Hi Sam, been watching a few of your video's. I was serving up until last year and also retired after 25 years. The one thing to note that you may not be aware of is that HMRC will use your pension to off-set the yearly tax allowance of £12570, however they will also class it as a second job which means your tax code will change and once you get a job you will be paying quite a bit more than you may be used to before.

I get my pension into my British account but I am currently in the states and have my wages go into an American account. So I should be ok shouldn’t I?

Hi, Sam! Congrats 🎉 on your retirement, it's pretty fascinating how you served for more than two decades! I have been watching your videos regularly and following em, also benefitted from your videos immensely. As, someone who served in the British army for long period of time. I want some advises and to ask some questions, if you don't mind. - Me personally, I did alot of research on joining the British army as a commonwealth member. I intially thought, to go for as a private. But, thought for a while and decided to join as an officer instead of private as I meet the requirements to become officer such as two a- levels and GCSE from A* to C in Science, Maths, English or Foreign Language and other requirements aswell. Whats your advise for me to become an officer personally? -Is the" lived in Uk for 5 years" requirement still applicable for Commonwealth officers or was it scrapped out for both commonwealth Privates and Officers in 2018? -Does the British Army select or accept commonwealth privates and officers in particular month or season? Or is it all way year around? -If I apply now, how long it might take to review or accept my application? -I watched one of your videos in which you said that British army is currently recruiting commonwealth members in the infantry only not other branches, so it okay if I apply to become an infantry officer? What do you suggest? My apologies for so many questions! I just want clarity, since joining an army would be a very big step in my life and would decide my career and future. Regards,

The application process is taking a long time at present. If possible I would go for Officer and see how you get on.

Info is wrong, from the 1st of October 23 the army has 18 months to notify you of your new pension choices, this is known as your immediate choice, from the date you receive the letter you then have 12 months to make your decision if you want revert back to AFPS 75 or stay on APPS 15. Shouldn't really grumble, that's quite good, a wee bonus at 60 and a top up on top of your state pension too. Don't forget you'll get an inflation increasement every year along with your state pension.

I have had colleagues who have done my job in the private sector and even though they still work and will still be working until their late 50’s they will be leaving their jobs and can comfortably not work again.. so think twice before joining.. and really look into the pension because it ain’t that great
