Use fabric instead of paper for bulletin boards. It's fadeless, wrinkle free, and you can get it in so many more options. If you buy it at hobby lobby, you can get one long piece that you can cut into the sizes you need and use a 40%off coupon! I buy small patterned or solid. Solid black looks amazing and can be used year after year!!

Those work well if the area is not a high traffic area and you use a darker colored tablecloth. I have found the light ones don't cover the board very well. I tried a plastic tablecloth in the hallway display and it was shredded pretty quickly. But it's a great way to cover the board without spending a ton of money. Fabric can get expensive...especially if you have multiple bulletin boards!

Have a nice day xox Yeah! When I was in elementary school, all 5th and 6th graders were stuck in portables. It was terrible because everyone was so hyper and there was no space to move around. It also got super hot in May and June, and super cold during the winter months.

I am always impressed with the amount of time and dedication teachers in the K-12 system have. Your classroom looks great. So organized and layout is perfect. I loved this video! My mom was a teacher my entire life (now she's an administrator) and I loved helping her decorate her classroom each year. I spent every after-school afternoon in her classroom, and I took every trip with her to all the "teacher stores," so I LOVE teacher-y stuff as well! Your room is super cute and organized, hopefully it can stay that way! lol. I bet you're an awesome teacher!

I'm in my senior year of high school and our classrooms in elementary school were never this colorful and pretty. They almost looked like big janitor closets or jail cells with a bunch of white brick through the entire school. Your kids will really appreciate the time you took creating a welcoming environment for them 💙

I just want to say all the efforts you put in to decorate your classroom clearly shows how much you care about your students. I came to the US when I was nine and I spent my first few years here as an ESL (English as my second language) student and if it wasn't for a few truly caring teachers who spent hours teaching me how to read, I wouldn't have gotten where I am today. Teachers really do make a difference in so many kids' lives, especially the ones that go the extra mile. Thank you! 😊

I LOVE your reading nook! My mother was actually my third grade teacher, and she valued reading so much. For her classroom, she got hold of a brand new bathtub from the nearby base from where we lived, and kept the wooden "shell" that it came in and put it in her reading nook. She had everyone bring in a pillow to fill it up, and it was called the reading bathtub. She used it for incentives. She also would rotate everyone once a week, and when it was your week, if you turned in all your homework on time, worked well throughout the week, and kept your area clean, you got 20 minutes in the reading bathtub on Friday while everyone else had to do some type of schoolwork in class. People still remember her reading bathtub and how impactful it was on their love for reading (and I'm 38 now!)! I'm excited for your class!

This is so strange to see! I went to school in Norway, and our classrooms were totally bare (if I remember right) at the start of the year, and would only "fill up" if we made something that was then hung on the walls. I just find it fascinating how different things are in different contries, and I also find it a little weird that you have to buy all of this yourself. I also find it weird that you have the US flag up in the classroom... Here we drew it coming p to our national day, and we only hung it up outside if it was a special day. Really liked the video, and I wish my old classrooms looked like this, makes it so much more inviting and nice! Have a good school year Jessica!

27 students in 1 class, wow! My daughter's classroom was about 10-13 students until 5th grade [K3-8th grade private]. You will surely have a busy year, but I bet it will never be boring in your class. 5th graders are just starting to find themselves and working on expressing their opinions, but still have a pure innocence. All these years, and I have never put much thought into how much work goes into setting up a classroom. That was ALOT of work. Whew.... went from drab to fab!!!! Very neat, thank you for sharing.

Marium Salman Aw, I actually love the higher grades and the kids are not as scary as you would think. I have become their mother hen or something over the last couple years because I have a constant flow of kids in my room, even during lunch, planning, and before school. I always say that I would literally have no idea what to do if someone asked me to run an elementary classroom for a day 😆

Thank you for teaching and helping to mold our children into the adults they will become! My son is a rising Junior in high school this year! I can hardly believe it! I have 2 sister in laws that are teachers (one is a elem music teacher and the other is a teacher at a group home) my father in law is also a retired marketing and horticulture teacher. He retired 2 years ago. I know it's not an easy job, it's very tiring and such hard work. A thankless job at many times. I hope you have a great school year and a wonderful bunch of students! Thank you again for everything you do. My son has had some wonderful teachers through these past years. I only wish he were lucky to have had you as a teacher/mentor! That would have been awesome. My son's first day of school is the Tuesday after Labor Day here in VA. Here's to the start of the 2017/2018 school year!!

How does the school year work in the USA? I'm really confused. Our children start back at school after summer in September. They have a week off in October for half term then work through until Christmas (they have two and a half weeks off). They go back the first week in January and have another half term week break in February. Then it's back to school for 2 weeks off at Easter and a week off at the end of June for Spring bank holiday. They return to school until nearly the end of July and then have 6 weeks summer break. Our school days (in my town in Britain) start at 8.45 and finish at 3.15pm x We also have odd bank holiday day's off and teacher training days x

I really enjoyed walking through the process with you. I was a teacher's aide and getting ready was always the most enjoyable three days hard work. Loved changing the bulletin boards for every season or holiday. My favorite was Dr. Seuss Day. I'd work weeks with one other teacher making the door covers depicting either book covers or an illustration. Finally the evening before the big day, after every student had exited the school we'd work feverishly to surprise our students.

Goldilocks I've seen them a lot more the past few years, kids can chose to sit on the floor however they wish. I've seen some teachers buy these spiny circle cushion things to sit on the floor, looks like she got the foam knee protectors u can use in the garden. I know the classes I've seen who use seating like this don't have the same desk all year, they rotate weekly. So the kid won't be on the floor all year. In my sons school, 4th grade, they offer a variety of seating too including exercise balls instead of a chair, chairs with elastic bands on the leg to bounce their legs, beanbags, tables to stand at. They encourage the kids to learn in whatever way is comfy for them as long as it's not distracting. They also offer privacy screens if a child is distracted visually by others, noise cancelling headphones if a child is distracted by noise or other kids when he should be working independently, a lot of things to really help the kids. It's amazing what teachers do everyday. I give so much credit, I know I could never do it.

Nicole Valadares and some kids need to stand during a lot of their class time. A teacher must be flexible and try to individualize as much as possible. Yet it's so hard on the classroom teacher. Meeting every single need, and those are legion!!
