority of our repeat customers. Now when people do a charge back and we know who that customer is, we pull their info and they aren’t allowed back in the restaurant until they pay us for the bill they did a charge back on and they are only allowed to pay with cash from that point. We only do this if we are sure that the previous charge was done by them and not fraudulent. We’ve lost a few customers bc of this but they aren’t really customers if they don’t actually pay so we are ok with this.

I feel like small businesses should have a website where they can post charge back people's info, so that other small businesses know who not to ship too.

This is why as a small business owner you should ALWAYS include signatures on your orders. (Yes there is a little charge) but then you could’ve disputed it at the bank and got your money back because it’s proof she signed for it and wanted it.

I’d add insurance to the packages. It’s like $1 more. That way you can show she ordered it, it was sent out. And if they claim “it wasn’t delivered” they have to take it up with the post office.

I know placing a chargeback is usually in the customers favor, but what about asking if they meant to place that big of an order if it’s 150+ before it ships out? That way at least you have some proof if they do end up filing a chargeback that they placed it, it’s better than no proof :( idk why people are like that.

Sometimes people do chargebacks because someone stole their card to buy stuff, I’ve had it done to me before where someone stole my bank information by hacking into my bank account to buy up to $900 worth of stuff and even tho it sucks for the person they bought stuff from I’m obviously going to do whatever I can to get my hard working money. It’s not always the persons fault.

I ordered from a small business a a whole ago... the package was "delivered" but I really did not receive it... so I contacted the small business and WE worked together to make a claim against the delivery service for losing my package ... the business did not have to lose money plus we both learned how to to PROPERLY deal with certain issues... the business owner was so appreciative that not only did they replace my order they also sent me EXTRAS! ..... I still order from them and they still send me extras even though they don't have to.

Man I wish small businesses would name these people so they don't do it to other people

I just wanted to let you know if you did not already you can dispute chargebacks. You need to provide their bank with proof of shipping and delivery. I know chargebacks don’t look good on small businesses I worked for one and we would dispute them all the time because if we didn’t we would have gone under quickly because it was a subscription box and before we got wise to giving a grace period for shipping issues people would chargeback if they didn’t get it that day or if they didn’t like what came in the mystery subscription box. Needless to say we did go under because of other reasons but chargebacks are not something the customer always wins especially if you keep good records and follow to make sure they received their package. You could also do like apple and have a threshold where if you spend so much you make it a sign for receipt delivery. So you have record of who signed and when to show for a chargeback dispute.

Here's how you dispute your charge back. Most people say the banks don't care, but they do, you just need to do it the right way. - Gather the "reason for chargeback" given by the customer and Dispute specifically that. They can say anything from "didn't receive order" to "charged twice" or "don't recognize charge" and if you have evidence that's untrue, use it. -Dispute using as much evidence as you can, and categorize it (look up the list of categories online). - Weirdly, having all your docs in black and white only also helps. - Disputing with the bank, a cu, Mastercard, visa, and American express all technically have the same criteria, but are looking for different things, so again, provide as much legal proof as you can possibly gather. - things to provide that may help: proof of purchase / card information/ proof of delivery (big one) / any interaction you've had with them (email, text, etc) including if you've reached out asking why they submitted a charge back (it looks good if it shows you're taking initiative) / charge info (showing it wasn't a duplicate charge if that's what they are fighting for) and anything relevant to their "reason". - each charge can be charged back and disputed up to 3 times each before moving into "fee" territory. Where if it goes back and forth four times, the party who ultimately loses pays a small fine. The cycle stops early if the bank finds one party is clearly in the right and grants a final decision in their favor. This is usually done after two rounds, so keep trying even if you seem to get rejected the first time. - the customer cannot provide more than one reason for charging back and cannot change once they have submitted it. This is your biggest advantage if you have sufficient evidence against their claim. Ex: they claim "products did not match description" or something. You provide the video of you packing their exact order along with the description of each item on your website, and they cannot continue the cycle and charge back the same order with a different reason. Hope this helps

I have a feeling that maybe they bought it with a stolen credit card? I found that every time my card gets compromised the person buys from small businesses. I think they think it’s less traceable? I would bring the name and address of the package/order details to the bank to prevent fraud.
