Isnt it obvious from their mothers behavior that shes unhinged.....i had heard that about her living in Atlanta. People saying they felt they could be 'friends' but had to keep their distance.......long before any religious issues that anyone would know of even arose. I think it was clear by her demeanor through the years that she was unstable.

The ultra orthodox say, that women cannot sing in front of men, alone or as a group. Women can sing in a mixed group, because their voices would be mixed in and not heard as specifically female. The reasoning, a woman’s voice is very alluring and can compel men to stray from Torah thoughts.

This is a very modern Orthodox wedding. You have modern music, men and women dancing together, and women singing publicly in front of men. Either their father has become less observant from the previous lifestyle they grew up with, or tales of how strictly religious they were are greatly exaggerated. I think they were exaggerated - a little digging shows you how Miriam played competitive sports in a modern Orthodox high school, and even pics from Batsheva's wedding shows Julia in a form fitting dress with lots of makeup - far more "modern" orthodox than orthodox
