This was a beast of a route to take on - 608km - and more than 10,000m elevation (that's more than 33,000ft!)
Enjoy. I certainly didn't. :)

I love you statement about the need to explore. That's the biggest reason I ride is to explore. I'm old(ish) and slow, only go about 20-24Kph. Ill be working that up to 25-28kph over this season. Not that I'm looking to be any faster, but so I can explore a little more in the same time frame.

I'm young(ish) and also slow and want to get faster for the same reason! Also to see what my body can accomplish.

Amazing! Massive amount of climbing! I just did a 400 Audax and I also pushed through my fears of riding alone at night. In fact it was magical to see the light fade and then to ride through sleeping villages, just me and the beam of my light.

Welcome to my world Katie. Glad you enjoyed the Burway and Horseshoe Pass (Ponderosa Cafe at the summit) as I type this. Looking forward to the Stiperstones, Asterton and Lawley in the remaining 10 minutes of what was a great day riding where I live and spent weekends hacking over when I bought my Specialized Rockhopper almost 40 years ago. Moel Hebog @04:25? Lovely views through southern Snowdonia as you rode back to Frenchay via Machynlleth and beyond.

I went on my longest ride this year the other day. Only 100k but was struggling towards the end. All I could think of was you on a mega ride with a smile on your face. I slowed down a bit, and just tried to enjoy it. You are definitely an inspiration to me and probably many others. Fantastic effort!

Awesome simply Awesome. You are so inspirational I've finally got back into road cycling in my late fifties and I'm planning on doing the Fred next year. Slowly working up my fitness and had one decent ride since getting my new bike 56k planning to do the same route but going the other way round this Sunday. Riding every day to work just to get the miles in. 10k each way and getting faster up the hills. Thanks again for the inspiration and great content in your videos👍👍

Really good to meet you and ride with you a bit on day 1 Katie (I was the Mid Essex rider on the blue Condor with the bivvy kit). Love the video, it really captures the beauty and the toughness of the ride, and it's great to be reminded of some of the views where i was most likely staring at my stem! Pleased to see you got round OK, I think under half finished for various reasons, so definitely something to be proud of. I got back a bit after you, happy to not see another hill for a week or so 😁

@@KatieKookaburra Bivy worked out really well thanks, my new (Mountain Equipment) pillow made all the difference, and I got about 4 hours uninterrupted sleep at the first bus shelter I'd pre-scouted. There were even public toilets about 100m up the road to have a morning wash :) I was hoping to be a bit further on than 354k for my sleep, but I had digestion/gastric issues most of day 1, which slowed me down a lot, so decided it was sensible to stop where I did, rather than risk bonking on a remote bit of high ground. Day two was much more enjoyable, as I was feeling a lot better and able to eat the calories I needed. Hopefully see you on another ride at some point, appears we're both gluttons for punishment and pick the harder ones :)

Love your excitement as you rode past the woolies and your general love for the countryside! That was incredibly beautiful scenery, and I'm a bit spoiled living in Colorado. If you like to climb and love big, open panoramas, you should ride in the Rocky Mountains sometime. Thanks for sharing Katie... I remember my first big ride... complete accident.... I decided to do a 10K bike challenge..(charity race started at 11 AM... but it really wasn't a race at all) ... well at one point I was coming up to a hill.... and as I climbed the hill I came to a cross road... (10 K was straight ahead) I didn't see anyone straight ahead of me, but to my left I could see several cyclists.... so that must be the way... so I turned left (onto the 50K charity race which started at 7AM) well not until I ended up almost on the other side of the city did I realise... this is not 10K!! I pulled over and asked a volunteer... they told me (it was the 50K circuit). They told me that the turn around point was only two more km ahead. I shook my head and said, "No thanks". I turned around and didn't even go to the finish line... I went straight home. (20 km from where I currently was.) Not Fun!! Memorable yes... but not fun!! LOL

Katie, I was in the same part of Wales as you [ Snowdonia ] walking ..the cycling is really hard in that area , climb after climb after climb , with bends and little chance to carry the speed onto the next climb, really really beautiful views [ think you might have a bit of a thing with how much you like sheep ] thats a really strong ride ..👍👍👍 You rode that sooo well. Take good care of yourself , eat cake , look carefully at the views , smile , numbers are just numbers ..

I think sometimes in cycling, at least for me, there can be like too many numbers in one's head... Maybe it's not the right thing for you, but I myself got rid of all watches and bike computers etc. I feel better just cycling and going with it. No heart rate or power, speed or anything. I just feel my body and try to enjoy the moment. As long as I know where I'm going and how to get back I'm good :) Maybe that won't work for you and what you do but I don't know. Thanks for uploading and all the best

Fantastic effort Katie. I've a ride planned with a friend from the outskirts of South London to Brighton a distance of only about 40 miles or 65 Kilometres though quite undulating in places. Didn't impress my former work colleague from Leeds who has me down as a Southern Softie.

Wow Katie, What an incredible ride. Those hills must be so steep even if you have to walk up them, especially in cleated cycling shoes. Best regards.

Whoa! Amazing! I live in North Wales and the section you mentioned with the sunset is beautiful and so peaceful. Am I right to think it was after Ysbyty Ifan coming into Blaenau Ffestiniog? I enjoy watching your videos. I've not been able to ride since August due to shoulder issues! Watching your videos I cant wait to recover fully so I can get back on the bike. Hope you've rested.

You are something else Ms. KK!! As an Aussie, I'm always astounded by the miles and miles of stone walls. If your ever feeling sorry for yourself, think of the poor bastards that built those walls. Whose best day would be so much worse that whatever struggle you have going on! That said, I'm sure the ghosts of wall builders past would be silently applauding your incredible efforts!!

Some if those people that built those walls also went to Australia and did the hard graft of land clearing and nation building. Tough northern folk.

@@glennoc8585 yes, no doubt. We really don’t credit our early settlers enough for the hardships the suffered and how our lives were enriched in the modern era.
