I stopped using shampoo very successfully many years ago. I used only water, and "washed" my hair every day. The key is using a boar bristle brush on your dry hair, in order to disperse the natural oils down into the length of your hair. Also, when "washing" your hair, spend lots of time pulling the oil from your scalp down into the length of your hair. As your fingers get oily, rub the excess oil into the very ends of your hair. That's it! No Shampoo, No Nothing! It did take almost a month for my hair to transition, but once it did, it was awesome. My hair looked and felt TOTALLY clean all the time. My hair developed a lot more body. And my hair had a beautiful natural sheen to it, instead of the artificial shine that conditioners give.

@@user-eq2tb5qo3l Real dandruff is caused by a fungus. You can use an anti-fungal on it. Tea Tree Oil can be very good - just dilute it first with water and don't use too much -- it's very strong. I would apply diluted tea tree oil to wet scalp and massage it in. Leave it sit for a while, then rinse it out. But keep brushing with the boar bristle brush to stimulate the scalp and get the flakes out of there.
@hawaiirastalady
@hawaiirastalady 3 жыл бұрын
@@user-eq2tb5qo3l Yeah, it's probably just dry scalp - dandruff is pretty thick. So, my advice is to really massage your scalp while warm water is running on your head. Your fingers will start to feel oily from the oils in your scalp. Then take those oily fingers and run them down the length of your hair -- especially on the very ends. Keep rubbing your scalp and pulling the oil down into the length of your hair over and over. Then always finish with COLD water rinse. Even if for only a few seconds-- rinsing with cold water is VERY important.

I have seen or read dozens of testimonials about the no poo method and how you just need to stick with it. I'm shocked that no one seems to be writing or videoing about a bad experience with this regimen. I tried a bunch of these types of no poo methods and my hair was still extremely greasy on top and extremely dry/brittle on the bottom. (Yes, I did it correctly). I'm just putting this here because I think that, if people aren't having a good experience, "sticking with it" isn't always the best idea for everyone. I ended up switching to a sulfate-free/paraben-free drug store shampoo and conditioner and my hair is a 1000x better. I'm so glad no-poo works so well for some people but, if it isn't working for you, it's really okay to give up.

Yes, this ^ My sister did no poo twenty years ago and a fungal infection set in that her scalp never fully recovered from, the hair on the top of her head is still really thin, almost balding :/ I always look for mentions of fungus in these no poo vids, but people don't seem to know about that aspect. I also tried no poo for a year (using tea tree rinses every so often to prevent any fungal thing from happening to me), and it was ok, my hair was a more consistent condition than when you use shampoo etc, but it was also just a lot heavier, not as soft, and a bit duller. It wasn't bad, and certainly cheaper and easier but when I switched back I really enjoyed the lightness, softness and shine you can get from using some shampoo. Mind you I only switched back to loo poo, as really mainstream products dry my hair badly and aren't great for the planet. Currently I've been learning a bit of curly girl method, with occasional clarifying to remove build up and my hair is the best it's ever been. I can't believe how conditioned it is. I honestly don't think I could get this with no poo, but I have seen some lovely no poo hair, everyone's different!

Same here.. I really wanted to get into it. I mean no shampooing for a whole week sign me up! But after 3 months of greasiness, itchiness, and just plain out grossness I just couldn't stand it anymore. I used rye flour and that was actually great but my hair still got oily. ACV rinses didn't work on me and made my hair feel sticky. I scritched and preened my hair, used a boar bristle brush to brush my hair and still no results. The only difference is I can go without shampooing for like 3 days now instead of 1-2. Now I just use natural shampoo bars.

What I saw in the video works only on strong scalps. Mine is very sensitive. Up until two years ago, I had this beautiful long and thick hair with no extreme hair fall or dandruff. It was getting greasy after the fifth to the 8th day, honestly, I feel stupid for taking that blessing for granted. So two years ago I got this really bad dandruff and hair fall. I tried whatever... Changing shampoo (the stupidest thing ever), getting one that is anty dandruff, all sorts of masks and conditioners, but whatever I used it didn't get rid of the problem, it just added more problems. After two years of unsuccessful tries, my hair was getting greasy after 3 days top, it was itchy, it was thin and really.... Sad picture. Now, now.. I've introduced myself with the no poo method and decided it was my last resort. So I started with this specific one.. apple vinegar and baking soda and that worked well for the dandruff, but it did not nearly got rid of the oiliness. One day after the wash, my head was BURNING and itching and screamed "wash me". Now, mind you that I use room temperature water for my hair, because hot water is a no no. So I put aside the vinegar and soda thing and because I'm from Bulgaria, the country of sour milk or how you call it for some reason, greek yogurt. I've tried 3ts yogurt with a pinch of baking soda and oh my, it did do miracles, BUT. I do not recommend using that combination every week. Maybe once in a month, because it really cleans and exfoliates the scalp thoroughly. But what I've found to work best between those washes is, drums please... Yogurt, yes, again. And a whole egg. So 2ts yogurt and a raw egg (ofc if you have longer hair you can double the amounts, my hair is just beneath my shoulders), beaten together and massaged for a minute or two into the scalp (wet or dry).. it works amazing. The hair is silky, shiny, smooth, entangles easily, doesn't smell like flowers, but has no bad odou either. I remember as a kid we had no money for shampoo (20y ago) and we had chickens, so my grandma used the yolk of an egg to wash my hair. Needless to say I had the best hair in the kindergarten. One important thing. When you wash your hair with an egg, do not use anything above slightly warm water. The egg has low cooking temperature and we do not want it to get boiled in your hair. Plus lukewarm water really boosts the scalp. For just three weeks now I've gone from oily in to days, to oily in 4 days.

I've tried a lot of different methods for noo poo and baking soda feels a bit too harsh for my hair in the long run. My favorite one i've tried so far is chickpea flour (like 1-2 tbs and mix it with water into a paste) and a rinse of 1 tbs apple cider vinegar and 1 tbs lemon juice. Doesnt dry my hair out but cleans it really well! just a piece of advice if anyone else thinks baking soda is too harsh :D really good to see so many people are trying out no poo during quarantine and so on

I went no poo 7 weeks ago now. I found the best thing for me was Chickpea Flour (gram/besan flour) 3 tbsp with water into a thin paste and washed my hair followed by a ACV rinse or just water. Omg it works sooo well. Chickpea flour has natural saponins which cleanse the hair and it is high in protein which keeps it strong. It has been used for hundreds of years in India for washing hair so I tried it! Be sure to rinse all the flour out throughly or youll have to brush some bits out afterwards :)

I think the problem is that people want results as if they are using shampoo. The reality is that, so many factors effect our hair and how greasy it is, starting with hormones and what we consume, our environment and more. If one wants to be natural then it has to be remembered that, You will look natural, which means that, sometimes your hair will look greasy. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Bigger picture: saving the planet your hair and money. 🙏🏼👍🏽 Win win win Also it is a case of getting used to how your hair feels naturally and re wiring your beliefs of what is correct and what is not. We are so hard wired to believe that greasy equals dirty, to a point that we actually feel/believe that we are dirty. The reality is that grease (sebum) protects us from dirt! And damage. It's a great thing to have and a terrible thing to strip your hair/body of .. what ever your hair feels like without shampoo, is how it isn't meant to feel 😊💛 get used to it and re wire yourself to free yourself from an industry that that 💯 has you blinded to buy their products.

I did this years ago when I was 21. I didn't wash my hair for about 9 months, I also didn't cut it either, I grew out a euro mullet (I live in USA) it was pretty ugly... The transition phase is rough, but 4-6 months in, its pretty nice. I only ever did water. My hair smelt bad, and I did end up going back to shampoo. Now I'm four years vegan and eat very clean, I quit deodorant around January 2018. My armpits stink when I eat poorly, or eat something my body does not like, or dont have enough water. When I'm eating how I should, and drinking enough water, I don't stink, even when I workout / running. I wash my hair every 2-3 weeks, but thought about just doing no shampoo again, and came across NoPoo. Crazy world! ps. I can't drink coffee anymore, when I drink starbucks my pitts start sweating and stinking, my body does not like starbucks. no caffine all of 2021 as well. Look at me ;)

Great vid! I just want to let some people know to take it easy with ACV. It breaks down protein. Eventually your hair will start to become dry with split ends... then it will break off. You will not notice at first. Take a white sheet, sit on it, and comb your hair. When done, look down at the sheet to see if you have any broken hairs. I have been a "no Pooer" for 11 years. Full disclosure, I have short, curly hair. I mix the shampoo by the gallon and then the rinse by the squeeze bottle (by the gallon the ACV gets very funky over 6-8 months, trust me, eww). Baking soda dissolves completely in Coldwater, and I dispense into plastic squeeze bottles to keep in the shower (glass and me in the shower, um, no). I have never looked back and my hair is excellent. Also, if you color your hair and switch to "no-poo" it will strip the color out of your hair (at least it did for me). Once that happened, salt and pepper hair it has been ever since! Good luck, excellent video!

I used baking soda and ACV rinses but couldn't find the right ratio for my hair type (I have very fine straight hair). A couple of weeks ago, I've transitioned to using rhassoul clay. I put some clay powder in a bowl and mix it with water, wait until it becomes a paste that I can apply on my hair. I can leave it for a little as a hair mask or simply apply, massage, and rinse it as a shampoo. The clay is removing excess of oil and nourish the hair with all its minerals (+ it's good for the face too!). I used to shampoo my hair every two days and now I shampoo with clay only once a week - SO GOOD!

I use rye with water instead of baking soda and 100% aloe juice as a leave in conditioner. (I found that ACV has very mixed information about dosage, so don't want to risk it, since it is quite acidic) Both rye and aloe have good pH and they work wonders. Hair feels clean and really soft. Some people use chickpea flour instead. Baking soda will ruin your hair in the long run because of the imbalance of acidity on your scalp and in your hair. Either way, you're awesome. :)

Just found you and your channel, yippee. Thanks so much for all this research and information. I've been no poo for 2 years now and got lazy on the first step (baking soda) but wasn't happy with how only ACD turned out. I forgot about the interaction. I use a 500ml squeeze bottle. Seriously less effort than a spray bottle. More comes out at once, but is still controllable. I also wet my hair first, and apply the baking soda mix in 4 parts, massaging lightly after each 'dose'. Basically the same with the ACV rinse solution as well. Much quicker than spraying and just as effective!

No poo is great. I'm using a rice water mixture & it's working well. 1 cup of rice, orange rind and a few drops of essential oils, in a sealed jar for a week. Once fermented cover the hair and massage in, leave on for 20mins only. Then wash it out thoroughly in the shower. Once per week only. Used to have dry, damaged hair now its shiny and seems healthy. Only downside is it apparent smells a bit 'herby'

i’m SICK so sick and tired of having frizzy, unmanageable hair. i will be following this method, i’ve realised the more days i go without shampoo, the better my hair looks and it’s also very manageable!! the logical thing here is to cut it out completely. i did the no poo method before and my hair not only looked better but it grew suuuper fast!! i went back to shampoo to experiment how my hair is after using 98% natural ingredient shampoo, but no luck as it still left it frizzy, untamed and a nightmare to deal with. i remember when i was doing no poo, i got soo many compliments on my hair! my waves/curls looked absolutely gorgeous with minimal effort. anyways, i currently have a busy schedule and can’t afford to spend 40 mins just styling my hair (yes you read that right, i have thick hair so it takes me 40 mins to style after a shower) when i use shampoo, and find it has made it a messy and frizzy ball of fluff. thanks for this video and the tips.

I used the no-poo method for almost 8 months now and I’ll never go back to regular shampoo again 😊 Since I’m someone who doesn’t like chemicals, I tried a lot of different methods and I want to encourage everyone who wants to try the no-poo method to try and try till you find something that works. I started with chamomiletea with honey, it did work but it didn’t felt really good on my hair. After, I tried baking soda (which i’m never gonna do again since my scalp doesn’t seem to like it 😂), I tried a DIY for homemade shampoo (it made my hair look shiny but it didn’t work how I wanted), rice water (it can help and it is healthy, just not for me), white vinegar (was not a succes 😛)... Eventually I tried ACV with water and that worked. However, my picky ass was still not satisfied. I tried different kinds of tea (nettletea was awful, horsetailtea might work for people with dry hair), but the one with the best result for me was rooibos tea with 2 spoons of ACV :) All I want to say is, don’t give up and don’t feel discouraged when it doesn’t work out! If nothing seems to work, try organic or 93% or higher natural shampoo 😊 My sisters now also use better and healthier shampoo, both for them and for mother earth! But I’ll still stick to my tea ;) Good luck!

Hi, I did the Rooibos tea a few hours ago, but I still have some oil left. I have very oily hair. How many Rooibos sachets do you use for how much water? Then do you just add the ACV?
@jiskavv6116
@jiskavv6116 2 жыл бұрын
@@biancabrummer3075 For very oliy hair, rooibos tea might not always work, especially when it's one of your first times trying. Your hair needs to get rid of all the build-up shampoo stuff. I use one sachet for one big cup (300 ml) and I let it stand for a whole day before using it, I added the ACV in the tea itself before using it :) Chamomile tea can also help, I use the double amount (2 sachets per 300 ml) and you can add one spoon honey and let it stand for a whole day or noon also. I leave it in my hair for around 30 minutes for every tea rinse. Hibiscyus tea might also work but it's more to keep your hair healthy instead of washing it. Leaving your hair oily for a week before washing it may also help to get your hair used to the new method! Good luck!!

Took advantage of temporarily working from home to try this out. It's been 2 weeks now and while it's still transitioning, I don't think it's all that bad. I mean my scalp is greasy, but honestly it always looks like that because I'm a naturally very oily person. But the rest of my hair is getting body & feeling strong, looking shinier, ect. So if I put my hair up in like a ponytail or bun you not only can't tell, it looks better than it used to. Even if it stays like this I see no real reason to go back to using shampoo. I haven't really tried to use anything besides water yet so maybe I will try this soon, thank you!

Hey! I loved your video, no poo method is undoubtedly very effective. But personally, Baking soda and ACV aren't as effective for me as Amla (aka Indian Gooseberry) and shikakai. It leaves my hair completely clean and removes all the oil as well. I use the powered form of it by mixing amla in the boiled water and shikakai after cooling down a bit. You can also use coffee along with it. I prepare the mixture in an iron utensil and leave it overnight and apply it the very next day. I don't filter the thick crumbs of the mixture because I guess that's how it removes oil. I just leave it for about half an hour and then rinse it off completely. P.S. Amla soaked overnight in an iron utensil may leave a lil bit of black color on your hair. Since my hairs are already black, I've no issues.

I’ve been doing the no poo method for about 5 days now, today was the first day I used baking soda and apple cider vinegar but I definitely need to make a better ratio of each. My hair’s been fine and if it gets too greasy and I need to go somewhere I just add a bit of baby powder (which has a similar effect as dry shampoo but less damaging). I’m mostly just trying it as an experiment for now because I’m trying to switch over to a vegan lifestyle and I’m getting rid of soaps or I’m making my own soap because it’s hard for me to find vegan soaps.

I’m on day 13. My hair looks okay but feels so waxy. I did the ACV rinse twice. I hope it starts feel better because I cannot stand the waxy feeling anymore. Update: On day 20. I am tired of washing my brush every day.🙁 The waxy feel is gone, it only feels waxy when it’s wet and the day after I wash it. Other than that it is just so oily in the scalp. The ends looks dry( but not more dry than usual). And I lose more hair than usual because I have to brush it every day. I wash it once a week and I do rice water rinse infused with green jasmine tea. ATM the worst part for me is the smell, it smells like oily hair and I miss when my hair smelled clean. I don’t think this is sustainable long term, but I am trying to see if I can train my scalp to produce less oils and maybe end up washing it once a week with shampoo and conditioner. I’ll continue doing this for a month to see if any positive change happens. I’ll keep you updated. Update: it’s day 33 and I decided to finally wash my hair with regular shampoo and conditioner. My scalp was getting so itchy and had acne in it. I live in a hot country (Egypt) so maybe that’s why. The greasiness did not go away I was kind of hoping that after 4 weeks it would be a little better but it wasn’t. And no matter what rinse I used my hair was still smelling bad, and was falling Like crazy. Over all my hair just wasn’t getting any better, so I washed it with shampoo and conditioner, and probably from now on will only wash it once a week, which is achievable for me since I used to only wash it twice a week before trying the no poo method. Anyway I hope whoever reads this will have better luck with the no poo than me.

@@jezusova You can try adding medieval hair combing method with no shampoo water only method ☺️ I am not sure if this can help you but here's what I been doing with my hair after I've stopped using shampoo. There's this medieval hair combing method in which you simply brush your hair everyday for a long time (by long time I mean at least 30 minutes 😅.🌿 If you have short hair then brushing less than 30 minutes might work just fine for you🌿) . First I divide my hair in two sections. Then starting with one section, brush the hair with a very wide teeth comb. After detangling I take a few drops of oil(coconut oil because that's what I have.you can use any oil you want) and apply that on the ends of my hair (because that part tends to get dry. 🌿 You can use more or less than few drops if it's necessary for your hair 🌿). Next step is to start combing the hair with a comb which has thin gap between each teeth ( is used for getting rid of lice). I just brush my hair from root to tip. Each section of hair for at least 15 minutes(you might have to clean your brush one or two times in between if it gets too dirty). And after I am done with both section of my hair the shine is unbelievable 😄(🌿 if you are someone who doesn't care about having shiny hair then brushing your hair every two days should be alright . You can try going more days in between brushing your hair using the medieval hair combing method and see if that works for you. Rest of the days just brush how you normally would🌿). There's no grease of flakes on the hair. It feels and looks like freshly washed hair. I don't use any other products on my hair. Simply use water for washing the hair. But I tend to make a bun every other day while showering because the tips of my hair tends to get dry if I wash them every day. But I make sure to get the roots of my hair wet and just massage them somehow with my fingers under running water 😅. Rest of the days I just wet my hair completely while massaging the roots a little. That's what I've been doing for the past two months. And everytime I tell someone that I haven't been using any shampoo,soap or conditioner the surprised look on their face is real😁. By the way, I live in a tropical climate and I have thigh length hair which is bleached from the mid length to tip. Never had to deal with the greasy feeling neither do I have split ends problem with my bleached hair because of this medieval combing method😊. Never had itching problem. My scalp smells just like my skin ☺️. So give it a try. You can just search medieval hair combing method on KZfaq.

I've been doing no poo for almost two months now and I haven't tried any rinses yet. I have been washing it with only water and only now starting feeling some type of grease cape on my whole hair. Almost considered washing with shampoo to calm it down, but I'm gonna keep trying the ''only water'' technique for now and see how it goes. I've also noticed the sebum particles in my brush every time I brush it before washing and thought it was weird until I saw you talking about it in this video and stating that is normal. I've been really enjoying the no poo results on my hair, it has grown more and stronger and I'm so happy because I've never seen my hair so full like that before. Hi! Said "grease cape" could be the oily buildup from the transition phase. I've had the same problem, and I read somewhere that you should wash it with natural shampoo or soda once - it shouldn't disrupt your progress, but it will help remove buildup. @Kate Hi! Very similar situation here. Started noticing what i assume is build up after research (i dont have hard water where i live). The apparent solution was an egg yolk or diluted lemon juice (two tablespoons of lemon juice in a 500ml/16 ounces water bottle). I tried the second one. What i did first was wash with water as usual and then apply the lemon water. i combed with a wide tooth comb gently and used my fingers to make sure i reached everywhere and then wait 5 minutes before rinsing (if you have very dry hair leave it just a minute). I inmediatly felt the change in the texture while in the shower: the heaviness and waxiness was out of my hair. i confirmed it once it's dried :) Hope it helps!

I've been no poo for quite a long time. My current water only routine has been my routine since the very beginning of 2017. But it only works because I clarify with distilled water...inn order to remove mineral build-up form my tap. So my current head of hair was a buzz cut in January of 2017. So all the hair on my head (about nipple length) has never seen store bought hair product. At all. I'm quite happy with my hair. It's not perfect though. Reversing the cowlick my childhood barber trained into my hair has been necessary to help heal the damage it had on my scalp. So I'll cut my hair off when that finishes to see what a healthy head of hair will look like for me on water only. But I absolutely love it! I really only get a trim 2 or 3 times a year. Have you bleached your hair??

My biggest critique....... do NOT use glass in the shower!! If you use something like a Rubbermaid round container with a screw on lid, you can mix everything before getting into the shower

Is there a particular baking soda that I should aim for or all the brand the same?

I'm in wk 1, how often do you wash and rinse? As hair gets oily... I do need to rinse my hair as it gets oily - and have to go to work! But be careful with baking soda - it is powerful and can make your hair go dry and the scalp. Does acv & BS work if you put oil on your hair to rince of the oil of hair? As I piut oil on my hair/ oil my hair alot - hair needs regular oiling! Is baking soda and vinegar safe with babies and children though??

I am new to the no poo method and I am finding that in about four days time my hair follicles hurt at my scalp. I will try your ratio at the end of the week. Question. When you get your hair cut or trimmed, how do you get around them using shampoo? I do have a specific long cut which needs to be maintained. Thank you for your help 🙂

You would just have to be extra careful with the pH balance I think. A few people have suggested chickpea flour as an gentler but still effective alternative :)

i am trying to make the transition, my hair look thankfully nice but they fruzz more and the are do mot sine. I try to make the no poo transition with only natural shoo bars like green shoap and after the bath i try to use oils. My problem is that i can not wash my hair only once a week i need to do 2 times a week. Do you have any recomendations about the green shoap? Mersii!!!!!!

I love no poo. I started it after your first video, and my hair is loving it. I tried it before, but back then i cared too much how my hair looked, so i couldn't go fat too long with it, and probably made mistakes. Now my hair is thriving

hey, materials scientist here. the 'oiliness' on your hands after the baking soda is just an alkaline reaction of the baking soda with your skin, which us why the ACV cancels it out (because its acid) - its not oil!

I guess I'm the only one whose scalp and skin in general love apple cider vinegar. Though I've never used it with soda, so idk how it would feel with the reaction

I have also heard that having hard water makes your hair look dirty because they leave a film on your hair that moisture and your natural oils can’t easily penetrate.

This video was probably one of the most helpful. I’ve been doing no poo for about three months now and my hair hasn’t transitioned yet. I was thinking about giving up until I found this video. All the other videos I came across weren’t as educational and detailed as this one. They were just like yeah I haven’t washed my hair in years look at me all I do is wash it with water. Now I know what I’ve been doing wrong and hopefully I can continue. Thank you very much :)
