First, Thank you so much for sharing the tribute for Olivia. We have been basically numb the last few days. Such a loss of such an incredible performer and being. As many have said, the world is a bit less bright now. Now for My Cherie, this is our absolute favorite Sheena album. It is pop perfection from beginning to end. We even love the upbeat songs, Even her vocals on the upbeat songs are fire. Too Much In Love has such a great positive vibe to it. Instead of singing about heartbreak, Sheena is singing about the good in love. This is also why we enjoy Next To You. She really sells this viewpoint in our opinion. It's a nice change. We play this album at least 4-5 times a year or more. The title track is our least favorite of all the songs, though we still like it. Thanks for sharing your review. We love to hear your opinion and read the comments.

I’m so glad you love this album! I did LOVE the slow songs on here and the upbeat ones aren’t bad at all, they just didn’t “hit me” like the slow ones did. I’m sincerely humble that you care about my opinion. All of you are the reason I do these videos.

I loved the groove on "Til death do us part." "You've learned to live without me" is my favorite on the album. The only song (that I know of) that was released as a single was "My Cherie." Neither the album nor the single did well and was her last MCA release.

"Dance Away the Blues" and "Please Don't Be Scared" are two of my favs from Sheena. Thank you for honoring Olivia Newton-John. She was an amazingly strong woman and a talented one too.

My favourite overall album! I love every track and never skip. Think I was so relieved she was out of her hardcore r&b/swing jack/dance phase! lol Celine Dion was huge at this time hence so many big ballads. Some big producers & writers on here David Foster, her original producer of the first 3 albums Christopher Neil, Diane Warren...Each album resonates with us differently as you quite rightly say :) Beautiful words for Olivia Newton John

I agree, these upbeat songs are too cutesy for her. Especially that line about the scoop of ice cream… I skip over those tracks. The ballads however, as many have said, is the heart of this album. I go back and forth between Flower in the Rain and You’ve Learned to Live Without Me as my favorite. MCA should have chosen one of these as the lead single and marketed the hell out of it. But, so know at this point in her career, Sheena was not interested in the promo merry go round and obtaining that smash mega hit was no longer the priority. She started her family and that became her focus. I know I was extremely happy for her as she seemed incredibly happy herself:

Nice tribute to ONJ. They shared the same record label in the US and when Sheena moved there, they held a party and Sheena talked about how kind Olivia was to her, offering her support and help. A very special person. As for the My Cherie album, it's probably one of my top 3 Sheena albums. I agree about the uptempo numbers, I hate the title track and the other uptempo numbers are just ok. But the ballads and her vocals are some of the best she's ever done and I listen to them frequently. Interestingly this album reunited Sheena with Chris Neil who produced her early albums. She performed a couple of the tracks on the show The outer limits where she played the role of a fading pop star!!!! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bMeKiplq15fHXWw.html

Thank you for the ONJ tribute. She is my #1, where Sheena is my #2. Devastated doesn’t even cover the emotions. As you’ve seen here alone, the crossover between the two artists fans is amazing.

It is a great loss. I’ve been watching a lot of tributes about her and she was genuinely a great human being. And I’ve said it since the first album review that the similarities between her and Sheena are quite astounding. They both have unique and beautiful voices and unlimited talent. She will be missed.

@@b24ful I’ve been a mega fan since i was like 4, before Grease. Such a huge part of my life. Her music was my escape in a very bad childhood. She was able to teach me compassion, to love different types of music and how to really listen to the words for its meaning. I haven’t been able to listen to her music yet, afraid I’ll just fall apart, but I will once the pain subsides

I've always thought of "My Cherie" as the grown up / more mature version of "No Sound But A Heart." Very ballad heavy and peppered with a few uptempo/mid-tempo tracks. This is one of my favorite of her albums, mostly because her vocals are not only powerful, but also matured and controlled. I feel like in her earlier recordings, her vocals tended to get a little out of control. But here, the restraint that she uses and the power that she sings with is pretty remarkable. This is one of those albums I like to put on and get lost in. And as I referenced before, I used a lot of the music from this album for the Sheena Easton windows theme. I may also have a fondness for this release because this was actually the first Sheena recording I purchased. I had heard a lot of her music growing up, but never purchased any of it. A couple years after this release, a friend played it for me and I went and got a copy of my own. "You've Learned To Live Without Me" is the standout here for me. Given my love of the emotional anthems that Diane Warren has penned which are favorites of mine, it's no shock why I love this song so much since she is the writer for it. Sheena brings it to life with some amazing emotion added into her vocals. "Crazy Love" is a close second and "Flower In The Rain" is third for me. Given that Sheena really wasn't pushing this album all that hard, it's easy to see why it didn't achieve the success it probably should have if the right promotion was behind it. I think "My Cherie" was a great first song out the gate, but it needed a real push of "Hey, I'm Sheena F*cking Easton and I'm back!" However, I totally understand her choices and respect them. I would have probably done the same in her position. Glad to see you back. You seemed a little disconnected in this video, so I hope that all is well. Looking forward to your thoughts on "Freedom" next. I'm going to have to dust that one off and give it a listen myself. SN - Great ONJ tribute. I'm still shaken. But a muse to many has joined an incredible chorus of angels to continue to inspire magical music from others! May she rest in power!

Thank you for the comment. You’re right- I didn’t seem to be having the usual fun I normally have. I can promise you, having already shot the “Freedom” review, I have a lot more fun with it. I’m so glad you love this album. I find myself liking the albums more and more the more I listen to them.

Interesting thing with this album. She had just adopted her son like a couple months earlier . I actually got to meet her at a radio contest in Long Island. I gave her my cassette of No Sound But a Heart, she laughed and said she didn’t even have a copy(at that time)She said if i liked that album, I’d love this new one: it was an awesome lunch I had to spend with her. Asked why she was out promoting the album right after adopting her son…: she frowned and just said..contracts and obligations with the record label.

Another great review of a Queen Sheena cd! I also love these ballads, the only two stinkers for me are Next To You and Too Much In Love. Could be good songs but for me a recurring problem with many of Sheena's songs is that the instruments used sound so cheap and not to the level of her talent. Often this was just 80s synth sounds, I'm an 80s guy but that fake sound is off-putting to me. Other than those two songs, I love this cd. As I asked in your last review, what got you on this journey of Sheena music? Very curious as to what got you started reviewing an artist you didn't know much of?

To be completely honest- went to a used bookstore that had thousands of vinyls. My brother in law asked if I had ever heard of her, I told him no, and spent $3 on her first two albums. I actually did the first review for him- to let him know what I thought about it. It’s mind blowing to me that a random vinyl in a bookstore has turned into this crazy journey.

@@b24ful ha, funny, I imagined you going thru, although more extensive, Etta James music. Most of my favorites tend towards soul and blues not pop as much. Also, Pat Benatar, a couple good songs but holy hell, have you ever heard her cd "True Love" it's amazing! So loving Sheena, and actual instruments, i would love to hear Sheena conquer that style as well!
