It actually is. MCR were Queen fans and there's many deliberate allusions to Bo Rhap in the video. Compare the piano intro of both songs, and look at Gerard singing on the TV in the hospital room at the beginning, he is looking up with downlighting against a dark background... just like the famous operatic scene in the Bo Rhap video. Also listen to the tone of the lead guitar in Black Parade, that signature whine sounds exactly like Brian May's guitar 'Red Special' in Queen.

I was a death metal guy in high school, and I always talked trash about the emo scene. Then I heard the black parade, and here I am today, at 22 years old, mouthing the words of the chorus even while watching other people react to it. Good music is good music, no matter where you find it.

*whispers* MCR isn’t inherently bad you guys just like to shit on basically anything popular amongst teenage girls. I’ll admit they made some sucky songs but if you look deeper you can see that there was a lot of thought put into their music and the concepts and ideas are beautifully done. Some people just aren’t willing to look into their more obscure stuff and only think of the hits which give a biased representation of the band which really limits their enjoyment. No band has an entirely perfect discography, and every band has a couple shitty sings that we pretend don’t exist. Not to say you can’t not like it, because you’re absolutely entitled to an opinion. You can hate MCR’s sound, their lyrics, or their looks, or just their whole shabang and that’s fine. In no way, however can one truthfully claim this band was/is lazy or uncreative. Even their last and by far my least favorite album (which had so many unappealing songs) was filled with interesting concepts and had several good tracks. And fuck, even if you do (unreasonably) find them lazy, you have to admit that they spread a good message and tried to help people as best they could. You can’t invalidate the fact that this band has had a profound impact on many, and that The Black Parade helped influence a generation.*

The Black Parade is a rock opera centering around the character of "The Patient". It is about his passage out of life and the memories he has of it. "The Patient" dies and death comesfor him in the form of a parade. This is based on singer Gerard Way's notion of death appearing to a person in the form of their fondest memory, in this case seeing a marching band as a child.

I'm not a huge MCR fan but the black parade is a fantastic concept album it's extremely dark touching on subjects of several characters dying and joining the black parade (the after life) like someone thats about to dye at war and the parents saying rot in hell, another about a cancer patient and another about an alcoholics final moments. Everybody says it's the best "emo" album but nah its more along the lines of oldschool gothic/punk and very unique in its own right. One of my all time fave albums I couldn't recommend it enough. Mama is probably the coolest song and imo the darkest.

The Black Parade was a concept album that was based off of a cancer patient who was told he had only two weeks to live. A dark story that came from Gerard Way's (the singer) mind. It was inspired by his fascination with the concept of death and his belief that death comes to you in the form of your fondest memory. In this case, the patient's memory was his dad taking him to see a parade as a child.

There really isn't much to think about, the lyrics and the music video spell things out very well! I personally thought it was a drug addict but it was actually about a young cancer patient thinking about the best memory he had with his Father before he dies, but the Father asked him to be a leader and used the marching band as an example for him to be a leader even in death and to be strong because eventually we all pass on and must carry on. Now the lyrics about the woman I'm not sure, its possibly about his Mother who passed on before that moment with his Father but I'm really not sure.. or maybe it is the Mistress Of Death, some think Death IS a woman. Beautiful lyrics regardless and in the end the cancer patient died and was summoned to the black parade in the after life to lead the lost souls on into the next life with purpose and courage.
