My Coming Out Story - Weekly Vlog 33 - Paul Richmond Studio
Hey everyone! Today's video deals with a topic that people are always asking about - my coming out story. I think it's cool to hear how different LGBTQ KZfaqrs made their journeys out of the closet, so I'm adding my own voice to the conversation. I was raised Catholic in a small, conservative part of the Midwest where sexuality was seen in pretty black and white terms. Even though I was confused and questioning from a very early age, I repressed those feelings because I didn't want to be a disappointment to my mom and dad. But I knew I was different, and this is the story of how I grew to accept myself for who I really am. I hope by sharing my story, the experiences I've had and the lessons I've learned will help inspire you to live as authentically as possible. Love you guys!

Thank you for sharing. I hope that one day, sexuality won't be an issue for anyone. Just from observing my teens and their friends, i can see that we're gradually getting there xx

Yes, it is awesome to see how open-minded so many young people are. I know that there are still a lot who struggle, but it feels like we are definitely moving in the right direction!

Wow, Paul. Thank you for opening up about something so very important. The more that people who are "in"-whatever it is they're in, whether it's being gay or, as in my case, living with depression-realize there are others out there who know how they feel, who understand what they're going through / have gone through, the more power they feel in their own lives. Every story helps, and yours is wonderful.

Thank you so much! I agree with you that feeling alone can be one of the most difficult aspects of any kind of personal struggle.

I knew you were gay before I even really knew "gay" was a thing, and I hope that doesn't insult you. Being with you in art class and drama club and everything was always so much fun, and you were such an inspiration to me as a high school kid. When I found you on MySpace (I think?!) years ago and discovered that you'd come out and were a serious artist and so involved with the LGBT community, I felt so proud to know you. I think you're probably my most inspirational friend! 💕

OMG - that doesn't insult me at all! It took me a while to catch on (I mean I had a mural of Cher in my apartment when I was still "straight!"), but I can only imagine how obvious it must have been to other people around me. I'm so glad we reconnected on MySpace (wow!) and are still friends!

As a bisexual woman in an open relationship (with both a male and a female partners), I can relate to this on many levels. I don't really talk to anyone - besides friends - about my relationship status as I have had so much negativity in regards to it. All the "you obviously don't love your girlfriend" or "she's just using being in an open relationship to sleep around" etc. My parents sort of know some stuff but not everything as it's just not worth having to explain things, if that makes sense. The rest of my family don't have a clue and I'd rather it stay that way. Most of them are closet racists etc so it's not even worth my time telling them. So glad I found this video on the Small KZfaqrs Facebook group. I will definitely subscribe and I'll catch up with some of your videos tonight when I get home from work.

I can't understand why so many people feel the need to weigh in on someone else's life. How can anyone possibly presume to know what is going on in another person's head and what would be best for them? It took me long enough to sort things out for myself. Who am I to judge someone else? I think the further we move away from the black and white, clearly defined rules about sexuality and relationships that have been held up as the golden standard for generations, the more uncomfortable it may make some people. But that's the beauty of it -- nobody has to do anything they don't want to do. They just have to live and let live. And I do think there are more people in younger generations who are open minded about sexuality, gender, relationships, etc. and that we are moving in the right direction, but it does feel like such a slow process sometimes. Thanks so much for commenting and sharing your story.

Every coming out story has different endings, mine still being so sad, I had to leave my parent´s house because of my father´s homophofia, after 4 years he still thinking it´s a kind of ill. But I must confess that I´m happy now living with my husband
