People dismiss a dogs unsteady legs for old age but sometimes it's just sore paws. When a dog has sore paws he wont want you to touch them so you have to be creative. The way I cut my dog's nails is I place a bowl with a little milk (can mix it with some water) in it in front of him, he has to be lying down when drinking. Then I cut one nail. It takes time. You have to repeat the process. Sometimes I only cut four nails a day. It's made a huge difference in his life. He walks with more vigour, he sits and gets up way faster and easily.

This was perfect. We just adopted a senior dog a few days ago and she has been in a lot of discomfort, getting up and down. It’s a struggle, but I also see the very audible clicking. We have occasional crankiness at our other dog who usually minds their business. The struggle to get up. This gives me good intel and points to share with our vet this upcoming week. To hopefully medication as needed to give her some relief.

Thank you so much for this video. I've just been looking for more information about degenerative myelopathy after my dog was diagnosed with it and came across you. My dog hates going to the vet, and with coronavirus I wasn't able to go in the room with him, so wasn't sure how much/how well they were able examine him. They said he had been difficult to handle, but it seemed that the pain was in his back. After going through your video, it seems the pain is definitely not in the back, but in the hip. Might film my dog's reactions to take with me to a future appointment so they can get a better idea of how to help us. Fantastic video, and very well explained.

Louis ♥ One in a million. Thank you SO much. I also have a "Louis" . He is 10 and never seems to be in pain but his feet drag. He still loves to walk & often looks confused when his rear doesn't respond. I had no idea what was going on but now I do. Bless your heart, Sir. We didn't go to the vet because of Covid. I can't tell you how much you have helped.

I'm so glad that I can text as much as I want in this comment section, Louis is such a good boy he knows he's helping you help others, I can read dogs very well and he is just letting you do the norm. He's used to this from you and plays along every time. RIP Lewis 💙. Thank you Luis for all you have done for us, you're such a good boy letting Daddy teach us how to take care of our fur babies. Thank you Andrew Jones for helping all of us help our pets. I'm sure you know how dachshunds front legs are and how it's hard for them to spread apart from the chest. That's the way my dachshund Chloe is and when I told the that's assistant that her front legs don't spread apart and be very careful when removing her tumor in her armpit. She told me when dogs are under they tend to be more relaxed and able to spread apart. As a pet owner I'm very aware of my dog in every way since I'm home everyday and she is my caregiver❤ I noticed her limping but I can't remember if it was right after surgery or a week or so later. If they accidentally put her arm apart more than it should go what muscle would they have torn or possibly hurt? I am not accusing I am just trying to figure out why after removing the tumor she now has this limp. When she walks her head Bobs up and down as she is not wanting to put too much pressure but yet she is walking on her left front leg. What's really strange is she prefers to run. I have noticed she will wait for me to get 12 feet in front of her when I ask her if she's ready to eat and then she runs into the kitchen. Now I know she has addictions like a cat does with a string. She has to chase the dogs along the fence when I'm outside no matter how hard I try to train her not to. She also still chases squirrels (God bless her) dachshunds love to Chase. I think I've wrote enough for now even though I have so much to ask. So reminder the question I have for you today is if her front legs were spread apart more than they should what muscle could possibly be injured? Should I be keeping her in the laundry room restricted of normal activities to help this healing process? Of course letting her out for potty breaks. Thank you for everything you do.😊👍💜 oh yeah one more thing, I'm able to pull her whole arm backwards towards her rear as she's lying down and if I were to try to stretch the arm forward towards her head she pulls back

We adopted a senior 🐶 plott hound 11. She was the best match for my senior golden this past November. This video really helped me identify what was wrong with her. I knew it was more than hip displaecia, because of how upset she would get about a few areas in her back. She was crated at the shelter around 7 years; which had health impacts but she is just as spunky as can be. Joint support has helped tremendously. Our vet gave her anti-inflammatory Rx, but we only use it very sparingly because I don’t want it to impact her internal health (liver and kidneys) which is good. We also gated the stairs, so she doesn’t climb them more than to go to bed. We lift her also as needed. I am looking forward to watching some of your other natural remedies videos. Quality of life is of paramount importance and you definitely have some 👍 tips.

Been watching your videos since my boy was a wee lad, he's now a senior and for the first time I have found him struggling to stand or walk at some points. He has stopped jumping up on to surfaces he used to leap at no problem, and drags his back legs (and gets tired more) on walks... Tonight I had to literally slide him downstairs on his bed so I could get him on the same floor as to door out to potty, not knowing what was wrong, in a panic... Thank you for your videos on how to help him, first place I went to for advice when I realized the signs were adding up to arthritis, hip dysplasia or some such. With these tips, I can better source what COULD be wrong and help ease his discomfort, while we wait for the appointment with the vet to do an exam. Gods all bless you, so glad I subbed to you all those years ago now! My boy Bran (like the muffins and Game of Thrones character... should have thought that name through better) and I both thank you.

Thank you for the taking the time to differentiate the three problems. My GS woke up one morning a few days ago and was not able to move both hind legs , she is happy and is eating and is able to sit up , I use a sling to walk her. This is the most heart breaking thing to see. I did order 95% Curcumin which has flaxseed salmon oil and a few other things you mentioned would help. All I can say I hope and pray a cure is found for these innocent creatures. I noticed that this condition worsened when I gave her carprofen., which I have now stopped

Thank you for the informative videos, truly exceptional. My 11yr old dog floats his hind leg, visibly limps and has trouble with stairs (even one). Vet said it was arthritis of the spine, hips were good (xrayed). Gave us pain killers and told us to come back every 6mths for bloodwork. Does this diagnosis sound accurate as he is getting progressively worse? I am going to try some of your more natural remedies but am thinking it may be degenerative myelopathy.

I reduced her activity and already give her turmeric though now that I've seen your pain management video, it looks like I need to be combining turmeric with another herb (forgot the name) to be most effective. He's able to walk, and still enjoys walking in the dog park in our complex. Could the areas that he doesn't want to be touched nerve damage, cancer? Your advice for castor oil when he swolled a plastic bag, saved us from putting him down. We went to 2 vets, they wanted to operate, $$$$. Last vet was Tennessee college for vet care. Hi! I'm knew to your channel and so excited to find you!! My babies are a Male & female shih tzu (8yrs old). My Male first developed a really bad almost fishy smell in his mouth which I had made a vet appt for cause I was really worried. However, now somehow it's gotten so much better and almost back to doggy breath so I'm thinking maybe he had food stuck in his gums somewhere I could reach abd the dental stkcks helped it out(?). But if you could gift tips.on what those harsh stinky breaths, would be great. Nevertheless, my main concern now is in grooming Milo(male), I found a soft growth (just looks puffy and some redness & even a little darker brown stain over) on his right knee. It looks like when a person bumps pretty hard against something and has a bruised lump. I haven't noticed him in any pain, but notoces it got a bit larger than when I groomed 2wks ago and when I did tried the massages you recommended, he wouldn't let me extend that leg almost at all. Omg I am so worried... if that's cancer or advanced arthritis I overlooked and my baby is in pain!😢 😭 I am of course taking him to vet for xrays (waitingcuz they were booked!). So if you read this and can give me any idea of why this can possibly be, I'd appreciate. Thank you!

Hi- the bad breath may be excess dental tartar, or anal glands. As for the lump, best to get it checked

Hi Dr Jones! Thanks so much for your video! My dog is starting to have some problems with her legs too. She's 12, and she's starting to put her legs behind than usual when she's standing, starting to scuff her paws on the floor, to letting her legs fall when someone's interacting close to her. Do you think it can be some of these diseases? Anyway, I'm calling the veterinarian tomorrow for a more decisive diagnose, but I would like to have some ideas. It's hard to know if she's in pain. Thank you!

Thank you doctor. This year my dog was diagnosed with Cushings. And around the same time showed muscle atrophy in his back legs. He quickly lost ability to get up on his own. I have to pick his hind end up and be sure his feet are flat. It's very stressful for both he and I. Now he is refusing to eat about 90% of the time. It's heart breaking. He isn't showing signed of pain, but I'm not sure really what signs I should look for. If you haven't done a program on signs of pain, it would be a good one to do. Many thanks.

Thank you for this video. What about nerve twitching (fasciculation) in all 4 limbs and muscle atrophe along with going paralyzed in the back legs and then slowly going paralyzed in the front too? My dog had this happen but made a seemingly full recovery with a round of Prednisone with no issues for 7 months with no medication, then it suddenly started again with the back legs and now moving to his front legs again. He has responsiveness but no strength or control left. Any advise or opinion would greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you for this. I did have my greyhound examined and they did a few of these tests. Not the reflex one, I’ll try it. Knuckling he is slow but will place his foot. I’ll also try pinching his toes. I do believe he had lunbosacral stenosis and I am thinking he should have a steroid injection in his spine (epidural). Would you agree? I don’t know how else to help him. He doesn’t seem to be in pain but is wobbly, does drag one of his toes sometimes, kinda stumbles his back feet. He also hangs his head way down when he stands and kind of draws one of his back feet in. I give him turmeric, coconut oil, fish oil, (calcium, vit c & B complex, sodium bicarbonate for kidneys) everyday. Along with coenzyme Q10 and a natural kidney supplement.

Wow you did more in this video than my vet did with my dog and I paid her 100. It’s heartbreaking for me. My dog seems to look like he’s loosing his muscles or something in his back legs. He goes on walks ok but can’t seem to climb anymore like lift himself to my car window so he can stick his head out which is his favorite thing to do. The doc has him on prednisone and pain meds. I’m not sure what to do. He seems to lost his appetite . Any advice ? Thank you

Thank you for making this and all of your videos! They're wonderful and have helped me keep my fur babies healthy and cared for. My 7 year old German shepherd, Havoc, just began dragging his rear, left foot the other day. He first began limping and walking / running slower last September prior to the now dragging foot. I immediately took him to the vet for an examination and they did one x-ray, but he suggested I get him a costly MRI to diagnose & confirm what exactly is going on. I have been monitoring him and giving him flax seed oil, gaba pentin & some tramadol when he is showing signs of pain until i can get a better diagnosis. I don't think it is neurological (due to tapping his knee), so does that rule out degenerative myelopathy ?

@@poolahpot I did not get a definitive one. However, I believe he has a prolapsed or pinched nerve in his spine. He was genetically tested for degenerative myelopathy. They found that he does carry the gene for DM, but it isn't being expressed.

Thank you for your channel. Pain in animals, I had a dog that developed arthritis early on in her life, I gave her Arnica, it was so amazing, the vet wanted to put her on steroids, which I did not like the sound of. But the Arnica worked fantasticly, she had to have it for the rest of her life, but it gave her quality of life.

Thank you so much for that information. We will have to buy Arnica whole herb capsules. I was trying to figure out what to do. Kenny is on the really harsh medication from a local vet right now and I read that it has horrific side effects and not making their quality of life much better. Pharma drugs = using an atomic bomb to get rid of lice.

I found the drops worked really well, she was on two tsps towards the end of her life, steroids reduce their lifespan and do other nasty things to them, I hope this works well for Kenny,

PINK CHAMPAGNE Thank you so much Pink. Do you think the whole herb capsules might work as well? How many of those would be required? I heard that Arnica is also a poisonous plant and can be harmful in too high of a dosis. But the overall reviews on Arnica are very good.
@alizaday
@alizaday 7 жыл бұрын
No its not poisonous, not like they supply it in a liquid, My dog was 18kg and started at a quarter tsp, It is quite safe, I do not know about the capsules.

Thank you so much Pink. I just researched Arnica. It gets great reviews from all kinds of people including Dr. Andrew Weil. I looked for it in capsule dried herb form but they don't sell it anywhere. It is only available in homeopathic and highly diluted form in liquid or sugar tablets. What is the company you got it from? Does it contain alcohol? I will get it for Kenny. My husband is a bit quick with giving him the hard stuff from the vet. He is on it currently but it seems to only last as long as regular pain tablets last which is a few hours only. This is all so difficult I can't describe it in words. I love Kenny more than anything in the entire infinite universe and I live in worries and eternal sadness.

This is an old video but the trick with coffee is not to rely on it in the morning. If your goal is no more than one or two cups a day, then don't drink it until by the time your first or second dose expires, you can crash comfortably at home. When you start drinking it in the morning to wake up, you're in trouble for the rest of the day because the crash isn't worth the minimal jump start.

Thank you for your videos. My dog is a pit or pit mix, she’s a rescue so it’s unknown... I’ve had her since she was about 1... she’s coming up on 12 and this rear leg issue just started out of the blue. It seems like it’s hard for her to get up the past few days (I lifted her), and going up stairs is sometimes too difficult. She has just been laying down and doing nothing. Not really drinking or eating - except for treats. I’m not sure what to do. I’m headed to get some Aleve and hopefully that helps her. It’s breaking my heart though. I don’t know what to do.

Hi- don't give Aleve to your dog. Best to get a vet exam, although a safer NSAID tp start with is Aspirin at 325mg/40lbs twice daily.
