I feel your pain! On one account I went the warrior path to rush toward 4ER. Getting one ER is very tough without flares. On my other account I went for tanks and just slowly roll through the bases. In the long run I think tanks are not going to be the answer and saving those keys will pay off once I get to bombers. Keep going!
