Please tell me why is it that classical music is so well recorded on CD yet rock & pop sounds generally disappointing?

You've made my day! So much great tunes I was not aware of. Managed to get most in Amazon HD and their Ultra HD formats. And ordered one on vinyl.

Some songs I can recommend: I'm Movin' On... John Kay, Crazy Life... Gino Vannelli, Baby, Please Make a Change... Tom Jones, Steam... Peter Gabriel, Traction in the Rain... David Crosby. All well recorded, some are quite old... the John Kay cut is from about 1973 and Tom Jones' cut is from Hugh Laurie's first album and Traction in the Rain is kinda old too.

I particularly appreciated Joan Osborne. Rich voice, heavy music. Thanks.

Just a couple of thoughts: you gallop through your collection, making comments like "good but not audiophile recording" but on greatest hits and 'best of' CDs surely quality varies according to different sources of the tracks? and you're covering material from the 1950's to the present day, not a level playing field. Then there's the issue of recordings being re-mixed for re-issue or simply for CD release. Remixes/remasters/re-issues are a minefield and perhaps too nerdy to get into, but picking two of your favourite CDs which I also have.... I notice a difference between (the same) tracks on original Sade Diamond Life and the Best of compilation..... and you rate the recording of Tori Amos Into the Pink very highly, I thought it was disappointing compared to the God remixes on CD. Mmmm - and thats what I call REAL REMIXES not just tweaking a few sliders and extending the play time.

For Bob Marley, i am more impressed by Babylon By Bus, the live recording is incredible.

I appreciate each to his own but the thing that struck me about your setup is that you are using bookshelf sized speakers that take up just as much room as floorstanders would, this seems to go against most peoples experience that speakers should be - the bigger the better - as a rule of thumb. I don't mean this in a goes louder way, larger speakers are often more subtle and better at imaging creating a more natural soundstage.

Try Bela Fleck. Their Flight of the Cosmic Hippo album has some INCREDIBLE bass. In general I think it's really well recorded.

Your taste is as rich as your knowledge not just wide covering a good spectrum but truly deep. Great to see an Indian soul beneath such vast body of knowledge and it must be retained as it might not be entire depiction of you since you are a British Audiophile after all but then at least some part of it, keep it that way Tarun. Best wishes for your channel.
