Magic was sort of the original Lebron. Dude won the Finals as a rookie and was the Finals MVP. We will never see that again. He went to the Finals 9 times in 13 seasons, winning 5 of them. He probably would have gone to even more and won more if he didn 't have to retire early. There is a reason this guy is considered the greatest point guard of all time. His passing was sublime. Fans now think CP3 is a point god? They would lose they damn minds if Magic was in the league right now.

13:20 I saw a video recently, where they were asking several older NBA greats what (in their mind) was their one greatest moment and the one thing they regreted when playing. Kevin McHale had a broken foot, when playing this series. The greatest regret he nentioned was not trying to force Magic towards the baseline, instead of letting him come around and shoot the baby skyhook, which I think was the game winner. But, with his foot McHale just couldn't do it. This was what he answered and it had been decades since he had played. They just don't forget. 🤔😊 You need to watch "Magic & Bird: A Courtship of Rivals." It's worth every minute!

Damn, I didn't even know about McHale's foot but I was confused since there was a reason why Magic openly told an interview that he saw McHale guarding him and instantly said to himself, "Oh I'm taking him" before coming around for that hook. McHale was no slouch on offense or defense, that dude was super tall with freakishly long arms who was the #2 on the Celtics after Bird, so why Magic would say that always puzzled me. Now I know so thanks, brodie. It makes sense now.

The two wise men. Too young to be this insightful. Love to see it! Magic is the reason I fell in love with the sport in 1980. The guy was special. 6'9 with sick handles and a bionic vision. And you're 100% correct about only caring about winning. Magic didn't mind if Kareem or Worthy go the majority of shots and lead team in scoring. As long as they got the W. Stat chasing? Too many cats do it nowadays. Bron is one of them, which sets a bad example. Why you think he stopped playing perimeter defense a long time ago? He prefers to defend weakest player and sit under the defensive basket to gather defensive boards. That's why K. Leonard and Durant called him out cause he wouldn't defend them during games.

Hey magic is the reason I fell in love to. Me & my oldest uncle who was & probably still is a laker fan. Was watching game 6 in the finals. I was a Dr. J fan & seen #32 I asked him who is #32 & he said that’s magic johnson. And been in love with the sport until recently csuse this philosophy of it today is BAD.

@@Bighjr88 I remember watching that same game on tape-delay! Magic was special, and I'm not talking about his smile and charisma. His IQ was insane. Let's not forget that Game 6 Finals game he was only 20 yrs. old. What a difference in eras. Cause he wasn't cocky but very confident that he could play center against Philly's two 7-footers. And man, he wasn't kidding when he told his pops that he was gonna go back to his high-school days and dominate by putting ball in bucket. I know exactly how you feel about today's generic game. I haven't watched a full game on TV since Shaq retired. I can't even watch when League Pass has free games. Back then it was beautiful to watch. It was a team game - everyone had a role, and they played their role with pride. Now everyone wants to score and just go with the isolations. And the fundamentals are extinct, which makes the game almost impossible to watch. At least we have the memories. I was very fortunate to have seen prime Magic, Jordan, Bird, Barkley, Shaq, Hakeem, Iverson, Kobe, Duncan and a whole lot of hardwood studs in person. I've also watched many of today's players in person because my young nephew likes b-ball, but there is no comparison to what you and I "witnessed."

True! When he was still a kid and living at home his mom would have him go to the grocery store and he'd take his basketball and on his way there he'd dribble with right hand and on his way back home he'd dribble with left hand. Nowadays when kids go to the store they have their cell phones on one hand on their way there and the other hand on their way back.

@@mannyneva1760 I can't remember what legendary college coach (I think Denny Crum) was asked a while ago if we'd ever see another Jordan. He said not as long as these youngsters have them cell phones affixed to their palms. Talent better today? That's laughable. I've yet to see the next Bo Jackson, Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, Jerry Rice, Randy Moss, Megatron, Reggie White, Lawrence Taylor, Ronnie Lott, Deion Sanders, Ali, Ray Robinson, Tyson, Ray Leonard, Duran, Hearns, Hagler. And that's just two sports.

MAGIC, THE 6’9” POINT GUARD COULD SEE THE WHOLE COURT & CARVE UP THE DEFENSE BEFORE IT HAD TIME TO SETUP! 5. THAT WAS SHOWTIME! 6. BEAUTIFUL TEAM BASKETBALL 🏀 7. EVERYONE SCORING AT A HIGH PERCENTAGE, NOT LOW PERCENTAGE 3 SHOTS! 8. NO STAT PADDING! 9. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL & I AM A BULLS FAN!

Loved the video Magic is an absolute BEAST!!! but to answer your question I believe that Luka Doncic has got to be the modern Magic Johnson, being a 6'7'' PG with incredible passes. he isn't exactly like Magic which is probably because this is the modern era with a bigger emphasis on the outside game rather than the paint, which you can tell from Luka's game including more outside shooting and lobs into the paint where it's less guarded than back in the day, so I would have to say that Luka is THE modern day Magic Johnson.

@@davelandsman4768 I never said he was as great as him, I did say he is like a modern day magic because he has a *similar* playstyle but also shoots the 3, and since they have a *similar* playstyle and build as well I simply answered the question in the video about who in the modern nba is closest to how magic played, honestly making a useless comment like that is unnecessary, so here's a proper one comment "I think another player who is similar to magic is lebron"

@@JC-po5zy i don’t think you understand how amazing pippen was. Jordan has nothing if pippen is not by his side. By Jordan’s own words… without pippen he’d have zero rings. Pippen is a top 50 anniversary player. Isiah Thomas has a much better claim to what you’re saying and he defeated Jordan like 3 times. Magic had old Kareem who without magic would have 1 ring. He was considering retirement until magic came along. All the other players had others, but it’s not a detractor from greatness. No player does it alone. Pippen did everything so that Jordan can shoot and do what he wants. He did the dirty job so that Jordan can be a highlight reel. Imo you’re completely underestimating how incredible pippen was

Nope with the no look pass. Magic was the best, but it was not "Pistol" Pete Marivich, it was Bob Cousy of the Boston Celtics, the godfather of the fast break. What did the Celtics win with Cousy at point, 6,7 NBA championships? You were told wrong. As a Laker fan lifelong with Magic as the favorite player of all time, I hate to give Boston credit for anything, but Cousy is the one that started the flashy, no- look fast break.
