I use gloves with my wheelchair(makes a big difference). Make sure the gloves are snug but obviously not too tight Park in the handicap spot and you will have a ramp on the sidewalk. Did you get leg rests? I love to use them to take the pressure off my legs. Maybe you don't need them. I don't walk at all. You will be maneuvering around in no time. This will make your life better!

I think that was what the sling/strap that was velcro'd onto the frame was for... for leg support. I wish my wheelchair had some leg support. I am a p/t user, like Jaquie, but I got my chair thru a program called "Aids to Daily Living" here in Alberta, Canada. While I am very grateful for it, it is huge, weighs a tonne and a half, I don't have the strength to propel myself very far (not at all on carpet) and it's rattly, etc. I'd love to get something like Jaquie has so I don't have to rely on anyone to help me. I am able to drive but I cannot, in all honesty, remember the last time I left my home. A month maybe? Anyways, it is so exciting for her! I've often wondered about getting gloves too. That's such a great idea. Where do you get them from? A medical supply company or a sporting goods store?

I am so thrilled with my chair! We are still trying to figure out how to get me the app, because during my evaluation it was determined that I need the features it comes with. My ATP (assistive technology professional) believes it will be back on the market eventually, but how long that will take is a mystery. Something happened regarding the FDA, apparently it was not coded correctly? Anyways, we are trying to sort it out. (: The wheels are from Germany and very well made. This weekend I have my first adventure with my chair, I am excited and looking forward to it! I hope y’all have a great Friday! If anyone has any WC tips, I am totally open to them!

I'm so glad your wheelchair's here! 2:08 One thing about the wheels which I do hope you'll read! If you ever need to have them out and want to put them back in, make absolutely sure you push the axles all the way in! There are 2 reasons I'm so emphatic about this: 1 - Even someone at what I believe you would call our "durable equipment company" messed this up once. 2 - If you roll around with the axles not pushed in all the way, they're going to slide out over time. HEAVEN FORBID the axles come out when you're rolling with any speed! 8:44 I don't use gloves myself, but then, I also don't use power assisted wheels. I just remembered that the NCHPAD has a whole series of videos about how to do things in a wheelchair. Here's a link for you: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jslhlKd7zMreqp8.html 12:05 If you're interested, these speeds correspond to 3.73 miles per hour to 6.21 miles per hour. 12:31 I wonder if that's the true reason and what exactly the problem is.

As a lifelong wheelchair user, I knew once you got your chair you would be so happy and I'm glad to see that you are! I had power assist wheels a few years ago when I went away to college and they helped me so much! Your power assist wheels are way better than mine were! Use bike gloves. I think they would work best. They leave your fingers bare, but provide padding for your hands.
@TheRomanRuler
@TheRomanRuler 6 жыл бұрын
Issue with that is that if wheels get any dust or dirt of any kind on them, they don't provide protection and you need to clean your hands all the time. With regular gloves, you could just take gloves off if you need to use phone, but with bike gloves you need to at least wipe your hands before you do that.

I am so happy that you got your chair! It’s gorgeous and I’m jealous that you got to pick the colour. The roho pad is a great one as I have a similar model from them. You’ll get used to doing the small wheelies if needed, but I find it easier to go around to a curb cut. I would hope that in Florida with the number of seniors there that they would be plentiful. You totally make me want some power assist wheels now. What I really liked about this video in particular is that it really shows how much wheelchairs equal freedom, not confinement. Oh, and for my best wheelchair tip - if you’re going to end up leaving it in a car or the sun for a while before using it (for example, we store mine in the car but take the pads inside), make sure you cover it with a car sun shade to help keep the push rims and chair itself cooler. Those can really heat up in a short amount of time. Sorry for the essay, but I’m legit excited for you and your newfound freedom. Hope you love it!!

I am so excited for you, this will make your life so much easier & when you start driving again it will help you a lot. A good way to work out whether the Roho cushion has the right amount of air is to place both your hands flat out on the middle of the cushion. Push both hands down at the same time as far as you can go. If your hands hit the base of the cushion, you need to put more air in. The most your hands should go down is half way. In regards to the gloves, buy the ones that are designed for wheelchair users & also look for the ones that have extra padding in the base of the thumb area. (Fingerless are good because they won’t make your hands as hot & enable you to use your smartphone) Because of the position you will have your hands in when you wheel, don’t be surprised if your thumb & the area beneath it get sore. It will go away after awhile, the hands just need to adjust to the position they need to be in. Good luck & have fun.

Hi Jaquie! I’m new to your channel and I’m so happy for you! I battle with a lot of the same illness like EDS Hypermobile, POTS, Gastroparesis, Immune System Issues, some kind of metabolic problem that is proving to be quite a challenge to identify and a lot of other things. To be honest I was relived to find someone with whom I could relate to and you and your family have helped to keep me and mine sane when my illnesses are spinning out of control. To know that someone has been there and pulled through and that this is normal and we aren’t crazy is such a relief. You give us comfort and hope and make me and my mom smile. You have also given us another formula option to try since my last formula, Liquid Hope, has become too difficult on my digestive system and you introduced me to Grip-Lok (thank you for saving my skin!). But overall, just thank you for all that you do we always keep you in our prayers. Now, I remember when I first got my chair and I was able to leave the transport chair behind. I was thrilled!!! But the chair can tear up an EDSers hands so I have some suggestions for gloves. I currently live in Houston so I’m familiar with hot and muggy weather; therefore, breathable gloves were a must for me. However, because of my EDS and poor proprioception I needed good cushioning and grip on the gloves so I didn’t have to exert so much force from my hands. My mom used to be a cyclist and I was learning so I went to a performance bike or cyclist store and found fingerless gloves with a mesh-like fabric for the top and the bottom has plenty of durable cushions with silicone gripes on the fingers and pads to help you grab the bars better. The gloves are cut and designed specially for your hands to go around and hold on to the handlebars of a bike which is pretty much like what you grab onto with your chair. These gloves are my life saver, the are very comfortable, your hands won’t sweat so no blisters and the silicone helps the gloves do all the work. Bonus, they come in many different colors. I hope this helps and have fun in your chair!!

Congratulations on your chair! I'm so happy for you. Watching this really gives me the motivation to re-start the process to get my own custom ultra-light chair. I started earlier this year and the DME my insurance referred me to was TERRIBLE. I was so hopeless and frustrated with that experience that I gave up and have been using my super heavy manual chair. I really needed a push to try again, so thank you ❤️

I’m so happy for you I was waiting for it to come too. Love you jaquie I wish I could meet you, you’re so inspiring, keep doing what you do. You are so incredibly special. I hope you see this as you make my day. I don’t have any chronic illness but your vids are interesting and I love how you teach us about your chronic illnesses. I only found you earlier this year and I’m already hooked. - love: Tamryn 💕💕💕

I'm sure you probably already do this but I make a "DONT FORGET" note in my iPhone where I put everything I need to remember to bring while traveling. I travel to Colorado atleast once a year and take shorter trips through out the year and I found I was always forgetting something when I traveled. To prevent this from happening I keep a list in phone and open it every time I travel to make sure I have everything. If I get a new medication or need something else I add it to the list immediately. I also have a "BEFORE YOU LEAVE FOR VACATION" list which has stuff like unplug the coffee pot and take out the garbage and a "BEFORE WORK" list that has things like my water bottle, badge,keys, and whatever else I need to bring to work. I find that I now very rarely forget things and it takes a lot of the stress away. I teach kids with special needs, coach at a competitive cheerleading gym, and I myself have psoriatic arthritis so I am constantly fighting joint pain and psoriasis patches. I have a lot on my plate and very little time to pack and plan so these lists are MY LIFESAVER!! I passed on the trick to my mom who can be forgetful due to MS and she is now a lot more independently and a lot less likely to forget the things she needs when she leaves the house!! I hope this helps!!

Congrats to your chair 👍🏼👍🏼I got the same, the parts you got in purple, I also got in purple, but the rest of my chair is in a kind of matt grey. And I love my chair, I have this one now for four years and it’s still awesome. I only got manual wheels and no armrests and wheelybars. On my first wheelchair I had the wheelybars and it helped a lot to get use to the sensation of a wheely. In the beginning it was quite scary, but I tried to use every freetime I got to exercise my wheely skills and after two weeks I got the hang of it and I never used the bars ever again. So keep on trying and one day you don’t need to think about getting up and down steps or something. You really got the best wheelchair I tried so far, and that’s been a lot. So with such an awesome wheelchair nothing can really stop you, although sometimes the environment is pretty against you and not really accessible, but that’s life and mostly there is another way 😊 wishing you a lot of awesome adventures with your chair and sending you a lot spoonies 🍀Katy
