I answer some questions about the rifle that I use for service rifle competition.

Thank you for sharing. I really like the integer click instead of moa on the scope dial.

Thank you. I particularly appreciated the guidance on your counter-balancing techniques as I have the same upper in a 7.7 twist and the the same Magpul stock.

Thanks for the video! I have the same basic rifle set up except I’m using the WOA scope. Watching your videos helped me decide on components when I was building my rifle.
@kendallmiller-mather23792 жыл бұрын
"[the sling] even though its not technically part of the rifle, I consider it to be..." The US Army considers the sling to be a part of the weapon system, the same as an optic, light, grip, bipod, or any other force multiplier. So you're correct, it IS a part of the rifle.

Konrad, you forgot to mention your Magpul BAD lever. Very important for rapid fire with scope to close bolt on second mag. Using charge handle is slow and cumbersome when in a sling.

I'm a "click" shooter too. Was thinking What's wrong with me? I'd turn with integers via my mrad and just know in my head what I needed to do across the course.

Funny how you like integer clicks instead of 1/2 or 1/4 moa. The PRS/long range/"sniper" world likes mils over moa I think in part for the same reason, although tenths are used it's the same idea... simple numbers. Nearly every dope is a X.Y solution and spotting someone with mil corrections is easier to call and dial. Plus of course there are two MOAs (shooters and true) and the difference 4.7% is noticable at range.!

I ve been out of shooting high power a long time like 10 years are they using scopes on space guns as well. And bolt action match rifles
@konrad18532 жыл бұрын
Optics are allowed for both service rifle (4X max) and match rifle. At this point I hardly see any metallic sight rifles at matches any more.

@@konrad1853 thanks I've been thinking of getting back into I still have my space gun with rpa tracker sights but I have a Springfield armory scope that I have been thinking of putting on my Ar it's calibrated for 223 . I'm curious as to what the match rifle trends are . I used to shoot a tubb gun but sold it what is popular with the match rifle guys. I was thinking the Ruger RPR or the Tikka tac would work well if you could get a slotted hand guard for the hand stop.

Any reason why you went with the added rail and weaver rings over a cantilever 20moa mount?

I asked John at WOA to build me an optics service rifle upper. Those are the components he chose. I don't really specify stuff for my rifle as he knows the equipment better than I do.

Thanks, very informative. I was wondering how often service rifle shooters replace barrels. Do you keep track of your round count and replace the barrel after a certain number? If not, can you give some general guidance? Do you notice any degradation in barrel performance after a certain number of rounds fired?
@konrad18533 жыл бұрын
Different shooters have different barrel replacement strategies. I keep track of rounds but I do not replace the barrel based on shots. I replace each winter because that's the most convenient time to do it and I can spend the start of the next season getting zeros. I replaced my last few barrels at 2300-2600 rounds because that's how the timing worked out.

What spring and buffer do you use? Setting up a match rifle got a RR trigger, and waiting on a A4 Shilien 7.5 Ratchet upper.

It looks like you had the lower milled for a PDQ lever? What was your opinion on that vs the BAD lever? Was it illegal?
@konrad1853 Жыл бұрын
The lower was machined by White Oak Armament for a right-hand bolt release of their own design. In the January 4, 2017 CMP rulebook this was allowed. A few months later the CMP released another rulebook, with the same edition number, that disallowed modifying the lower. That's when I changed to a BAD lever.

Konrad, how do you go about deciding on what twist rate and grain you use? Also, are there good sources on how to decide?
@docar15232 жыл бұрын
The weight inside of the stock, in the compartment, is something you glued in there or is that a kit as well? Only weights I am able to find come with a modified door that is no longer flush with the rest of the stock. Second question about extension tube weight. Are you sure they are from White Oak? Many thanks in advance.
@konrad18532 жыл бұрын
The weight that I have is triangular in shape and fits in the cavity of the buttstock. The cylindrical weight attaches to the end of the buffer tube. I explain some of this in my video on service rifle weight. Everything that I buy for my rifle comes from White Oak.

What chamber does your barrel have, and do you load your own? Any special attention to headspace or just "in spec"? I run the Wylde chamber so I can use whatever ammo I can scrounge up, and to the tight side of headspace. I'm only an 84% average shooter so my rifle is far better than me.
@konrad18532 жыл бұрын
I think my rifle has a Wylde chamber as well. Headspace is something my gunsmith takes care of. I don't worry about it.

I noticed that you have an ambidextrous bolt closing device on your lower receiver. What’s your thinking on this? Thanks.
@SinginShooter3 жыл бұрын
"Service rifle" shooters have their left hand jammed behind the sling swivel, leaving only the right for operating. The big, low power scopes make it difficult to reach over the upper to press the paddle.
@dinoc.55373 жыл бұрын
Magpul BAD Lever. It works really well and isn’t difficult to install using basic skills and AR punch tools.
@konrad18533 жыл бұрын
As others have said, the Magpul BAD lever works well in this application. With iron sights, I could reach through the carry handle to close the bolt in the prone position. With optics, it's much harder to reach over scope. The BAD lever allows me to close the bolt as I get into position.

I have the same UBR G1 stock. By having the two positions you use, does that eliminate the need to change the position of the sling dogs as you transition stages?
@konrad18532 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what you mean by sling "dogs". Only my sling length will be re-adjusted between stages. The forward sling swivel is fixed so I will adjust the length based on my position and the contour of my firing point.
@fenomeno712 жыл бұрын
@@konrad1853 Sorry about the confusion. I was asking if you adjusted both the sling as well as the stock, or if the stock adjustment alone allowed you to leave the sling in one position.

Did you have a ambi bolt release installed? Iv installed some and the cut on your lower looks like it had one before ?
@konrad18532 жыл бұрын
You have a good eye. At one point the CMP service rifle rules allowed an ambidextrous bolt release that could utilize a modified lower receiver. So I had my lower modified to install this. Afterwards, the CMP changed their rules to disallow any modification of the lower. I had to uninstall the bolt release and get a BAD lever. The lower receiver still has the slot for the previous device.

Can you explain "clicks" as opposed to MOA please?!?!? It's all just counting isn't it?
@konrad18532 жыл бұрын
This sounds like a good video idea. Part of it is counting, but the difference is the ease of keeping track of changes in your head. The simple answer is that, in my opinion, tracking changes of whole numbers is much easier than adding and subtracting fractions.
